Politicians and Constitutional Rights: Confusion Abounds
When it comes to abortion and gun control, there is a significant difference between Republicans and Democrats, but both parties have members who are on the wrong side of both issues.
Let’s start with the “constitutional right” that women have to get an abortion. I put quotation marks around “constitutional right”, because the Constitution includes no such right. It was thrust upon us by the Supreme Court in 1973 in Roe v. Wade.
Abortion
Abortion is premeditated murder. There is no doubt about the fact that unborn babies are human beings. They are alive in the womb and attached to their mothers by umbilical cords. They have DNAs that are distinct from their mothers’ DNAs. They move about in the womb. They have personalities. In every conceivable way, they are unique human beings.
Does the Constitution Include a “right” to kill anyone without due process?
The answer to that question is unquestionably “NO”. In fact, the Constitution protects human rights and says that no one should be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process. Abortion is the premeditated murder of an innocent human being without due process. Women do not have a constitutional right to murder their children.
Democrats are worse than Republicans
Democrats have made the so-called “right” of a woman to murder her unborn children a cause célèbre. More than any other issue, abortion rights are the glue that holds the Democrat Party together. Republicans are different in that regard, but to attract members, many Republicans want to ignore the fact that abortion of unborn children is premediated murder. Both political parties are guilty, but Democrats are worse than Republicans.
Gun Control
The Constitution includes the 2nd Amendment. It says,
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
Despite the plain language in the Constitution, Democrats in particular keep looking for a way to deny U.S. citizens the right to “keep and bear arms”. They point to deaths from guns that are used in the commission of crimes as justification for restricting those constitutional rights.
In Democrat-run cities across the nation, 2nd Amendment rights have been infringed upon with enthusiasm, and the Supreme Court has been slow to address the problem. Ironically, crimes with guns are most prevalent in Democrat-run cities despite those infringements. Since criminals ignore those laws, Democrats in Democrat-run cities have armed criminals in their jurisdictions and denied law-abiding citizens the right to protect themselves and their families.
The Bottom Line
- There is no constitutional right to murder anyone including unborn children.
- The constitutional right to keep and bear arms is crystal clear. Exceptions to those rights must be removed, and no further exceptions should be granted.
- The Supreme Court has work to do. So far, the Supreme Court has failed to do its job.
