Aurélie A.—‘Yesterday, a Part of My Love for France Left Me’:
This account of the recent violence against a synagogue in Paris, translated from the French, appeared on July 14 on the website of the Collectif Haverim. It was signed by Aurélie A., who identifies herself as a member of the Synagogue of La Roquette, which was besieged by a violent mob of between 200 and 300 people that celebrated Bastille Day by chanting violent, racist slogans, waving the banners of Hezbollah and Hamas, and attempting to storm the synagogue in what appears to have been an attempt at a new kind of communal terror against French Jews, who have been routinely targeted over the past decade by public insults, attacks, and beatings as well as a few gruesome murders.
Luckily for those inside, the young men of the community fought back, drove off the attackers, and then escorted those inside the synagogue to safety, with the assistance of the police. While there has been an attempt on social media sites to portray the counter-attackers as having initiated the violence against peaceful demonstrators who were only expressing their hope that Palestine will one day be free, there is no support for such a chronology in first-hand accounts of the demonstrations or in reports from the police. Such insinuations also beg the question of what a large number of anti-Israeli demonstrators shouting anti-Israel and anti-Semitic slogans were doing outside a synagogue.

Those “protestors” are ignorant and dangerous. They are being led to do something that Yahweh abhors—trying to prevent Him from fulfilling His promises concerning the Land of Israel and the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob/Israel. If they knew where they were being led to and who they were being led by, they might have a change of heart, but I doubt it.
I’m reminded of Luke 16: 19-31:
19 “Now there was a rich man, and he habitually dressed in purple and fine linen, joyously living in splendor every day. 20 And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores, 21 and longing to be fed with the crumbs which were falling from the rich man’s table; besides, even the dogs were coming and licking his sores. 22 Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried out and said,
‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’
25 But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great chasm fixed, so that those who wish to come over from here to you will not be able, and that none may cross over from there to us.’

29 But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’

Do you know who was telling this story? It was the Messiah. We all know, or I hope we all know, that Yahweh is love, but He is also justice. There is a payday, and like it or not, payday is coming.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach: Israel is Being Crucified by Unchallenged Lies— I recently received an email from a reporter asking me to comment on questions of the “when did you stop beating your wife” variety. I receive these near daily from anti-Israel and anti-Semitic publications who accuse me of everything from supporting genocide against Palestinians, to lending my name to African regimes that slaughter their people (they’re referring to my friend President Paul Kagame who actually stopped the genocide in Rwanda in 1994), to abandoning Michael Jackson. But this one came from a Jewish publication that included these gems: Do I disappear for days, sometimes weeks, into a room where I cry on the floor and then work for 23 hours a day? Did I turn my Chabad house in Oxford into a vehicle for self-promotion and self-advancement and basically become an impresario by using the prestige of Oxford to attract celebrity speakers?
The Times-UK Editorial: Hamas’ Handiwork—When Israel ended its occupation and removed its settlements in Gaza in 2005, the territory might have become the focus of an emerging Palestinian state. Instead, it has been a base for rocket attacks against Israeli towns across the border. Having lost patience, Israel launched a military offensive on Gaza a fortnight ago. Israel has not only the right but the obligation to protect its civilians from remorseless rocket attacks. Hamas has been the instrument of that terror. The deaths of Palestinians, many of them children, are the direct and predictable outcome of Hamas’ tactics and its use of civilians as, in effect, human shields. Israel has a just cause. Hamas has a purely destructive one and has disastrously urged Palestinian civilians to stay put. Far from preventing militants from firing rockets into Israeli towns, Hamas has enthusiastically joined in. Rejecting proposals for cease-fires, it continues to target anywhere in Israel that is within reach. Critics of Israel point to the relative lack of Israeli casualties compared with Palestinian ones. That is not a sign that Israel is using disproportionate force, however. It is a reflection of the effectiveness of Israel’s missile defense system.
Sayeh Hassan: Iran’s Fingerprints All Over Hamas-Israel Conflict—Many of the more than 1,000 missiles fired at Israelis in the past month were manufactured in Iran, transferred by Iran or built in Gaza with Iranian technology. This includes the Iranian-built Fajr 5 and the made-in-Gaza M-75, both of which have a range of 75 km. In 2012, Iran openly admitted to having given Hamas the technology to manufacture the M-75. These weapons have allowed Hamas to attack Israel’s two largest cities: Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. The longer-range M-302, which enabled Hamas to hit cities in northern Israel, was imported from Syria via Iran. Many Hamas operatives were trained in Iran. Former commander of British forces in Afghanistan Col. Richard Kemp told AFP: “Hamas were very badly damaged by the Israeli Defense Forces back in 2012, but since that time they have been re-equipped significantly by Iran and also by weapons from Syria.”
Noah Pollak: All the News Hamas Sees Fit to Print—The New York Times appears to be complying with a Hamas demand that the only pictures from Gaza are of civilians and never of fighters. The most influential news organization in the world is manufacturing an utterly false portrait of the battle – precisely the portrait that Hamas finds most helpful: embattled, victimized Gaza civilians under attack by a cruel Israeli military. Nearly every picture from Israel depicts tanks, soldiers, or attack helicopters. And every picture of Gaza depicts either bloodied civilians, destroyed buildings, overflowing hospitals, or other images of civilian anguish. It is as one-sided and misleading a depiction of the Gaza battle as one can imagine. There are no images of Israelis under rocket attack, no images of grieving Israeli families and damaged Israeli buildings, no images of Hamas fighters or rocket attacks on Israel, no images of the RPGs and machine guns recovered from attempted Hamas tunnel infiltrations into Israel.
Candy Crowley: Secretary of State Kerry to CNN’s Candy Crowley: “There is no trust” with the Russians—Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday: “Israel is under siege by a terrorist organization that has seen fit to dig tunnels and come through those tunnels with handcuffs and tranquilizer drugs, prepared to try to capture Israeli citizens and take them back to hold them hostage. No country could sit by and not take steps to try to deal with people who are sending thousands of rockets your way, literally in the middle of a conversation both with the president and with me. While we were talking to the prime minister, sirens went off, the prime minister of Israel had to interrupt a conversation with the president of the United States, to go to a shelter. People can’t live that way. And Hamas needs to understand. We are supporting the Egyptian initiative for a cease-fire.” “No country, no human being is comfortable with children being killed, with people being killed. But we’re not comfortable with Israeli soldiers being killed either, or with people being rocketed in Israel….The fact is that we’ve asked Israel, and Israel has said we will try to reduce whatever we can with respect to civilian involvement, and civilians have been warned to move well ahead of time. The fact is that Hamas uses civilians as shields, and they fire from a home and draw the fire into the home.”
Mark Steyn: Finally, a Rare Point of Agreement— In recent days, Israel has been hit not only from the Gaza end of the Fatah-Hamas pantomime horse but also from Lebanon and Syria. It’s under attack not merely from a terrorist squat but from two sovereign states, all of whom are clients to one degree or another of a third, Iran. Had not General Sisi overthrown Mohammed Morsi and tossed him in jail, there might have been a fourth country happy to make mischief. Meanwhile, across the Allenby Bridge in Jordan, Israel’s least insane neighbor has seen its population swollen by 25 per cent from Syria refugees, and at its western frontier now borders the new caliphate of jihadist head-hackers. In the Sunni/Shia regional showdown between ISIS and Teheran’s various subsidiaries, the two warring parties agree on little except that dead Jews brighten everyone’s day. Oh, well. The Middle East. It’s all very complicated, isn’t it? Fatah, Hamas, Hizb’Allah, the Muslim Brothers, ISIS, Alawites… Who can keep track? And why worry your pretty little head about it all when the easy and cool thing to do is blame the Jews?

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “Both leaders reiterated their support for Israel’s right to take proportionate action to defend itself from the barrage of rocket attacks from Gaza.”
Udi Dekel and Shlomo Brom: The Second Stage of Operation Protective Edge:A Limited Ground Maneuver— For Operation Protective Edge, a successful ground maneuver in its current format has several advantages: 1) to a large extent, it neutralizes the tunnel threat; 2) it achieves control of an area – albeit limited to a depth of 3 km from the border – which is a card Israel can play in the negotiations over a ceasefire and subsequent settlement; 3) it allows Israel to prepare the area near the border for the period after the ceasefire goes into effect so that it will serve as a security zone; and 4) it enables shortened ranges for operations to penetrate deep into populated urban areas, especially the principal areas for mid and long range missiles launch sites. At the same time, the IDF troops inside Gaza are more vulnerable to explosives-laden tunnels, mines, ambushes, and anti-tank fire, and therefore must assume that Hamas will direct its efforts against IDF troops while it continues the rocket fire, in an attempt to even out the losses.
William Booth: While Israel held its fire, the militant group Hamas did not— But six hours without Israeli bombardment was enough to give ordinary people in Gaza some hope Tuesday that an end to fighting might be near. For Hassan Abu Ali, a retired police officer who used the pause to check in at his family’s home in northern Gaza, it was just enough time “to feed the cat.’’ After more than a week of steady attacks, Israel halted its air attacks at 9 a.m. Tuesday, heeding an Egyptian proposal for a cease-fire. Temporary shelters in Gaza City began to empty. Many of the tens of thousands who evacuated the northern tier of Gaza began to return home.
Ben Cohen: Jews Must Fight Back Against Anti-Semitism— The debate about whether Jews have a future in Europe has once again surfaced, as Israel’s Operation Protective Edge gained momentum in response to Hamas rocket attacks from Gaza. The two issues are connected for a simple reason: on July 13, a large number of pro-Palestinian demonstrators in Paris decided to attack a synagogue in the French capital, thereby demonstrating that these days, aspiring pogromists are more likely to wear a Palestinian keffiyeh than a swastika armband.

Gaza resident: We’re being ‘collectively punished’
SnyderTalk Comment: How ridiculous is that statement? Of course, Gaza residents are being “collectively punished.” They were given the opportunity to elect a government; they elected Hamas—a terrorist organization; Hamas proceeded immediately to pound Israel with mortar and rocket fire, to kidnap Israeli soldiers, and to murder innocent civilians. Israel had to respond militarily. There was no other way to stop the merciless and mindless attacks.
These unprovoked attacks have been taking place since Hamas took control in Gaza in 2005. Operation Protective Edge is the third major military operation since Hamas assumed power. The first two operations ended with ceasefires that precluded Hamas from attacking Israel. Each time Hamas broke its word within a matter of days.
Hamas purposely places its fighters, its weapons, and its ammunition in mosques, schools, hospitals, homes, factories, and other public places—the more public the better from Hamas’ point of view. Israel lets Gazans know in advance where they are going to strike and when they are going to strike before taking any action, and they use precision weapons to minimize collateral damage. Some Gazans choose to stay put anyway. Of course, some of them are going to die because they are putting themselves in harm’s way.
Don’t be persuaded by Hamas’ propaganda. Western journalists are well-known for taking the bait. Don’t be like them.

SnyderTalk Comment: Abimelech knew what he had to do and he did it. Many don’t and they suffer the consequences. For example, what do you think this verse means: “I, even I, and Yahweh and there is no savior besides Me.” (Isaiah 43: 11) Read His Name is Yahweh. Preachers should pay attention to Yahweh’s Name. Why don’t they?
