Aditya Tejas—Pope Francis Condemns ‘Genocide’ Of Christians In Middle East:

Pope Francis on Thursday condemned the killing of Christians in the Middle East, calling it “genocide”and a “third world war,” in an address to the World Meeting of the Popular Movements in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The pope has expressed grave concern in the past about the dangers faced by Christians around the world, including in territories controlled by the Islamic State group.

“Today we are dismayed to see how in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world many of our brothers and sisters are persecuted, tortured and killed for their faith in Jesus,” he said, according to Firstpost. “In this third world war, waged piecemeal, which we are now experiencing, a form of genocide is taking place, and it must end.”

The pope is in Bolivia as part of a three-nation tour of South America, which also includes Ecuador and Paraguay — the poorest countries in the continent.

Francis’ comments come in the wake of the recent persecution of Christians at the hands of militants. In February, the Islamic State group released a video that showed 21 Egyptian Christians being held in a beach believed to be in Libya. The captives were forced down on their knees and beheaded.

Another video posted in April showed about 30 Ethiopian Christians being shot and beheaded by ISIS militants in Libya. An ISIS spokesman reportedly said at the time that the killings were carried out against the “followers of the cross,” and threatened to kill more Christians unless they convert to Islam.

SnyderTalk Comment: Pope Francis has been in his job since March 13, 2013.  Islamists have been slaughtering Christians all over the world since before he assumed the papacy.  The pope’s silence on the persecution of Christians has been deafening.

A few weeks ago, Raymond Ibrahim asked an important question: “Where’s the Pope’s Encyclical on Christian Persecution?”  It took the pope far too long to answer, and he didn’t even address the real problem.

It’s a global problem, not a Middle Eastern problem.

Most of the people in the world who call themselves “Christians” are Catholics.  In their minds, the pope is the head of the church.  They think that the pope will be there to protect them.  They are wrong.

I’ll be blunt: the pope does not represent the real church.  Only the Messiah can do that, and He does it.  He is our Leader and our Intercessor.

Just as in any denomination, some Catholics are real Christians.  Others are not.  The pope represents a religious institution.

This distinction will be lost on many people, but it is fundamental and essential.

Putting a fine point on it, Pope Francis is a Johnny-come-lately on Christian persecution at the hands of Islamist murderers.  Even worse, he must not grasp the ubiquity of the problem.  That’s a significant oversight.

Yahweh expects much more from people who claim to represent Him than the pope is delivering.  He doesn’t deserve a free pass any more than other elected officials, and that’s exactly what the pope is—an elected official.  It’s time to hold him accountable.

Now, see “Vatican delays trial of pope’s ex-diplomat accused of child porn, pedophilia”.

The pope is traveling a lot these days, and he’s dabbling in things that he doesn’t understand and has no direct control over.  Some argue that he is just trying to grab attention.

The Messiah never did anything to grab attention.  What He did attracted attention, though.

For example, consider the ten lepers:

11 While He was on the way to Jerusalem, He was passing between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As He entered a village, ten leprous men who stood at a distance met Him; 13 and they raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When He saw them, He said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were going, they were cleansed. 15 Now one of them, when he saw that he had been healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice, 16 and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But the nine—where are they? 18 Was no one found who returned to give glory to God, except this foreigner?” 19 And He said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17: 11-19

The Messiah told the lepers to show themselves to the priests because the Law requires it—see Leviticus 14.  Leprosy was a serious problem in Israel at that time, but despite the role they were supposed to play, the Pharisees had never seen anything like it.

Yahweh doesn’t need to do anything special to grab attention.  His actions do that automatically.

There is a lesson in this that the pope and other so-called “Christian leaders” should consider.  Yahweh isn’t a talker.  He’s a doer.

This is my advice for the pope: get your own house in order.  If you can’t do that, then you have no right to tell anyone what to do.

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Tasnim-Iran: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards: Destruction of Israel Is Islamic World’s Top Priority—The issue of Palestine and pursuing the strategy of the destruction of Israel are the Muslim world’s overriding priorities, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said in a statement Wednesday. Millions of people in Iran will attend rallies on Friday to show their solidarity with the cause of Palestine. The founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.

Melanie Phillips: Obama’s surrender to Iran nears its climax— The unthinkable is poised to occur. The US may pave the way for Iran to build a nuclear bomb. As yet another deadline for the deal that is supposed to prevent this looms has passed, the US-led negotiating team of Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany (P5+1) is giving in to Iran on every key issue. President Obama initially pledged that unfettered inspection of Iran’s nuclear facilities by the International Atomic Energy Authority was an absolute requirement. Iran said it would allow no such inspections. The US now says there is a need only for negotiated access to some facilities. The US promised sanctions would “snap back” should Tehran violate the agreement. Now it says this would depend on a majority vote among the P5+1.

Yaakov Amidror: Islamic State’s meteoric rise scorches the Middle East— Some time ago, I composed a position paper for the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar-Ilan University. “The Middle East is undergoing radical changes,” I wrote. “The process began after the 1979 Iranian Revolution introduced Shiite dynamics whose impact on the region is only now becoming apparent, and it is compounded by radical Islamic forces that have been brewing underneath the surface since the last caliphate, the Ottoman Empire, met its demise.” Radical Islam sees its doctrine as the cure for all that ails the Middle East, and for that matter Muslims worldwide. The French and British century-old regional division has created artificial borders and nations, some of which no longer exist, and others that are on the verge of collapse. Forgotten political forces, seemingly obliterated by tyrannical regimes, have resurfaced, and in many areas, tribal, ethnic and religious affiliations are now stronger than any national affiliation.”

Michael Curtis: Greece and its Jewish Problem—Greece is the historical land of myths that have influenced literature and life. No myth is more compelling than the series of heroic tasks performed by Hercules. Of these, the most enticing is his obtaining the golden apples of Hesperides. The challenge for Greece today and the general political and financial world is whether the country has a modern-day Hercules, the new Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, who can keep for it the golden apples lent to it in substantial amounts. The old adage is true. If you owe the bank $500 you are in trouble. If you owe the bank $5 million, the bank is in trouble. The golden apples that Greece has taken amount to a debt that is 180% of its GDP. The European Union and the international banking world know they might not reclaim even a bite of those apples.

Douglas Murray: What Politicians Say vs. What People Can See— Throughout a bombing-and-murder campaign lasting three decades, the BBC never referred to the Irish Republican Army (IRA) as the “so-called IRA.” If you flatten ISIS’s military, the strong-horse appeal of ISIS would simply go away. If there is nothing to join, no one can join it. Cameron’s and Obama’s tactic is to deny something that Muslims and non-Muslims can easily see and find out for themselves: that ISIS has a lot to do with Islam — the worst possible version, obviously, for Muslims and non-Muslims alike, but a version of Islam nevertheless.

Matthew Duss: Iran’s Nixonian Anti-Semitism, and What It Means for the Nuke Deal— Former Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren has said that he asked for the publication of his book to be moved up specifically so it would intervene in the debate over the Obama Administration’s proposed Iran deal. Part of his effort has involved an effort to reopen a discussion about the nature of the Iranian regime. In one of his op-eds, published in the Los Angeles Times, Oren took aim at a statement President Barack Obama made in a May interview with journalist Jeffrey Goldberg, regarding the anti-Semitism expressed by some Iranian leaders. Asked by Goldberg whether a regime that espouses such views can be counted on to be entirely rational, the president responded: “Well, the fact that you are anti-Semitic, or racist, doesn’t preclude you from being interested in survival. It doesn’t preclude you from being rational about the need to keep your economy afloat; it doesn’t preclude you from making strategic decisions about how you stay in power; and so the fact that the supreme leader is anti-Semitic doesn’t mean that this overrides all of his other considerations.” A number of writers quickly pounced on these remarks, arguing that they revealed a flaw in the president’s policy. “Obama believes that the Iranian government’s anti-Semitism is subject to the same rational cost-benefit calculus as any other aspects of a nation’s behavior, even if anti-Semitism is itself irrational,” wrote Armin Rosen in Business Insider, suggesting that this represented “a tension in Obama’s thinking that could prove fatal to his top foreign policy priority.” Tony Badran of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies even wrote that the interview shows that, “Obama will even defend anti-Semitism to spin his Iran deal.”

Joshua Mitnick: For Some Palestinians in East Jerusalem, a Pragmatic “Israelification”—More Palestinians from east Jerusalem are becoming Israeli citizens. Suha, a young Palestinian lawyer who passed the Israeli bar, said, “A lot of people are applying for it. Even people you would never expect: like sheikhs with beards. The lawyers that I work with all have it….Eventually I’m going to do it.” Ever since Israel conquered and immediately annexed east Jerusalem in 1967, the city’s hundreds of thousands of Palestinian residents resisted the Israeli system, even as their blue residency cards afforded them Israeli social benefits and freedom of movement. That meant preferring the status of permanent resident to full Israeli citizenship. In recent years, however, there have been hundreds of applicants for citizenship every year when once there were almost none. Palestinians are also increasingly moving into Jewish neighborhoods in Jerusalem. Sari Saeed, a hairdresser, now lives in the Jewish neighborhood of Pisgat Zeev because it’s cheaper than in neighboring Beit Haninah. “Renting here solves a lot of problems,” she says. “I am quite happy here and it’s very close to work.” The neighborhood of French Hill, just next to Hebrew University, also has been popular with Arabs in recent years. “It’s been uneventful,” says Yossi Klein Halevi, an American-born Israeli writer, referring to the influx of Arab families who have moved into his building.

Pnina Sharvit Baruch and Keren Aviram: Disregarding Reality, Yet Again: The Human Rights Council Commission of Inquiry Report—The report by the Commission of Inquiry appointed by the UN Human Rights Council to examine the 2014 Gaza war concludes that Israel’s military operations violated the laws of armed conflict and expressed concern regarding the possible commission of war crimes. The report reflects a clear lack of consideration of the actual realities of warfare, drawing conclusions based on pronouncements that are factually and legally dubious. During the war, the IDF fought against armed groups that employed an intentional strategy of systematic violation of the laws of armed conflict. Yet the report examines Israel’s actions in a detached and one-sided manner, without relating to the actions of its adversaries. Numerous civilian casualties resulting from attacks on targets located in populated areas do not necessarily mean that the attack was disproportionate and therefore illegal. The commission’s analysis assumes the existence of some alternative course of action that was not followed. However, beyond the provision of warnings and the use of weapons that were as precise as possible, how could the extensive harm to civilians have been prevented, except by refraining from attack altogether? But how – without these attacks – could Hamas have been prevented from continuing to fire at Israeli citizens? In the absence of answers to these questions, the commission’s assertions remain accusations with no basis in reality. Based on Israel’s failure to issue significant indictments for acts of warfare, the commission concluded that “impunity prevails across the board” for violations of international law. This reflects a baseless assumption that the absence of indictments for war crimes is indicative of a cover-up, rather than indicative of the fact that war crimes were either not committed or could not be proven on a criminal level.

Samuel Westrop: Islamism: Blaming the West—Islamist terror is not the product of Western policy. As David Cameron rightly notes, it is a global ideological network, with both violent and non-violent branches, and appears committed to enveloping everyone throughout the world. But in the world of Giles Fraser, Baroness Warsi and friends, it seems as if terrorists are not radical, extremists are not extreme, and Islamism is not the product of Islamist ideas.

Paul McLeary: Army releases controversial plan— The Army chose an interesting time to unveil a plan for cutting a staggering 40,000 troops and 17,000 civilians by 2018. By leaking most of it to the press earlier in the week, the service guaranteed that Senators would ask the nominee to be the next head of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Joe Dunford, about it during his confirmation hearing on Thursday. They also got the plan out there as grist for questioning later this month when Gen. Mark Milley is expected to head up to the Hill for his own confirmation hearing to be the next Army chief of staff. And in the process, the Army just might have kickstarted the debate over the mandatory budget cuts that will kick in Oct. 1, when fiscal year 2016 begins. Sen. John McCain has been calling for the White House and the Hill to do something about the cuts for months, to little avail. Will this be the forcing function needed to get the debate moving? Time will tell. The numbers. The Army estimates that the cut of 40,000 soldiers will result in savings of $7 billion over four years, dollars that are critical for the service’s plans to modernize its ground vehicle and helicopter fleets. But to do so, there’ll be thousands of fewer troops at about 25 Army bases around the world.

John Follain, Indira Lakshmanan and Kambiz Foroohar: New Tensions Emerge in Iran Nuclear Talks—As the Iran nuclear talks grind on in Vienna, frustrations have boiled over into decidedly undiplomatic confrontations. In one incident on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif could be heard shouting in nearby rooms. In another meeting on the weapons embargo, Zarif erupted again when Western powers talked of Iran’s role in roiling the Middle East. “If we are talking about regional security, I should take every one of you to international courts for supporting Saddam [Hussein],” Zarif said. Another clash on Monday involved Zarif telling Federica Mogherini, the EU foreign policy chief, to lay off the “threats.” An account provided by Russia’s RIA Novosti said a senior official (later identified as Mogherini) told Zarif that if he didn’t want to reach a deal, they could end the talks right then and there. According to RIA, Zarif snapped back: “Never try to threaten the Iranians.”

Jonathan Tirone and Henry Meyer: Russia Seeks End to Iran Arms Embargo—Russia is poised to reap $7 billion from arms sales to Iran over the next decade in the event of a nuclear deal, according to Ruslan Pukhov, head of the Moscow-based Center of Analysis of Strategies and Technologies. The Islamic Republic needs a “huge upgrade” of its fighter jets, navy and air defense systems, he said. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, “It is essential to reach an agreement on lifting the arms embargo as soon as possible.” With or without a deal, Iran’s military is close to producing armor-piercing weapons made from either natural or depleted uranium, said Karl Dewey, a London-based IHS Janes analyst. Their high heat and density can melt through thick alloys to deposit their explosives. Iran’s ability to turn the leftovers from its uranium enrichment program into armor-busting munitions has been a subject of the current nuclear talks, according to a U.S. administration official.

Tim Mak: U.S. Fears Iran Deal Will Release Billions for Terror Attacks—A nuclear agreement with Iran could give Tehran a $100 billion financial windfall – a sum that even the Obama administration is concerned could be used to finance terrorism against American interests. “We are of course aware and concerned that, despite the massive domestic spending needs facing Iran, some of the resulting sanctions relief could be used by Iran to fund destabilizing actions,” a State Department official told the Daily Beast. “The U.S. sees Iran clearly for what it is: the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism; a supporter of terrorist groups such as Hizbullah and Hamas; a backer of the Assad regime’s brutality in Syria; and a force for instability in Yemen.”

Laurie R. Blank: What the UN Report on Gaza Left Out—The UN Human Rights Council’s report on the 2014 Gaza conflict is replete with faulty legal analysis, unjustified presumptions and an astounding willingness to take Hamas’ claims at face value coupled with an unrelenting skepticism about Israeli efforts to comply with the law of war. The law of war prohibits perfidy (disguising oneself as a civilian in order to benefit from the law’s protections while launching an attack); using protected objects, such as hospitals or religious buildings, for military purposes; and using civilians as human shields. Yet the commission made no recommendations at all with regard to the use of civilians as human shields, comingling with the civilian population and using civilian objects and infrastructure for military purposes (such as launching rockets from hospitals, mosques or UN schools), or fighting while disguised as civilians. Thus the report hands Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups a free pass to continue their modus operandi. The report’s glaring omissions of foundational legal principles emasculate the law, weakening the essential tools for the protection of civilians and emboldening those who use civilians as pawns for their own strategic gain.

Janet Svirzenski: The World Does Not Understand Israel’s Conflict with Hamas—I live in Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, four miles from the Gaza border. When I first moved here, we used to have 25 Palestinians from Gaza working in the kibbutz. When the Gaza war broke out a year ago we had already had two weeks of rocket attacks. Hamas started the war. When I saw the protests against the Gaza war in the UK and other countries last year, I felt there was little understanding of the conflict. People do not understand that it is Hamas who is the enemy of the Palestinian people. Hamas is taking the civilian population and putting it in front of bombs. It is not helping people to rebuild their homes, school and hospitals. We see the trucks passing into Gaza with construction materials and we don’t see it being used to rebuild. Hamas is rebuilding the tunnels.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 14

13 But Moses said to the people, “Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of Yahweh which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 Yahweh will fight for you while you keep silent.” 15 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the sons of Israel to go forward. 16 As for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, and the sons of Israel shall go through the midst of the sea on dry land. 17 As for Me, behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them; and I will be honored through Pharaoh and all his army, through his chariots and his horsemen. 18 Then the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh, when I am honored through Pharaoh, through his chariots and his horsemen.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
