Facebook and Its “Fact-Checkers” aren’t Smart Enough to Censor Most Content
I’ll begin this SnyderTalk editorial with a true story. It’s about Ignaz Semmelweis, a Hungarian physician who practiced medicine in the 1800s.
In 1846, Semmelweis became what amounted to chief resident at the First Obstetrical Clinic of the Vienna General Hospital in Vienna, Austria. The hospital had 2 free clinics for pregnant women. At one clinic, the mortality rate for women was about 10%. At the other clinic, the mortality rate was less than 4%.
The difference in mortality rates for women at the clinics was widely known by physicians at the hospital, but nothing was done to determine why the difference existed until Semmelweis came onboard. Indigent women in Vienna knew about the difference, too. They would literally get down on their knees and beg not to be admitted to the clinic with the higher mortality rate. Some indigent women preferred to give birth on the streets of Vienna instead of being admitted to the clinic with the higher mortality rate, because street births were safer.
Semmelweis investigated the problem and concluded that sanitary practice differences explained the divergence. Washing hands between patients proved to be the key. Today, we know that Semmelweis was right, but in the mid-1800s, his conclusion created a firestorm because it was at odds with the medical consensus of the day.
Doctors in the mid-1800s believed that diseases were caused by an imbalance of the “four humours” in the body, a theory that was known as dyscrasia. Doctors at that time believed diseases could be treated by bloodletting to restore a “proper balance”.
Without getting into too much detail, senior doctors at the hospital believed that Semmelweis committed the unpardonable sin. He challenged existing medical orthodoxy by pinning the blame for the difference in mortality rates at the clinics on a microscopic enemy. As far as senior doctors at the hospital were concerned, that was heresy, so they drummed Semmelweis out of the hospital.
Semmelweis put his theory about microscopic germs being the culprit into practice at his next venue. He instituted a handwashing regimen and produced outstanding results. Semmelweis died an embittered man decades before the medical community accepted his theory.
Facebook and Its “Fact-Checkers”
Facebook and its “fact-checkers” are like the senior doctors at Vienna General Hospital. They are actively engaged in censoring ideas that challenge the existing Democrat Party orthodoxy.
In effect, Facebook is shilling for the Democrat Party and trying to perpetuate the Democrat Party narrative in hopes of defeating President Trump in the 2020 presidential election. From where I sit, it looks as though Facebook has decided that facts don’t matter if promoting lies produces political results that it prefers. I think that’s a criminal matter.
Strong opinions demand strong evidence. Thankfully, strong evidence abounds.
Not Wearing a Face Mask
Click here to watch a short video. A young woman was attending an outdoor sporting event, and she was not wearing a face mask. She was arrested and removed from the premises.
Facebook “fact-checkers” said that it was “False Information”. See “Fact Check: Woman Was NOT Arrested For Not Wearing A Mask – She Was Arrested For Criminal Trespassing”.
Anyone who took the time to watch the video knows that it is obvious the young woman was not trespassing. She was one of many attendees at the sporting event. If she was trespassing, so were the other attendees. They were not arrested or told to leave. The young woman’s being there was not the problem.
The Facebook “fact-checker” conclusion is patently absurd, but it dovetails perfectly with the Democrat Party narrative. Mask wearing is the Democrat Party’s virtue signal du jour.
That decision makes Facebook “fact-checkers” look like idiots. Punishing anyone for posting this video is insane.
Hydroxychloroquine
Hydroxychloroquine is a drug with a decades-long history of effectiveness, and it has proven to be an effective treatment for Covid-19. See “Yale prof: ‘Evidence overwhelming’ for fighting COVID with hydroxychloroquine”.
President Trump mentioned that hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for Covid-19 during a press briefing and was mercilessly attacked by Democrat operatives in the establishment media. Eventually, doctors were threatened for saying publicly that hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for Covid-19, and pharmacists have been warned not to fill doctors’ prescriptions for the drug.
Facebook joined the circus. It flagged posts suggesting that hydroxychloroquine is an effective treatment for Covid-19. What was its motive? The obvious answer is that Facebook is promoting a political agenda.
Facebook has some explaining to do, hopefully in court.
Climate Change
CNN published an article titled “Greenland’s ice sheet has melted to a point of no return, according to new study”. I posted the article on Facebook along with this comment:
I guess people today don’t understand why Greenland is called “Greenland”.
When Greenland was settled by Vikings in the late-900s AD, it was green. That was long before industrialization and long before man-made CO2 emissions were blamed for global warming.
“Liberal progressives” must believe we live in a static world.
Newsflash: The climate is always changing. It has always been changing. Humans didn’t make it happen, and humans can’t stop it from happening.
This is counter-intuitive, but melting glaciers reduce the salinity of sea water and slow ocean currents. That is a precursor to an Ice Age. Now is the time to prepare for cold weather. “Liberal progressives” won’t know it has happened until after it happens.

My post was flagged by Facebook. The company said,
“Independent fact-checkers at Science Feedback say that information in a post shared by SnyderTalk is missing context and could mislead people. We’ve added a notice to the post.”
Facebook went on to say,
“Article by CNN exaggerates study’s implications for future Greenland ice loss with ‘point of no return claim.'”
Adding insult to injury, Facebook said,
“Your Page has reduced distribution and other restrictions because of repeated sharing of false news. People will also be able to see if a Page has a history of sharing false news.”
Anyone with half a brain can see that I was criticizing the CNN article for exaggerating its claim. So, in effect I was punished for saying exactly what Facebook “fact-checkers” told me. That is ludicrous. Did they even read my comment? I doubt it.
Every time one of my Facebook posts has been flagged, I think it has been about 6 times, Facebook has messed up. Facebook and its “fact-checkers” aren’t smart enough to censor content.
Leaders at Facebook probably think they are protecting the company by implementing a sham “fact-checker” process. I think they have exposed the company to significant legal liability by restricting free speech and by imposing their view on the Facebook community as “accepted truth”. George Orwell wrote about that problem in his book 1984.
Besides, why would Facebook punish me or anyone else for posting an article that appeared in CNN? That’s insane.
What is the company up to? Facebook “fact-checkers” are a disgrace.
The Covid-19 Pandemic Scam
Below is a video that contains important information about the Covid-19 pandemic scam. You need to watch it. It’s long, but watching it will be worth your time.
No intelligent person doubts that we have a pandemic on our hands. That’s not the issue. The problem is that the pandemic is being used to achieve objectives that have nothing to do with the disease. In the process, people around the world are dying and being left destitute for no good reason.
