Abortion: If We’re Heading Toward another Civil War, Gun Rights will Prove to be Crucial
Yesterday, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. It should have been a day of rejoicing in our country, but for many of our fellow citizens, it was a day of mourning. They believe they have lost a “constitutional right”. They think the rug was snatched out from under them.
There isn’t anything in the Constitution that grants or even hints at giving women the “right” to murder their unborn babies with impunity. It isn’t even a close call. Experts in constitutional law have known since the Supreme Court issued its Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 that what happened yesterday was bound to happen sooner or later. It finally did happen.
Yesterday evening on CNBC, I watched CEOs of several companies explain that they would revise their health plans so that their women employees who want to have abortions can get them. They said that if the states where their women employees work don’t allow abortions, they will pay for flights to states where abortions are still being performed. When that happens, states like California will start advertising campaigns urging women to consider their states for abortions.
I’m not talking about just a few companies. The CEOs of lots of companies with names that all of us recognize say they are determined to make sure that the “reproductive rights” of their women employees are protected.
At this stage of the game, those CEOs haven’t considered all the facts. Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision simply left it up to the states to decide what is right where abortions are concerned. Some states, maybe most of them, will not just ban abortions. They will also declare that unborn babies are living human beings with real constitutional rights. When they do, abortions will become murder or premediated murder.
Do those CEOs plan for their firms to become complicit in murder? The penalty for complicity in murder is not a slap on the wrist.
I know something about how corporations work. If large numbers of women work for a company and a large number of those women want to get abortions, someone in the accounting department will figure out that he can bargain for reduced airfare if the women travel in groups to states where abortions are legal. He will recommend that the company wait until 10 or 20 or 30 women want abortions before it authorizes an abortion trip.
Will airline companies that bargain with companies to book abortion flights be complicit in murder, too? It’s possible. The abortion provider may be in New York or California, but if the flights leave from Oklahoma where abortions are banned and declared murder, the companies and the airlines can be charged for complicity in murder.
Will airlines drop flights from states where abortions are banned? That’s possible but not likely. We know one thing for sure about corporations. They love money. CEOs may talk a big game, but in the end, they go where the money is. Also, they don’t want to go to prison.
The abortion battle is far from over. Yesterday’s Supreme Court decision was like the 2nd inning in a baseball game. The game isn’t over until the 9th inning.
Currently, 26 of the 50 states are expected to ban abortions. See “26 States Are Certain or Likely to Ban Abortion Without Roe: Here’s Which Ones and Why”.
You can bet that some of those states will declare that those unborn babies are living human beings. That will make abortions murder in those states.

This reminds me of the political battles that developed across the nation prior to the Civil War in 1860. There were free states and slave states and new states that hadn’t taken a position on slavery. Eventually, the Civil War settled the matter. That war remains the bloodiest war the U.S. ever fought.
Are we heading for another Civil War? I don’t know, but I can see things on the horizon that make me believe civil war is a real possibility.
When you include gun rights in the discussion and realize that the states that want to keep abortions legal are the same states that want to outlaw guns, you can see more evidence of a constitutional crisis looming on the horizon.
There is no doubt about gun rights in the Constitution. They are spelled out in very clear language. If we’re heading toward another Civil War, gun rights will prove to be crucial.
By the way, open your Bible and read Judges, 1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings, 1 and 2 Chronicles. Then read the prophets. All of those books show Israel going through exactly what the U.S. is going through right now.
Yahweh is, always has been, and always will be very clear about where He stands:
“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5: 20)
In the end, Yahweh wins, justice prevails, and right is vindicated. That’s what will happen this time, too.
