The Media, Lies, and Damn Lies

Before I explain a tried and true method that the media uses to convey false information, please watch the short video below. In Google and on YouTube, this video carries the headline “Trump eyes reopening economy despite health warnings”:

**The CBS Headline is a Bald-Faced Lie**

Sadly, most people read only headlines. They may think of it as “speed reading”, but in fact, it’s not reading at all.

The media takes advantage of people who have this bad habit by including blatantly false information in titles if it helps to support their narrative. Psychologists describe what they are doing as “sending a subliminal message”, but it’s worse than that. It’s lying pure and simple.

If the media is challenged, they will say that the article, or the video in this instance, presented more complete information in the body of the article or video. They won’t admit that their goal was to convey false information.

They might say that the headline was just a teaser or click bait, but since that’s all most people read, see, or hear, that’s the entire message. The media knows exactly what it’s doing. That’s why it’s called “fake news”. In the truest sense, it’s lying.

I Watched This Incident

Thankfully, I watched this incident. This is what happened:

The “reporter” was playing gotcha. The goal was to show that President Trump won’t rely on “scientific data” when he makes the decision to re-open the economy.
The president said that he would gather his scientific experts together and solicit their advice (opinions) before making a decision.
The president went on to say that it would be “the most important decision of my life”.

**What Did CBS Leave Out?**

CBS did not report that President Trump has said repeatedly that he has a team of experts advising him. He has said over and over again that the experts have given him a broad range of opinions and that his job is to make a decision. Stated another way, the president’s job is to select the best alternative. That means some of the advice he receives will be given more weight than other advice.

That’s what presidents do. That’s why we need a president who has good sense, a person who can weigh the evidence and make an informed decision that is in the best interest of the country. That’s why the American people elected President Trump. He has good sense.

How Broad is the Range of Opinions that the President Considers?

President Trump has said that some of his scientific experts suggested that he should have left the economy open and let coronavirus run its course. If he had done that, the president said that at least 2 million people would have died. Most of the dead would have been elderly people with preexisting conditions and African Americans.

Scientific experts on the other end of the continuum suggested that the president should have shuttered the economy completely. That would have saved lies in the short-term, but it would have completely destroyed the economy and cost more lives in the long-term.

The president’s decision reflected the best thinking of all of his scientific experts. He didn’t let coronavirus run its course unimpeded, because the cost in lives was too high. He didn’t shut down the economy completely, either, for the same reason. His decision reflects what he thinks is best for the American people.

The President’s Judgment Really Matters

President Trump has very good judgment. For example, he decided to ban flights to and from China early on against the advice of some of his scientific experts who told him that coronavirus wasn’t spread by person-to-person contact. For rejecting bad advice from scientific experts, Democrats and the media called the president a racist and a xenophobe.

We now know that coronavirus is very contagious and that it’s spread by person-to-person contact. The president saved untold numbers of American lives by banning travel to and from China, Europe, and other places.

President Trump has handled the COVID-19 epidemic marvelously. He mobilized the forces at his disposal and attacked the virus, but he left room for state governors to make decisions that they think are in the best interest of their citizens. In other words, President Trump protected the Constitution throughout this difficult situation. That’s what great president’s do.

Democrat Duplicity

They mocked the president for urging caution, but now they are criticizing him for not doing enough to help them get out of the hole they dug for themselves.

I want to be perfectly clear. People are dying because of Democrats. They are beneath contempt.

From the very beginning, Democrats and the media have been playing political games with COVID-19.

There are Lies and Damn Lies

The media doesn’t just tell lies. They tell damn lies trying to sell their narrative. Sometimes it’s blatant, but most of the time it’s subtle. In the CBS video, it was subtle, but it was still a damn lie, fake news.

Several times over the past few weeks the president has said that he wishes the media in the U.S. was fair and honest. Then he acknowledges that by and large the media is a purveyor of fake news. That is a regrettable truth. I wish it wasn’t true, but it is. If I said that it isn’t true, I would be telling a damn lie.

Democrats and the Media are Playing Political Games with COVID-19

Democrats haven’t let up. Right now, they are playing games in Congress by slowing down the flow of funds to small businesses that have been forced by government to close their doors. The Day of Reckoning is coming.

The cost to small businesses and the people they employ is huge. As I said, Democrats are a disgrace to the nation and to the human race. Any politician who runs for office as a Democrat is either stupid or evil.
