Without Faith It’s Impossible to Please Yahweh

David was born in 1040 BC. He died in 970 BC at age 70.

When David was 15-years-old, the prophet Samuel anointed him as King of Israel, but he didn’t assume the throne until 1010 BC when he was 30-years-old. David served as king on the throne for 40 years.

Samuel Tells Saul that Yahweh has Rejected Him as King

Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have violated the command of Yahweh and your words, because I feared the people and listened to their voice. Now then, please pardon my sin and return with me, so that I may worship Yahweh.” But Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of Yahweh, and Yahweh has rejected you from being king over Israel.” Then Samuel turned to go, but Saul grasped the edge of his robe, and it tore off. So Samuel said to him, “Yahweh has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to your neighbor, who is better than you. Also, the Glory of Israel will not lie nor change His mind; for He is not a man, that He would change His mind.” (1 Samuel 15: 24-29)

Samuel Anoints David as King

So Samuel said to Jesse, “Send word and bring him [David]; for we will not take our places at the table until he comes here.” So he [Jesse] sent word and brought him [David] in. Now he [David] was reddish, with beautiful eyes and a handsome appearance. And Yahweh said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is he.” So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of Yahweh [the Holy Spirit] rushed upon David from that day forward. And Samuel set out and went to Ramah. Now the Spirit of Yahweh [the Holy Spirit] left Saul, and an evil spirit from Yahweh terrified him. (1 Samuel 16: 11-14)

15 Long Years

For 15 years, David knew that he would become King of Israel, and King Saul knew it, too. To David, it must have felt like an eternity.

For 15 years, the evil spirit from Yahweh tortured Saul while he tried to kill David. Saul wanted to prevent Yahweh’s word from coming to pass. It didn’t work. It never works. David became King of Israel, but he had to endure 15 years of hardship before it happened. David could have given up on Yahweh at any time, but he didn’t.

That’s the way Yahweh does things. David’s faith in Yahweh never wavered.

Yahweh tells people what He is going to do before He does it, and then we must have faith in Him to do what He said He will do. It has always been that way. It’s true for all of Yahweh’s children even today.

Be patient. Have faith. Obey Yahweh.
