4--Scripture of the Day

Ezekiel 47: 1-2

Then he brought me back to the door of the house; and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar. He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Elliott Abrams: Obama’s Trip to Jerusalem and the “Peace Process”—President Obama will make his first presidential visit to Israel in March. The White House spokesman said the president’s trip is “not focused on specific Middle East peace process proposals,” but given the itinerary – Jerusalem, Ramallah, and Amman – the so-called peace process will be near the top of the agenda at every meeting. The trip is a good thing: Israel is a close ally, and American presidents should visit there.

Amos Regev: The Mossad is not the enemy— The noisy, detailed media obsession with the Prisoner X affair could cause a lot of damage to Israel’s security.

Gideon Allon: A dangerous exercise— MKs must not bypass gag orders, especially on issues that are better left undiscussed.

Moshe Fuksman-Sha’al: Begin’s legacy withstands the test of time— Menachem Begin left behind a model of leadership driven by ideological consideration of values.

Clifford D. May: The ‘targeted-killing’ memos— Are those who called Bush and Cheney “war criminals” for “torturing” a hundred terrorists aware that Obama is killing thousands of terrorists?

Massimo Calabresi: Is Iran a Bigger Threat than North Korea?—Administration officials admit that they have adopted a policy of containing a nuclear North Korea, even as they say Pyongyang’s program is “unacceptable,” but they say there’s no way they would cave in to containing Iran if Tehran went nuclear. Containing a nuclear North Korea, as the U.S. contained Russia in the Cold War, is possible. Containing a nuclear Iran is not. Japan and South Korea accept the U.S. nuclear umbrella to protect them. In the Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey are unlikely to accept U.S. guarantees of protection against a nuclear Iran, so would pursue their own programs.

Israeli UN Ambassador Ron Prosor: Israel at UN: Hizbullah Remains Conspicuously Absent from EU List of Terrorist Groups— Eight months have passed since our last debate on “the protection of civilians in armed conflict.” Since then, the death toll in Syria has quadrupled – from 14,000 in June to over 60,000 now. The civilians caught in the crosshairs of the Assad regime continue to cry out for protection.

Aaron David Miller: Obama’s State of the Union Address—In his 2012 State of the Union speech, President Obama made it clear that he would prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and take no option off the table.

Barry Rubin: State of the Union Address on Foreign Policy: Careful Phrasing Conceals Disasters— While the State of the Union message was overwhelmingly domestically oriented, the foreign policy sections were most interesting. I’ll review them here. The president began in the same neo-patriotic mode  used in the second inaugural address, with a special emphasis on thanking U.S. troops. He used the imagery of the end of World War Two paralleling the return of troops from Iraq to promote his idea that the American economy must be totally restructured.

Arik Elman: The White House Will No Longer Attempt to Bypass or Ignore Netanyahu— There’s one very simple, very clear conclusion to be drawn from the sudden decision of President Obama to visit Israel, without waiting for Shimon Peres’ Presidential Conference in the summer, without there being any fundamental progress in the “peace process” to support – Netanyahu has won.

Dexter van Zile: Free Speech a Principle, Not an Instrument— One of the biggest challenges facing modern democracies is how to deal with anti-democratic movements that use the institutions of civil society to advance their cause. People responsible for governing these institutions find themselves in a bind when confronted with pro-totalitarian activists.

Barry Rubin: Backing Human Rights in Egypt — You’re Doing it Wrong, Mr. President— In giving his State of the Union speech, President Barack Obama will presumably brag about his greatest supposed achievement in the Middle East: support for democracy and human rights. But consider this amazing fact. Exactly two years ago there were massive demonstrations in Egypt against the Mubarak regime, which was a U.S. ally. Today there are massive demonstrations in Egypt against the Mursi, Muslim Brotherhood regime, which hates the United States and opposes its interests. The number of demonstrators killed by Mursi’s regime is approaching that of those who died during the anti-Mubarak revolt (an estimated 500 compared to 800 plus). Yet what a difference in U.S. policy! Two years ago the Obama administration found this repression to be unacceptable. It demanded Mubarak’s immediate resignation and spoke of human rights and democratic norms. Today we hear none of that. On the contrary, the Mursi regime is praised by the White House and advanced arms are given as presents to it without delay.

Udi Dekel and Orit Perlov: In Jordan, People Want Evolution, Not Revolution—On Jan. 23, 2013, elections were held for the Jordanian parliament. The Muslim Brotherhood called for a boycott of the elections. Discussion on the Jordanian social networks about the elections has focused on the roadmap of King Abdullah II, which seeks a transition to a parliamentary democracy, and the consequences of the “Arab Spring” for Jordan, with the fear of loss of control and stability and a preference for evolution over revolution. The election results are seen as a tactical victory for the king, a failure for the Muslim Brotherhood, and a victory for conservatives, tribal leaders, and businessmen.

Avihai Mandelblit and Keren Aviram: The Second Turkel Commission Report–The most significant conclusion by the commission was that “the examination and investigation mechanisms in Israel for complaints and claims of violations of the laws of armed conflict generally comply with Israel’s obligations under international law.” This is the most important legal stamp of approval for the legitimacy and competence of Israel’s law enforcement system.

Jonathan Rosenblum: Human beings do not have to apologize for their existence— Actually a dearth of people is currently a bigger threat to world stability than too many. Ninety-seven percent of the world’s population lives today in countries with declining fertility. Fertility rates in much of Europe and Japan are little above half of replacement levels, which renders those countries’ social welfare benefits for the elderly unsustainable in the near future, and insures an Islamic future for Europe, with all the benefits that entails. Most recent projections show world population beginning to decline well before the end of the century.

Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.: Obama’s ‘friends of Hamas’?— It may be that the Hagel appointment has been effectively checkmated. Should the nominee continue to stonewall, even Democrats — who are under immense pressure to hew to the party line but were privately appalled by his performance during a confirmation hearing two weeks ago — get a face-saving way to disassociate themselves from this loser.

Dr. Walid Phares: Obama abstract on the Middle East, admits Jihadi expansion, ignores Taliban after 2014— In his State of the Union speech of 2013, President Barack Obama addressed several crises in the Middle East and on the front of fighting terror. On Afghanistan President Obama assessed the outcome of his policies as a weakening of the Taliban and committed to a sustained withdrawal from the country while helping the Afghan Government to take the lead in military missions. The role of the US after withdrawal in 2014, according to Obama will be to assist the fight against al Qaeda. There was no mention of a fight against the Taliban after 2014. Does that mean that there will be a political engagement or even a partnership with the Taliban while pursuing combat with al Qaeda? How will that be to short of having the Taliban and al Qaeda splitting off? The Taliban are a Jihadist organization which is projected to make advances inside Afghanistan upon US and NATO withdrawal. It is to al Qaeda what bone is to flesh, cemented by ideology.

Kathleen Parker: Myths of the Mystique— Now is the time for all good women to pay homage to Betty Friedan, who 50 years ago wrote the game-changing manifesto “The Feminine Mystique.” With that book, Friedan helped propel a revolution led by, of all people, unhappy housewives. One feels silly even writing such a sentence, but revolutions have to start somewhere.

Harvard Health Letters: The secrets to healthy brain aging— Use it or lose it.

Bridget Johnson: Big Government, Executive Actions, More Programs, AWOL Spending Cuts—President Obama proposed increased spending on infrastructure and manufacturing, universal preschool, and raising the minimum wage to $9 an hour in the first State of the Union address of his second term. He also chided Congress for not working fast enough to pass new gun-control laws, referencing various victims of gun violence sprinkled throughout the chamber.

Bryan Preston: The State of Our Union Rendered in a Fractured Bizarro Lens—The state of our union is weak and fraying. This president has launched attacks on faith and is going out of his way to divide our people. Our economy is not growing, and North Korea greeted President Obama’s 2013 rendition of Give Me More Money with a nuclear test. But like with all of his other failed policies, Barack Obama declared that he will just keep on doing them all.

Robert Eugene Simmons Jr.: Bypassing the Politicians on Gun Control— What is also becoming increasingly apparent is that the new gun control laws on the books will make criminals, even felons, out of many legal and peaceful gun owners in America. Already gun owners in New York are refusing to register their suddenly illegal weapons and thus are becoming criminals overnight. If the situation leads to gun confiscation, such as “The Great Gun Grab” after Hurricane Katrina, the possibility for violence and potentially even civil war is high.

Jon N. Hall: The Taxpayer’s Share—Americans who have never paid income taxes are like the prodigal son whose debts are paid off by his father; they’re forever sheltered from the hard facts of what it takes to finance a nation.

Lloyd Marcus: Don’t freak. It’s just the R-word.—You might think you know the word I’ve been referring to this whole time, but then you might be surprised.  The word I am referring to is “Repent.”  See, some folks are uncomfortable when you add religious faith into the mix.  But as John Adams said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people.”

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
