Kevin Johnson—US to banks: ‘No such thing as too big to jail’:

Foreshadowing possible criminal charges against banking giants Credit Suisse and BNP Paribas, Attorney General Eric Holder offered an ominous warning Monday, saying, “There is no such thing as too big to jail.”

“Some have used that phrase to describe the theory that certain financial institutions, even if they engage in criminal misconduct, should be considered immune from prosecution due to their sheer size and their influence on the economy,” Holder said during a weekly video message posted on the Justice Department website.

“That view is mistaken. And it is a view that has been rejected by the Department of Justice. To be clear: No individual or company, no matter how large or how profitable, is above the law. When the Department of Justice conducts investigations, we will always follow the law and the facts wherever they lead.”

SnyderTalk Comment: SnyderTalk memo to Holder and Obama—RE Sending violators of the law to jail: There should be no such thing as too big to jail for politicians, either.  Among those who should be under investigation right now for an array of felonies are Holder, Obama, Rice, Clinton (Hillary and Bill), Sebelius, and a host of others both Republicans and Democrats.  The fact that politicians in this country get away with murder, maybe just figuratively, is a crime in and of itself.

Raymond Ibrahim: Christians ‘Crucified Again’ for Refusing Islam— To the awe of its readership, a recent Daily Mail article reports that the “jihadist Islamic State of Iraq and Levant [ISIL],” which is currently entrenched in Raqqa, Syria, “publicly crucified two Syrian rebels in northeastern Syria in revenge for a grenade attack on members of their group.” While the Daily Mail is to be commended for exposing these barbaric acts—along with posting photos of the crucified—it nonetheless minimized their significance, in two important ways: 1) by repeatedly saying things like “even al-Qaeda is distancing itself from ISIL,” and so implying that the act of crucifixion is some wild aberration that even the poster-child of jihadi terror, al-Qaeda, wants nothing to do with it; and 2) ignoring the much “sexier” story that Christians in Syria are also being crucified simply for refusing to embrace Islam (as opposed to the rather mundane but politically more correct story of Islamic jihadis crucifying each other in the context of vendetta killings).

Melissa Pamer: Students Asked To Debate Whether The Holocaust Actually Happened—The Rialto school district planned to revise an eighth-grade assignment that raised red flags by asking students to consider arguments about whether the Holocaust — the systematic killing by the Nazis of some 6 million Jews and millions of others — was not an “actual event” but instead a “propaganda tool that was used for political and monetary gain.” In a statement released Monday, a spokeswoman for the Rialto Unified School District said an academic team was meeting to revise the assignment.

Joseph Klein: Time for Truth & Consequences on the Benghazi Cover Up— As Hillary Clinton contemplates running for president in 2016, does she have dreams conjuring up the Benghazi tragedy and cover-up and repeating in her sleep, “What difference does it make?”  Even Lady Macbeth had her moment of guilt when, imagining a spot of the murdered Scottish king’s blood on her hand, she exclaimed: “Out, damned spot!” Hillary just cannot get rid of the Benghazi stain on her record. Every time she thinks it is safe to go back into the water and leave Benghazi behind, another bit of the truth is revealed that calls into question the honesty of the Obama administration, including its former Secretary of State, about what happened before, during, and after the September 11, 2012 jihadist attack. And every time, we can count on spinmeisters in President Obama’s camp such as White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to say things like Benghazi is old news and that Republicans are engaging in unfounded conspiracy theories.

Ben Cohen: Misplaced Optimism Over Iran— When Hassan Rouhani was elected as Iran’s president in June 2013, you could hear the sighs of relief in Washington, in Brussels, at U.N. Headquarters, and across key European capitals. Finally, we were told, the terrorism-supporting, human rights-abusing, Holocaust-denying Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had left the political stage. Finally, a moderate, rational leader with whom we could conduct business was in power. Finally, there was a real chance of securing an enduring deal to thwart Iran’s dangerous nuclear ambitions.

Jodi Rudoren: Islamic Jihad Gains New Traction in Gaza— Shortly before midnight, seven black-masked young men in camouflage stood in a field of waist-high weeds, Kalashnikov rifles pointed toward the Mediterranean Sea a half-mile away. No Israeli soldier has set foot in Gaza City in five years, but the 25-year-old commander of this band of Al-Quds Brigades — the armed wing of Islamic Jihad — said his troops stand vigil here nightly to “protect the Palestinian people” from any “incursion.” Every few minutes, in what may have been a nightly ritual or an effort to broadcast to the world their readiness to fight, the radio on the commander’s shoulder crackled with warnings: drones in the east, F-16s overhead, gunboat movement at sea.

Tova Dvorin: ‘It is Impossible to Have a Bi-National State’— Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu (Likud) addressed the fundamental proposal to declare Israel a Jewish state on Sunday, at the start of his weekly Cabinet meeting. Netanyahu began by defining, in his view, the basic nature of the State of Israel.  “The State of Israel is Jewish and democratic,” he began. “Our Basic Laws give us full expression of the democratic side of our country; we do this by giving full and equal rights to every Israeli citizen.”

Seth Lipsky: Unlike Obama, Rand Paul and Congress have Israel’s back— Senator Rand Paul’s “Stand With Israel Act” reminds me of a pickle I got myself into after the Six Day War. I’d reached Israel three weeks after the fighting and an escort had taken me onto the liberated Golan Heights. When we stopped near a burned-out tank, I hopped out of our jeep and dashed over to take a look, until I realized that people were shouting at me to stop. Your tyro of a correspondent had walked into a minefield. So has Senator Paul with his bill to block foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority. He’s sallied onto what I’ve taken to calling the most dangerous ground in the Middle East. It’s not Judea, Samaria, Gaza, or the Golan. Rather it’s the ground between the White House and the United States Congress. They are battling for supremacy in foreign affairs, and this is territory where one really wants to watch one’s step.

David Horsey: Putin’s Ukraine incursion brings back the bad old bear— Like Uncle Sam, the Republican elephant and the Democratic donkey, the Russian bear was a stock character in decades of political cartoons drawn by pretty much every caricaturist in the business, including me. The dissertation I wrote for my master’s degree in international relations was titled “Visions of the Bear” and surveyed British and American political cartoons to track Western perceptions of the Soviets during the Cold War. In those cartoons, bears abounded. The animal seemed a perfect personification of the USSR — big, brutish, shambling and dangerous. One day not long after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, I drew a cartoon that retired the bear as the symbol of the new Russia in my commentary. The beast had become toothless and it was time to find a new way to portray a country that seemed profoundly changed. I hoped the beast was gone forever.

John Tierney: Which States Are Givers And Which Are Takers?— Maps showing regional differences among Americans are all the rage these days, such as this depiction of the contours of baseball fandom, or this one of the beers we’re alleged to favor, or this showing the places in America where none of us lives, or this creative video/map showing where Americans use different words for common things such as soda. For my money, one of the more interesting maps appearing recently came from the personal-finance website Wallet Hub. Analysts there set out to determine how states compare in terms of their reliance on federal funding. The states deemed “most dependent” by the analysis are bright red on the map, those “least dependent” are bright green. You can move your cursor around on the map to see how each state ranks. (There were some ties.)

Luke Dormehl: Is Facial Recognition Technology Taking Away Your Identity?— This summer, Facebook will present a paper at a computer vision conference revealing how it has created a tool almost as accurate as the human brain when it comes to saying whether two photographs show the same person – regardless of changes in lighting and camera angles. A human being will get the answer correct 97.53% of the time; Facebook’s new technology scores an impressive 97.25%. “We closely approach human performance,” says Yaniv Taigman, a member of its AI team. Since the ability to recognise faces has long been a benchmark for artificial intelligence, developments such as Facebook’s “DeepFace” technology (yes, that’s what it called it) raise big questions about the power of today’s facial recognition tools and what these mean for the future.

SnyderTalk Comment: The Obama administration is putting our nation’s economy at risk for nothing and reducing our standard of living in the process:

  1. There is no global warming.
  2. Even if there were global warming, we didn’t cause it and couldn’t stop it.
  3. The globe has been cooling since 1998.
  4. Man-made CO2 emissions have increased dramatically since 1998 while the globe has cooled.
  5. This is a power grab on the part of the Obama administration, and it’s a way to funnel money to Obama’s friends.
  6. If you want to see a lot of supporting data, read the novel Stand!  It presents the facts along with an exciting story.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 6: 5-8

5 Then Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 Yahweh was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 Yahweh said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor (in Hebrew it’s “chen” or “grace”) in the eyes of Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

Other Books by Neil Snyder

  • Stand! is a suspense novel that exposes the lies, corruption, and greed underlying the theory that man-made CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming.  Professor Wes Carlyle and Karen Sterling, his research collaborator, carefully scan the audience for their would-be attacker—a member of the enviro-gestapo who has been following them for days.  Wes spots his man in the back of the room leaning against the wall.  Suddenly, another man in the audience steps forward and moves toward Karen at a menacing pace.  With a vicious stroke, he swings a billy club at her head.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • What Will You Do with the Rest of Your Life? deals with a question that every Christian has to consider: what should I do with my life?  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • Falsely Accused is a true story about a young woman who was accused of committing a double homicide.  It’s about a travesty of justice, and it reveals Yahweh intervening in the life of a believer to rescue her from danger in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.  Everyone will enjoy the book, but young people in particular need to read it because the mistakes made that led to the problem could have been avoided.  They were the kinds of mistakes that young people are prone to make.  As they say, forewarned is forearmed.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
