Americans Don’t Trust the Justice Department

Americans don’t trust the Justice Department, because they have seen how perverse “justice” is at the DOJ.  The FBI is part of the DOJ.

The average American can be forgiven for not understanding how unjust the DOJ is.  It wasn’t perfectly clear until a few months ago.

Ordinary citizens want to trust their political leaders and high-ranking administrators, so they give them the benefit of the doubt. That has proven to be a formula for disaster.

I won’t rehash everything that people should know already, but this is America.  I know better than to leave too much to chance.

Below is the predicate for the conclusions I will draw at the end of this SnyderTalk editorial.  It’s not exhaustive, but it’s sufficient.  I’m dealing only with the Russia collusion hoax, but there is much more injustice at the DOJ that needs to be investigated:

  1. The Russia collusion hoax originated with the Hillary Clinton campaign.
  2. It was based on a fraudulent investigation by disgraced former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele.
  3. The Hillary campaign recruited Senator John McCain to deliver the fraudulent Steele dossier to FBI Director James Comey.
  4. Comey leaked parts of the fraudulent Steele dossier to the New York Times.
  5. The initial phase of the Russia collusion hoax did not prevent Donald Trump from winning the 2016 presidential election.
  6. Within days of President Trump’s election victory and about 2 ½ months before his inauguration, media titans in the U.S. including the New York Times and the Washington Post announced that they were hiring “hit squads” to take down the Trump administration.
  7. Within minutes of President Trump’s inauguration, Democrats announced that the impeachment process had begun.
  8. A chorus of Democrat voices in the House and Senate started singing “Russia collusion” day and night. It was led by Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. Adam Schiff and Jerry Nader were the loudest voices.  Media titans covered everything they said and presented it as fact.
  9. Anyone who dared to question the Democrat Russia collusion narrative was portrayed by the media as a fool or an idiot or a criminal.
  10. Senator Jeff Sessions begged to be appointed attorney general. As quickly as the Trump administration set up shop, AG Sessions recused himself and turned over the Russia collusion hoax investigation to Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein.
  11. Rosenstein led the Russia collusion investigation from the DOJ.  He recommended firing FBI Director Comey, and President Trump fired Comey on May 9, 2017.
  12. Rosenstein appointed Robert Mueller to lead a special investigation of the Russia collusion hoax on May 17, 2017.
  13. Mueller hired a team of Hillary supporters as investigators and gave them carte blanche and a virtually unlimited budget.
  14. Team Mueller leaked like a sieve. For about 2 ½ years, the American people were fed a steady diet of Democrat Russia collusion narrative until finally Robert Mueller delivered his report exonerating the president.
  15. For defending himself against false accusations, Mueller suggested that the president might have obstructed his investigation.
  16. Immediately after the release of the Mueller report, the drumbeat for impeachment grew louder, and miraculously, a whistleblower came forward with hearsay evidence about a phone call between President Trump and the newly elected President of Ukraine during which an alleged quid pro quo might have been proposed by President Trump.
  17. Nancy Pelosi jumped into action and led the House to launch an impeachment investigation.
  18. Initially, the impeachment investigation in the House was led by Jerry Nadler. Nadler had campaigned to become Chair of the House Judiciary Committee.  He told his colleagues that he was best qualified to impeach the president.
  19. Nadler blew it. His Judiciary Committee investigation produced nothing, and he looked like a fool.
  20. Pelosi turned over the impeachment investigation to Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff.
  21. Schiff was in cahoots with the alleged “whistleblower”. He led an investigation in the Intelligence Committee that produced absolutely no evidence of wrongdoing by the president or anyone in his administration. Even so, the committee recommended that the president be impeached.
  22. Nadler called the Judiciary Committee into action again. After another charade, the Judiciary Committee voted to impeach the president on two counts, neither one of which had to do with the commission of a crime, much less a high crime or misdemeanor.
  23. With pomp and circumstance Democrat House leaders ceremoniously delivered the articles of impeachment to the Senate along with a tacit admission that they had no evidence of a crime. They told the Senate that its job was to conduct an investigation.
  24. The Senate failed to convict President Trump.
  25. By the time the impeachment trial in the Senate was over, the American people knew the truth. The Russia collusion hoax and the Ukraine quid pro quo were nothing more than Democrat attempts to take down the Trump presidency and to prevent the president from doing his job.

As I said, that’s not an exhaustive presentation of the facts, but it’s sufficient, and it leads me to what I believe is a continuation of injustice at the DOJ and the FBI.

Enter FBI Director Wray

Christopher Wray became FBI Director on August 2, 2017.  That was almost 3 years ago.  All of the injustices I presented above have been evident since long before Wray assumed office, yet he has been unwilling to do his job.

In April 2019, almost 2 years after Wray’s appointment, Attorney General Barr ordered United States Attorney John Durham to conduct an independent investigation of the travesty of justice at the DOJ and the FBI. That didn’t inspire Wray to do his job, either.

As Durham’s report is nearing release and information in the report is being circulated/vetted in the DOJ and the FBI, Director Wray suddenly decided to launch an FBI investigation of malfeasance in the FBI.  See “FBI director Wray orders internal review of Flynn case”:

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Friday ordered an internal review into the investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn amid rising GOP pressure on the FBI chief to examine the circumstances of the case.

The bureau announced in a statement that the after-action review will have two objectives: Evaluate whether there was any misconduct or errors made by bureau officials during the course of their investigation, and to determine whether there are ways to improve FBI policies and procedures.

The FBI said its Inspection Division will lead the review, which will “complement” the work of U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen, who is reviewing the prosecution of Flynn and guiding the decision of the Justice Department (DOJ) on how to proceed in the case.

“The after-action review will complement the already substantial assistance the FBI has been providing to U.S. Attorney Jeff Jensen in connection with his work on the Flynn case,” the statement says.

“However, Mr. Jensen’s work will continue to take priority, and the Director has further ordered the Inspection Division to coordinate closely with Mr. Jensen and ensure that the review does not interfere with or impede his efforts,” it adds.

Wray’s move comes as he has increasingly become the target of frustrations among the White House and its allies, who want to press forward with investigations into what President Trump has dubbed “Obamagate.”

FBI Director Wray is Feeling the Heat

A few days ago, President Trump said that the jury is still out on Director Wray.  See “Trump says ‘the jury’s still out’ on FBI Director Chris Wray”.

With each passing day, Wray is looking more and more like a part of the problem instead of a part of the solution.

When Durham’s report is released, a cavalcade of voices will demand that Director Wray be fired for failing to do his job.  See “Pressure builds in Trumpworld to fire FBI director Christopher Wray”.

The pressure won’t be coming from “Trumpworld” when Durham’s report is released.  It will be coming from law-abiding citizens who demand equal justice under the law.

No One is Above the Law

“No one is above the law” isn’t just a slogan.  It’s a principle of jurisprudence in the United States.  High-ranking politicians and people in the DOJ and the FBI aren’t above the law.  Neither are intelligence officials.

Ordinary Americans have lost confidence in our government because they know that justice isn’t blind.  Restoring lost confidence demands that justice be meted out equally.  The restoration process can’t begin until there is a wholesale housecleaning at the DOJ, the FBI, and U.S. intelligence agencies.  The restoration process won’t be complete until the people who committed crimes are sent to prison.

The American people are fed up.  Coming as it does on the eve of the release of Durham’s report, Wray’s call of an FBI investigation looks like nothing more than a political stunt to save his job and his dignity.  If Wray knowingly sat on evidence of criminal wrongdoing at the FBI, he should be fired, and he should be charged with crimes.

Again, no one is above the law including Christopher Wray.

Jeff Sessions

Finally, see “Trump demands Jeff Sessions drop out of Senate race as bad blood boils in Alabama GOP primary”.

Jeff Sessions is a disgrace.  If he had done his job as attorney general, he could have spared the nation the travesty of justice that we have been forced to endure.  The fact that Sessions didn’t do his job suggests that he was too stupid to know what was going on all around him or that he was complicit with the perpetrators.  Whatever the case may be, Jeff Sessions should not be returned to Washington unless he’s going there to stand trial.
