December 26, 2019 SnyderTalk—Bible Thumpers Make Me Really Angry and Mark Galli is a Bible Thumper

“My holy Name I will make known in the midst of My people Israel.  I will not let My holy Name be profaned anymore, and the Gentiles will know that I am Yahweh, the Holy One in Israel.”

Bible Thumpers Make Me Really Angry and Mark Galli is a Bible Thumper

What is a Bible Thumper?

Bible Thumpers are people who read the Bible looking for all the dos and the don’ts.  They pay particular attention to the don’ts.  They see themselves as freelance vigilantes on a mission from the Almighty.  They are prosecutors, judges, and juries at the same time.

Sometimes, I call them Sister Bertha-better-than-yous, but I think Bible Thumpers is better, because they use the Bible like a billy club to beat up believers.  People who are strong in the faith can withstand their abuse, but young and inexperienced believers are easy prey.

I’ll be more kind than a human being should be and say that Bible Thumpers are ignorant.  Either they never read the Messiah’s admonition, or they read it and didn’t understand it:

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7: 1-5)

Not knowing is not a good excuse.  Misunderstanding points to intellectual laziness.  Knowing and rejecting is open rebellion.

“Has Yahweh as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of Yahweh? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and insubordination is as iniquity and idolatry.” (1 Samuel 15: 22-23)

Bible Thumping is a stage of development that some Christians go through.  Some people are intoxicated by the feel of superiority that Bible Thumping elicits, and they never advance beyond that stage.  Thus, they do a lot of damage over a long period of time.  They are stuck in a filthy rut.

Examples of Bible Thumping

When our daughters were very young, My Little Pony was a must-have toy for little girls.  Melanie and Rebekah wanted one, so Katie and I brought a couple for them.  They picked them out.  One of them was a unicorn My Little Pony.

One day, Melanie and Rebekah were playing with their toys at my mother’s and father’s house in Athens, Georgia, and a Bible Thumper came into the room where they were playing.  She boldly declared that unicorns were from Satan.  Having told our 7-year-old and 3-year-old daughters that they were playing with toys from the devil, she proudly left the room with her head held high.  She had done her duty.

That’s why I call Bible Thumpers “Sister Bertha-better-than-yous”.  They think they are a cut above mere mortals.  In their minds, they are one rung below Yahweh on the organization chart.  They must think their role is to judge the world in advance of His return.

You would think that a mother would have enough common sense to keep her mouth shut around young children, but this woman didn’t.  If she had a problem with the toy, she should have told Katie or me, but she didn’t.  She told our daughters and left us with a problem to solve.

That’s exactly what we did.  We told our daughters that she had problems and that she could not or would not work them out.  Maybe she didn’t like Katie and/or me, and she felt more secure attacking our daughters than us.  At the end of our explanation, we told our girls that their toys were fine.  They were not from Satan.

Anyone raised in a Christian church has seen lots of Bible Thumpers.  They come in all shapes and sizes.  Some churches are pastored by Bible Thumpers.  I have watched a televangelist savage people who drink alcohol.  For the better part of an hour, he pranced around the stage telling his congregation and the television audience that “Thou shalt not drink alcohol” is the 11th Commandment that Yahweh forgot to mention on Mt. Sinai when He gave Moses the Ten Commandments.  On another occasion, I saw him present his version of eschatology in such great detail and with such “authority” that I felt compelled to tell Katie that he must be on the planning committee for the Second Coming.

The man I’m talking about isn’t just overweight.  He’s grossly obese.  The stage he prances on must be made with heavy-duty lumber to support his weight.  I’m not judging him.  I’m just presenting a fact.  I guess he never noticed that the Bible talks about drunkenness and gluttony exactly the same way.  Both of them are sinful.  Anyone with decent vision can tell instantly that he’s a glutton.  I’ve known people who can drink a little too much, and you can’t tell that they have had a drop.

Gluttons should think long and hard before they condemn anyone for drinking alcohol.

Bible Thumpers make me angry.  The woman who told my daughters that their toys were from Satan is a preacher’s wife.  She crossed the line, and she did it with something like “authority”.  After all, she is a preacher’s wife.  The obese televangelist did the same thing.  Both of them suffer from the same problem.

Nobody’s Perfect

On Christmas Eve, I posted a SnyderTalk editorial titled “Pelosi and Fairness? What fairness?”.  Below is an excerpt from that editorial:

A few days ago, Christianity Today published an editorial in which it called for President Trump’s removal from office.  The editorial was written by Mark Galli the magazine’s editor-in-chief.  This is the gist of what Galli said:

“That he should be removed, we believe, is not a matter of partisan loyalties but loyalty to the Creator of the Ten Commandments.”

If Galli were paying attention, he would have observed that the people giving him attention are Yahweh haters. They are also Trump haters.  That’s a clue that escaped Galli.  It’s like falling into a cesspool and not noticing the smell enveloping you when you crawl out.

Skunks don’t know they stink.

When Donald Trump first announced that he was running for president, I didn’t think he had a chance to win the GOP nomination much less the presidency.  It took a few weeks and a lot of prayer for Yahweh to show me what He was up to.

Long before the GOP nominating convention, Yahweh make clear to me that He was putting Donald Trump in office to clean up Washington and to get our nation back on the right path.  Yahweh showed me that Donald Trump would become the man He wanted him to be while he was in office, not before he was elected.  That’s exactly what has happened.

Regular SnyderTalk readers will recall that I was talking about all of this while the thought of Donald Trump winning the GOP nomination was considered a joke.  I’m not the only person that Yahweh showed the truth.  There were millions of us.  Galli wasn’t one of them.

The fact that millions of strong believers got the message and that Galli didn’t is another clue.

I’m not a newbie in the faith.  I’ve met a lot of people like Galli.  They are self-righteous Christians.  I call them Sister Bertha-better-than-yous.  They know the dos and don’ts in the Bible, but they don’t understand Yahweh.  It’s possible they don’t know Him.

People like Galli use the Bible like a club.  They relish the opportunity to hit people over the head with it as often as they can, and they do it with sanctimonious glee.  It makes them feel superior.  That’s why I call people like Galli Sister Bertha-better-than-you.

If Galli were a Bible scholar, he would know that David was a philanderer and a murderer, but Yahweh called David a man after His own heart.  David isn’t the only imperfect person that Yahweh used in powerful ways.  In fact, every person Yahweh chooses to use is imperfect.  Galli should read the Bible more carefully.

Problem is, people like Galli think they know everything there is to know.  He believes he’s better than you and me and President Trump.  He thinks that  by virtue of his “righteousness” he’s in a unique position to judge the president.

I wish Galli had taken the time to check his opinions out with Yahweh before he sought the limelight that comes to so-called “Christians” who get into bed Yahweh haters.  The fact that he didn’t is another clue.

I’m not the Judge.  Yahweh is, but I know this: Getting into bed with Yahweh’s enemies is dangerous.  Galli should consider doing some serious praying before he runs his mouth anymore about President Trump.  Along the way, he needs to consider repenting.

I wish President Trump was a perfect man.  He’s not, but Yahweh chose him and he is doing remarkable things.  Galli hasn’t noticed.  That’s the final clue.

Mark Galli is a Full-Fledged Bible Thumper

Galli made a serious mistake by abusing his position to take a swipe at President Trump. He did it for a reason.  What was his justification?

I can’t get inside Galli’s head and see what his problems are, but I can say this: Yahweh put Donald Trump in his position to do exactly what he is doing.  I know that for sure.

It’s not uncommon for people who believe they aren’t getting the attention they think they deserve to say and do things to attract attention.  Typically, they suffer from an inferiority complex.

Galli’s call for President Trump’s removal from office juxtaposed with his position as Editor-in-chief of Christianity Today was tailor-made to attract the attention of the establishment media.  He knew that, so it’s easy to conclude that that’s exactly what he wanted.

Bible Trumpers crave attention.  Judging others is a way to attract attention.  I don’t want to be preachy here, so I’ll simply repeat what the Messiah said:

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and behold, the log is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” (Matthew 7: 1-5)

People who succumb to temptation and attack others for doing what Yahweh sent them to do are in serious trouble with their Maker.  For some of the attackers, it’s a one and done thing.  Yahweh literally takes them out.  I don’t know what Yahweh has in store for Galli, but I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes.  I hope he repents and recants.

Joining Forces with the Enemy is Not a Good Idea

Democrats are depraved degenerates.  That’s a statement of fact.  It’s like calling a grossly overweight person a glutton.  It’s obvious to anyone who knows what Democrats stand for and what they champion.  Abortion on demand without restraint, infanticide, same-sex marriage, drag queens teaching our kids in public libraries, you name it.  If it’s morally wrong, Democrats support it.

Democrats wanted Hillary Clinton to be president.  Donald Trump upset their applecart, and they hate him for it.  Before he announced that he was running for president, Democrats loved Trump.  They bowed and scraped when they came to him begging for money.  When Trump defeated Hillary, he became a pariah in their eyes.  They are driven by hate.  They hate anyone who stands in their way.  President Trump is preventing them from doing what they want to do.

Establishment Republicans hate Donald Trump, too.  They hate him because he isn’t doing things the way they would have done things.  Never mind the fact that establishment Republicans have a very poor track record, and never mind the fact that we elected Trump because establishment Republicans are as useless as tits on a bull.  They have an ax to grind, and they will grind it until they have a change of heart.  For many of them, maybe most of them, that day may never come.

President Trump isn’t doing things the usual way, and his results have not been the usual results.  He has had one impossible success after another for almost 3 years.  The economy is booming.  Manufacturing jobs are coming back to America.  Black, Hispanic, Asian, and women’s unemployment are at all-time lows.  Wages are going up.  Disastrous trade deals have been renegotiated.  At long last, Christians and Jews who have been and are being attacked have a friend in the White House.  Stated simply, Yahweh is blessing our nation because Donald Trump is doing what Yahweh wants him to do.

Mark Galli claims to be a Christian, but he is attacking President Trump for doing the job that Yahweh gave him.  I don’t know what Yahweh has in store for Galli, but I hope Christianity Today suffers greatly until he is fired.  Maybe he will wise up, repent, and recant.

If Galli loses his job, Yahweh haters and Trump haters will see him a martyr.  So be it.  Maybe Galli can get a gig on CNN.

SnyderTalk Comment:

I don’t know what Mark Galli is reading, but I wish he would read SnyderTalk.  He should begin with this editorial: “The American People Should Be Furious”.  In it, I list a number of other editorials I have written in which I analyze the data.

Galli entered into an entirely political process and engaged in entirely political activity.  President Trump didn’t do the things that Galli accused him of doing.  Galli has bought the “liberal progressive” narrative hook, line, and sinker, and he’s presenting that narrative as truth.

I will say this for Galli.  He’s a sanctimonious Bible Thumper.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
