Leftists in Israel and the U.S. are Just Alike

See “Israeli sovereignty and the fate of the Trump plan” by Caroline Glick:

Just before [Benny] Gantz traveled to Washington to meet with Trump at the White House last Monday, it came out that his top campaign strategists, Ronen Tzur and Joel Benenson had both separately published multiple posts on Twitter viciously attacking Trump. Both men compared him to Hitler, called him a Russian agent and a racist. In other words, both men parroted Democratic talking points against Trump. (After his posts were reported, Tzur claimed that he no longer believed the things he had written.)

Whereas Tzur – like every garden variety Israeli leftist politico – apparently follows the Democrats on everything related to American public affairs automatically, Benenson shapes Democratic positions. Benenson served as Barack Obama’s senior political strategist in the 2008 and 2012 elections and as Hillary Clinton’s senior political strategist in 2016.

In 2015, Wikileaks published Clinton’s campaign manager John Podesta’s emails. Several email chains included internal campaign discussions in which Benenson participated. In two discussions, Benenson advised Clinton not to mention Israel in public events.

Now Benenson is directing Blue and White’s campaign, and there is little reason for surprise at the seamlessness of his move from Obama and Clinton to Gantz. The Israeli left has been intertwined with the Democratic Party.

Like Two Peas in a Pod

I want to begin by saying that the map included in the Trump peace initiative needs to be corrected.  There is a serious problem with Highway 60 in Israel.  It runs north-to-south through the West Bank.  Many so-called “Israeli settlements” are on that route.  Israel needs to exercise sovereignty over Highway 60 to protect Israeli citizens in those settlements as they travel from their homes to population centers like Jerusalem and back.

That said, by and large the Trump peace initiative addresses Israel’s security concerns.  As I have pointed out in previous SnyderTalk editorials, Palestinians rejected President Trump’s plan before they saw it.

It doesn’t matter what our president proposes. Like Democrats, anything President Trump is for, Palestinians are against.  The same is true for leftist politicians in Israel.  They are just like Democrats, too.

I’ve talked with many leftists in Israel.  They are smug, cocksure people.  Talking with them is a waste of time.  They spout narrative, just like Democrats in the U.S.  When you challenge them, their first reaction is a bewildered expression.  They seem to be amazed that anyone would question their narrative, because they think their perspective is the only way to see the world.

For example, in 2005 Prime Minister Ariel Sharon unilaterally withdrew from Gaza and handed it over to Hamas.  That was the leftist Israeli solution to the “Gaza problem”.  Sharon wasn’t a leftist, but he supported their position on Gaza.

Israeli leftists will be quick to point out that Sharon didn’t actually “hand over” Gaza to Hamas.  He allowed Gazans to hold elections, and they chose their own leaders.

Hamas was the only party that had any chance of winning the election, but Israeli leftists are correct.  Technically, Gaza residents had to go through the charade of “voting” before Hamas took complete control of Gaza.

Since that fateful day, Israel has been in a constant state of war with Hamas.  Israel will continue to be in a state of war with Hamas until Hamas is crushed, but Israeli leftists are afraid that a more militant group could take control in Gaza if Hamas is removed.  Cutting to the chase, Israeli leftists are so paralyzed by the fear of what might happen that they ignore the fact that their solution is the cause of what is happening.

There is a lot more detail, but I won’t delve into it here.  It would take too long.

Let it suffice to say that leftists in Israel are smart, but they have a very narrow view of the world.  Talking with them about other perspectives than their own is fruitless, because they reject any perspective except their own without giving it serious consideration.

President Trump’s Peace Initiative

There has been no doubt about Palestinian’ intentions since President Trump took office and started fulfilling his promises.  For decades, candidates for U.S. president have routinely promised to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, but until Donald Trump became president, no one did it.

Promises Made, Promises Kept.

Most Israelis support President Trump.  Leftist Israelis don’t. They are in the minority. For years, leftist Israelis have treated Prime Minister Netanyahu like Democrats treat President Trump, but they can’t take him down.  March 2, 2020 is an important day in Israel.  That’s when the next election will be held.

Palestinians opposed President Trump before he moved the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.  That’s the Palestinian way.  Either you promise to do what they want, or they are against you.  They rejected the Trump peace plan and turned violent.  Two days ago, a ramming attack at The First Station in Jerusalem was part of their organized response.

See “Jerusalem: 12 soldiers wounded, one in critical condition in car-ramming attack”.

The First Station is near the intersection of Beit Lechem Road and Emek Refaim Street.  It’s a peaceful area where Jews, Muslims, and tourists congregate to relax and enjoy themselves.  The message was simple: No one is safe anywhere.

The First Station is on the left in the picture below.  You can’t see it in the picture, because it’s behind the trees.

Most likely, the driver of the vehicle in The First Station ramming attack came from Bethlehem, Beit Lechem.  It’s about 4 miles away, and it’s a hotbed of Palestinian terrorism.  I have driven through Beit Lechem on Highway 60, but I have never stopped there.  I don’t plan to visit Beit Lechem until Yahweh gives me specific instructions.

See “Poll: 62% of New Hampshire Dems Would Rather See a Meteor Kill All Life Than Trump Re-elected”.

As I said, Palestinians and Democrats are just alike.  Regrettably, so are leftist Israelis.

“Peace” Won’t Be What Most People Think It Is

In the end, Palestinians will be forced to accept peace terms that are acceptable to both sides.  I wish there was another way, but there isn’t.  Israel has made one concession after another for peace, but giving Palestinians an inch inspires them to demand a mile. We know that, because we have 27 years of experience with the Oslo Accords.  They have been a dismal failure since September 1993.

No peace treaty between Palestinians and Israel will lead to peace.  The peace treaty will lead to war, because Yahweh won’t allow Abraham’s heritage, the Promised Land, to be divided.  Still, there will be a peace treaty.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
