Geoffrey Berman: What a Difference a Day Makes

What a difference a day makes.

On Saturday June 20, 2020, yesterday, Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, brazenly declared that he was not leaving his position after AG Barr did him the courtesy of announcing Berman’s resignation.

The establishment media jumped all over it. They said that President Trump was firing the prosecutor who was investigating him and his associates.

Disgraced former FBI Director Jim Comey came to Berman’s defense. Comey said that Berman was a man of integrity, high moral standards, and decency.  Fired former National Security Advisor John Bolton chimed in, too.

You know the media has left journalistic standards in the dust when a rat gets national publicity for defending another rat.

We are still waiting to hear from Jim Mattis, John Kelly, Mark Esper, Mark Milley, and Alexander Vindman.

AG Barr explained that the president didn’t ask him to fire Berman.  He said that he had asked the president for permission to let Berman go and that the president had consented. In other words, the attorney general had problems with Berman.

U.S. Attorneys Serve at the Pleasure of the President

Today, Sunday June 21, 2020, the confrontation is over.  See “Geoffrey Berman is leaving office immediately after standoff with Trump administration”.

Someone must have explained to Berman that he served at the pleasure of the president. That’s not a complex legal matter.  It’s crystal clear.

It’s easy to understand why anyone in law enforcement would have serious issues with Berman.  His refusal to be removed from office suggests that what we know about him is just the tip of the iceberg.  Who knows what he may have been up to?

Berman and the 2020 Presidential Election

Geoffrey Berman is a Republican.  He was appointed by President Trump early in his administration.  He was recommended for the job by then AG Jeff Sessions.  That was before the president understood that Sessions is a snake in the grass.

I think Jeff Sessions was a plant.  His decision to recuse himself during the Russia collusion hoax suggests to me that he was working openly to obstruct the president. He is a typical establishment Republican.  So is Geoffrey Berman.

Berman can’t be so stupid that he believed he could survive a confrontation with the president over something as obvious as the president’s authority to replace him.  The evidence suggests that this confrontation is the opening salvo of establishment Republicans working together with “liberal progressive” Democrats to defeat President Trump in November.

Both groups are desperate. Both groups will do just about anything to win, because their political survival is at stake.

Draining the swamp isn’t easy.  Thank Yahweh for President Trump.

Establishment Republicans are a Mess

Establishment Republicans support Joe Biden for president. They supported Hillary Clinton, too.

They lost in 2016.  They will lose again in 2020.

“I pray…that they may all be one, even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me. The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one. I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 21-24)
