“Seek Yahweh while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return to Yahweh, and He will have compassion on him. Turn to our Elohim, for He will abundantly pardon.”

Isaiah 55: 6-7

No Back Surgery…for Now

A few days ago, I wrote a SnyderTalk editorial titled “2021: My Lost Summer” in which I explained that I have been dealing with back problems for more than 55 years. Sometimes, the pain has been so intense that I have had to roll out of bed in the mornings. Even so, no matter how bad the pain was at times, I was always able to deal with it and return to my normal in a few days.

In the summer of 2021, I wasn’t able to do that. The pain lasted for more than 2 months. Nothing I did to deal with the pain worked. That caused me to conclude that surgery was my only option.

Many SnyderTalk readers who have a similar problem contacted me and told me that I should not be so hasty. They had gotten surgery, and they wanted me to know that back surgery is not a panacea. A few years after back surgery, the pain tends to return. They advised me to try every other option before surgery, because surgery can’t be undone.

I decided to take their advice. I indefinitely postponed surgery, and I am taking steps to deal with my problem in less invasive ways. If it works, I may never have back surgery. If my problem does get worse, surgery is always an option, the last option.

My back problem is identical to the back problem that Tiger Woods had. Below is a video of Woods back surgery procedure. He won the Masters after back surgery. I don’t care about golf. I have to go to Jerusalem and function well there.

For the Record

Woods’ back surgery was done at the Texas Back Institute in Plato, Texas. It’s a suburb of Dallas.

1 “These are the statutes and the judgments which you shall carefully observe in the land which Yahweh, the Elohim of your fathers, has given you to possess as long as you live on the earth. 2 You shall utterly destroy all the places where the nations whom you shall dispossess serve their gods, on the high mountains and on the hills and under every green tree. 3 You shall tear down their altars and smash their sacred pillars and burn their Asherim with fire, and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods and obliterate their name from that place. 4 You shall not act like this toward Yahweh your Elohim. 5 But you shall seek Yahweh at the place which Yahweh your Elohim will choose from all your tribes, to establish His Name there for His dwelling, and there you shall come. 6 There you shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the contribution of your hand, your votive offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock. 7 There also you and your households shall eat before Yahweh your Elohim, and rejoice in all your undertakings in which Yahweh your Elohim has blessed you.” (Deuteronomy 12: 1-7)

“I am the good shepherd. I know My sheep and My sheep know Me — just as the Father knows Me and I know the Father — and I lay down My life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also. They too will listen to My voice, and there shall be one flock and one Shepherd. The reason My Father loves Me is that I lay down My life — only to take it up again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from My Father.”

John 10: 14-18
