Michael Dorstewitz—Brits miss Bush; Obama an ‘embarrassing amateur’ in comparison:

Offering a Brit’s view of President Barack Obama and his immediate predecessor, the much-maligned George W. Bush, a Daily Telegraph blog post found Obama an embarrassing, rank amateur on the world stage by comparison.

Published the day before Obama’s confusing “I don’t need Congress’ authorization to invade Syria, but I’m going to wait for it anyway” speech, the Telegraph’s Nile Gardiner noted that prior to the Iraq invasion, Bush amassed one of the largest military coalitions in world history—“roughly 40 countries.”

And what of Obama’s on-again/off-again excursion into Syria? Gardiner wrote:

“As it stands, President Obama’s proposed military coalition on Syria has a grand total of two members – the US and France. And the French, as we know from Iraq, simply can’t be relied on, and have very limited military capability.”

Gardiner then noted that any coalition between France and the United States is more than likely based on socialist political ideology than military objective.

“It is a truly embarrassing state of affairs when Paris, at best a fair weather friend, is your only partner,” Gardiner noted. “John Kerry tried to put a brave face on it at his press conference [Friday], by referring to France ‘as our oldest ally,’ but the fact remains that his administration is looking painfully isolated.”

George W. Bush was an imperfect president to be sure, but he makes Barack Obama look like an “embarrassing amateur”, which is exactly what he is.  We knew that about Obama before we elected him in 2008. After almost five years in office, Obama still refuses to consider the possibility that his worldview is seriously flawed and that he is ill-equipped to handle the job.  Obama’s legacy as president will be forever marred by his dithering, leading from behind, and continual vacationing.  To me, it looks like run-of-the-mill incompetence, and in today’s world, that’s dangerous.

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Barney Breen-Portnoy: The buck stops elsewhere— Like many Israelis, I watched with bated breath on Saturday night as U.S. President Barack Obama approached the lectern in the Rose Garden at the White House. The past week in Israel had the tense feeling of a prewar waiting period, with everyone wondering when the U.S. sword would fall on Syria and if there would be retaliatory missile fire at Israel.

David Horovitz: Obama Unleashes Horror in Jerusalem—The Israeli political and security leadership is privately horrified by President Barack Obama’s 11th-hour turnaround on striking Syria—a decision he took alone, after he had sent his Secretary of State John Kerry to speak out passionately and urgently in favor of military action. It is now fearful that, in the end, domestic politics or global diplomacy will ultimately lead the US to hold its fire altogether.

Jack Kelly: In Syria, no matter who wins, America loses—To intervene militarily in a conflict between bitter enemies of the United States is madness. To intervene in a deliberately ineffective way is madness on steroids. That President Barack Obama, prodded by most in the political class, plans to do precisely this indicates how frivolous they are, how out of touch with reality they’ve become. On one side in the bloody civil war in Syria is the regime of dictator Bashar Assad, Iran’s foremost ally. On the other is a rebel coalition dominated by al Qaida.

Jonathan Spyer: Understanding the Place of WMDs in Assad’s War Strategy—It is a misrepresentation to claim that Assad is “winning” the war against the rebellion. The recent Qusayr and Khaldiyeh battles were about regime consolidation in the 40% of Syrian territory over which it rules. The rebels have been engaged in an offensive from the eastern suburbs of Damascus, of which eastern Ghouta forms a part, since July 24. The rebels were making slow headway into regime-controlled areas of the city. It would make perfect sense for Assad to attempt to drive the rebels out of eastern Ghouta and away from Damascus. The chemical attack appears to have formed part of the opening move of this offensive.

Amos Yadlin and Avner Golov: A U.S. Attack on Syria: Implications for Israel—The most important Israeli interest in the context of an American attack is the unequivocal clarification that there is a high price to pay for the use of nonconventional weapons. From a broader perspective, it is important for Israel that the U.S. reestablish its strategic influence in the Middle East and improve its credibility and deterrence in the region, which have eroded over the past three years. Restoring American deterrent power would strengthen the standing of U.S. allies, including Israel, in the struggle between the region’s moderates and radicals.

Amb. Alan Baker: Frustration and Disgust: International Inaction over Syria—Over one thousand innocent civilians were cruelly murdered in Syria on August 21, 2013. Thousands more were seriously wounded. Faced with all this, one may ask where are the UN Security Council and General Assembly? Where is the European Union? Where is the UN Human Rights Council? Where are the international bodies that are so quick and eager to condemn any and every action by Israel? Where are the BDS activists who appear blind to situations of genuine cruelty and lawlessness in the world?

Herb Keinon: Weak World Response on Syria Boosts Chance of Strong Israeli Action on Iran—Whether or not Israel decides to act against Iran could be determined in large part by how the world acts now against Syria. “Trust us,” the world – led by the U.S. – has urged Israel for years on Iran. “We will deal with Iran, we will not allow them to get nuclear weapons.” Really? One could not blame the Iranians for calculating what action they could expect if they run at full speed to nuclear capability. The British will vote military action down in Parliament, and Obama will bring the matter to Congress for a vote if Congress is in session.

Ron Ben-Yishai: Decision to Delay Strike against Syria Sends Dangerous Message—President Obama blinked. This sends an encouraging message to cruel, unrestrained regimes that possess or don’t possess weapons of mass destruction. The American president’s delay is a message. In the case of Iran, which is developing nuclear weapons and is preparing to achieve nuclear “breakout” capability, such a delay could be fatal from Israel’s standpoint.

Bernard Goldberg: Loose Talk about Red Lines May Give Iran a Green Light—For the mullahs in Iran, the light may have just turned green. When he was running for president in 2012, President Obama drew a red line in the sand and said if the Syrian regime crossed that line, by using chemical weapons on its own people, there would be a price to pay. They’ve done just that several times since the President spoke and so far there has been no price to pay.

Jerusalem Post Editorial: Obama’s Strategy—The West’s reaction on the Syrian front shouldn’t be perceived as a litmus test regarding how we can expect the U.S. and other Western countries to react if and when Iran is on the verge of attaining nuclear weapon capability. A nuclear capability would embolden Tehran to seize control of the Straits of Hormuz and unleash a nuclear arms race. Possessing a nuclear bomb would radically augment Iran’s political influence – and the influence of its terrorist proxies – as well as making it nearly impervious to international pressure. The West has a clear, vested interest in preventing this from happening. In contrast, the ongoing civil war in Syria is primarily a humanitarian crisis.

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Joel 1: 14-20

Consecrate a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly; gather the elders [and] all the inhabitants of the land to the house of Yahweh your God, and cry out to Yahweh. Alas for the day! For the day of Yahweh is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty. Has not food been cut off before our eyes, gladness and joy from the house of our God? The seeds shrivel under their clods; the storehouses are desolate, the barns are torn down, for the grain is dried up. How the beasts groan! The herds of cattle wander aimlessly because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep suffer. To You, O Yahweh, I cry; for fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness and the flame has burned up all the trees of the field. Even the beasts of the field pant for You; for the water brooks are dried up and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
