Elad Benari—Former Canadian Minister ‘Shocked’ by Visit to Temple Mount:

Stockwell Day, a former Canadian minister who visited the Temple Mount, was shocked to see the discrimination towards Jews.

A former Canadian minister who visited the Temple Mount on Sunday was shocked to learn of the discrimination shown by Israeli police officers towards Jews.

Stockwell Day, who served as Canada’s Minister of Public Safety between 2006 and 2008, visited the Temple Mount following a coincidental meeting with a resident of Jerusalem, Yosef Rabin, who regularly visits the Temple Mount compound.

Rabin, who spoke to Arutz Sheva on Monday, said that his meeting with Day took place over Shabbat, when he visited friends for a Shabbat meal also attended by Day.

During the meal, Rabin said, he told the former Canadian minister about the situation on the Temple Mount where police, in an attempt to appease the Muslim Waqf which was left in charge of the compound after the 1967 Six Day War,  ban Jews from praying or performing any other form of worship. Police sometimes close the Mount to Jews altogether in response to Muslim riots – for days or weeks at a time – despite evidence that such violence is usually planned in advance for the specific purpose of forcing Jews out.

“When I told Day about the situation on the Temple Mount, it pegged his interest and he asked me to arrange a visit for him,” said Rabin.

Dan Margalit: Peres might inflict harm on Israel— There is no point in debating fringe leftists who are eager to undermine Israel’s claims. Retaining the Jordan Valley? Developing the Iron Dome? Insisting Israel be recognized as a Jewish state? No, no, and no. (As for the Iron Dome, that debate has somewhat subsided.) They have focused their efforts on countering Israel’s opening gambits in the peace talks with the Palestinians. Their immediate goal is to erode Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s insistence on having the Palestinians accept Israel as a Jewish state.

Joel Greenberg: Kerry Is Going Through a Learning Process—Israeli officials “don’t understand why Secretary Kerry is putting this kind of focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict when both sides could have told him that there was little chance for a breakthrough, and when the region around us is on fire,” said Jonathan Spyer, a senior research fellow at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya. Spyer said Israeli officials were asking themselves why Kerry was “investing all this time, exerting pressure, and why Israel is forced to release murderers of Israelis in pursuit of a process which seems quite obviously doomed to failure….John Kerry is going through a learning process the rest of us learned 10 years ago, and Israel is required to pay a heavy price,” Spyer added.

Douglas Murray: Middle East Peace Process: America’s Wishful Thinkers— Remember how everyone laughed when U.S. President George W. Bush appeared unable to remember the ending of that saying: “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” Well nobody seems to be laughing, or even noticing, that President Bush’s successor is allowing America’s enemies to fool him repeatedly — and that he is showing no apparent shame at all. Take just two recent events: First, Iran. Over the ever-extending holiday period, while parts of America’s foreign policy bureaucracy were still congratulating themselves over the success of the Geneva talks process, Iran showed not only what it thinks of that process but what it has been showing in plain sight for years.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Refugees Who Insist on the Impossible— The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has a budget problem, and as a result its workers are on strike. As the New York Times reports, that’s bad news for Palestinian refugees in the West Bank who depend on the UN agency for food, services, and employment. But the controversy over the impact of the strike and the refugees’ demands for the Palestinian Authority to step in and pick up where the UN left off doesn’t address the heart of their problem. Instead of arguing over who should take care of them, the Palestinians should be seeking the same resolution that has successfully solved every other refugee problem since the Second World War: resettlement. Instead, they have been allowed to languish in camps to keep the war against Israel alive, doing far more injury to themselves than they have ever done to the Israelis.

Andrew J. Tabler: Avoiding Assad’s Forced Solution to the Syria Crisis—Damascus hopes to change the framework of the Geneva 2 talks from arranging a genuine transition to accepting a forced settlement centered on Assad’s upcoming “reelection” for a third seven-year term (his current term ends on July 7). The mechanism for channeling the Syrian people’s aspirations toward a settlement that ends the war will not be an election under Assad’s rule. Washington and its allies must not indulge Assad’s fantasy that his phony election process can yield a “political solution.”

Roberta P. Seid: Omar Barghouti brings hate and bigotry to UCLA—Omar Barghouti, co-founder of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS), is on the road again with his anti-Israel show and its pack of bigotry and lies. On January 15th, UCLA’s Students for Justice in Palestine [SJP] hosted him at UCLA for his talk, entitled “International Solidarity with Palestine: Towards a Global Intifada.”  An apt title: though he piously insists his movement is non-violent, he banged the drum for more bloodshed against Israeli Jews, for a fight to the finish that would undo the results of the 1948 War and be Zionism’s death knell.  Nothing else would do.

Dexter Van Zile: Who is Abu Naji?— Every year, starting in about November, Palestinian Christians and their allies in North America use the Christmas season as an opportunity to portray Israel as an oppressor nation that offends Christian sensibilities by mercilessly recreating the conditions that made life difficult for the Holy Family. Oftentimes they show pictures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph being denied entrance to the modern city of Bethlehem by Israel’s security barrier. I wrote about this propaganda technique in 2007, calling it the “Bethlehem Formula.” NGO Monitor did a great job showing how anti-Israel Christian groups used the 2013 Christmas season to demonize Israel in a report titled “’Tis the Seaon 2013: How Anti-Israel NGOs Manipulate Christmas.”

Boaz Bismuth: Frustration in Damascus, bombs in Beirut— Syrian President Bashar Assad is winning his war of survival, largely due to help from Hezbollah. Five thousand elite guerillas from the Shiite terrorist organization have trained Assad’s army in urban warfare (in which they have gained years of experience) and have also joined in the fighting, at the cost of 400 killed and at least 1,000 wounded.

Steven Goldberg: Get Ready for Rising Rates— In my view, the 30-year bull market in bonds—which saw yields on ten-year Treasuries fall from a high of 15.8% in September 1981 to a low of 1.4% in July 2012—is history. Rates are likely to rise, albeit gradually and with some interruptions, for years to come. Because prices of most fixed-income investments move in the opposite direction of yields, bond investors are sailing into the wind. What to do? The obvious move is to invest in short-term bond funds. Their bonds come to term quickly so, when rates are rising, investors can frequently reinvest proceeds from maturing bonds in higher-yielding IOUs. The problem is that high-quality short-term bond funds pay virtually zilch. For instance, Vanguard Short-Term Corporate Bond Index ETF (VCSH), an exchange-traded fund, yields all of 1.4%.

Dr. Reuven Berko: The Final Death of Lawrence of Arabia— Peter O’Toole, who was marvelous in “Lawrence of Arabia,” died recently. Many commentators and critics feel that Lawrence’s story and the movie about him influenced the actions of many European statesmen, politicians, and members of Western foreign ministries and security services. However, there is considerable argument as to whether and what, as a matter of historical fact, T. E. Lawrence contributed to the British war effort by collaborating with the Bedouin tribes of the Arabian Peninsula against the Ottoman Turks during the First World War. Not all historians agree to the truth of the glowing reports of his personality, moral stature and personal behavior. Nevertheless, the enigmatic figure of Lawrence, an intelligence officer, became a role model for Western diplomats and statesmen, and he is revered as a master of mediating with the leaders of the Arab world. He seemed secretive and manipulative, with the rare ability and knowledge to exploit Arab ideology to achieve victory and foster the interests of the West, and to build inter-cultural cooperation and coexistence in a way that was both noble and romantic.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Zephaniah 2: 14-15

Flocks will lie down in her midst, all beasts which range in herds; both the pelican and the hedgehog will lodge in the tops of her pillars; birds will sing in the window, desolation will be on the threshold; for He has laid bare the cedar work. This is the exultant city which dwells securely, who says in her heart, “I am, and there is no one besides me.” How she has become a desolation, a resting place for beasts! Everyone who passes by her will hiss and wave his hand in contempt.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
