Today’s Feature
Isaiah 9: 1-6 tells about the Messiah:
- He will come out of Galilee. (Isaiah 9: 1)
- He is a light blazing forth in a dark land. (Isaiah 9: 2)
- He will remove His people’s yoke or burden. (Isaiah 9: 3)
- He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9: 6)
Isaiah 11: 1-9 provides more details about Him:
- He will come from the stock of Jessie (David’s father). (Isaiah 11: 1)
- The Spirit of Yahweh will rest on Him. (Isaiah 11: 2)
- He will be the Righteous Judge. (Isaiah 11: 3-4)
- “He will strike the earth with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He will slay the wicked.” (Isaiah 11: 4)
In other words, the Messiah speaks, and it is done. That’s reminiscent of Yahweh at the creation. Obviously, the Messiah is no ordinary person, and it would be preposterous to conclude that He would come into the world in the usual way. Isaiah told Ahaz that a virgin would bear Him, and He is Immanuel—God who is with us.
Commentary
President Obama has failed to spell out the details in his healthcare plan—if there are any—just as he failed to clarify the details in his stimulus package, and you see what we got. He hit the news shows yesterday, all of them except Fox News Sunday, in a desperate attempt to stave off defeat. He’s afraid the dems are going to lose control of Congress and that they will lose in the coming gubernatorial elections. He’s right. That’s why he directed NY governor Paterson not to run (see article in today’s SnyderTalk). Don’t give up hope and don’t hesitate to contact your members of Congress—both House and Senate.
Ours is a representative republic. Every 2 years, every House member faces re-election and one-third of the Senate faces re-election. We owe a debt of thanks to our Founding Fathers for providing us with a mechanism for peacefully removing from office elected officials who are unfit. Now is the time for you to get active and to remain vigilant. Too much is a stake to sit on the sidelines.
