“Almost” Joe Manchin is a Disgrace

Joe Manchin, a Democrat senator from West Virginia, made headlines yesterday for suggesting that the Senate vote to censure President Trump.  Watch the video below:

A Brief Recap

  1. Democrats started planning for Donald Trump’s impeachment the day he won the 2016 presidential election.
  2. The Washington Post announced that impeachment was underway 20 minutes after President Trump was inaugurated.
  3. The so-called “Russia collusion scandal” was supposed to take down the Trump presidency in its infancy. Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel to conduct an investigation.  He employed a team of Hillary supporters to dig up dirt on the president.  They worked tirelessly for more than 2 years and spent about $40 million on their effort.  When the Mueller investigation ended, President Trump was exonerated.  Neither the president nor anyone working for his campaign was involved in Russia collusion.  Having failed to deliver the goods for his Democrat friends in Congress, Mueller threw them a bone.  He suggested that President Trump might have obstructed his investigation, because he had the audacity to defend himself.
  4. Throughout Mueller’s investigation, Adam Schiff (D-CA) was telling the nation that he had concrete evidence that President Trump colluded with the Russians. He said repeatedly that it was irrefutable evidence, but he wouldn’t reveal it.
  5. Following the release of Mueller’s report, Schiff continued to assert that he had irrefutable evidence against the president even though Mueller and his team could find no evidence of wrongdoing on the president’s part.
  6. Schiff started looking for another justification for impeaching President Trump. Miraculously, a so-called “whistleblower” emerged who charged the president with withholding funds from Ukraine until the newly elected President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced the opening of an investigation into Joe Biden’s corrupt activities in Ukraine.
  7. The impeachment investigation in the House got underway thanks to that allegation. After weeks of inquiry, the House Intelligence and Judiciary Committees could produce no evidence of wrongdoing on the president’s part.  The president was denied due process in the House.  He wasn’t allowed to call witnesses.  He wasn’t allowed to have his attorneys present during the questioning of witnesses.  He wasn’t allowed to cross-examine witnesses.  Even so, no witness that testified in the House produced any evidence that President Trump did anything wrong.
  8. Finally, the House voted to impeach the president for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The vote was bipartisan. Every Republican voted against both impeachment articles, and they were joined by a few Democrats.
  9. Nancy Pelosi refused to deliver the articles of impeachment to the Senate for trial for more than a month while she attempted to coerce the Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, into conducting a sham trial in the Senate like the sham investigation in the House. McConnell would not play along.
  10. Eventually, Pelosi was forced to deliver the articles of impeachment to the Senate. House impeachment managers presented their case for impeachment. They failed miserably, because there was no evidence of wrongdoing.  President Trump’s attorneys proved that the president is innocent.

The Senate will Vote to Acquit the President

The Senate will vote to acquit the president tomorrow.  To show bipartisanship in the Senate, Joe Manchin called for censuring the president for doing nothing wrong.

The Senate should vote to censure House Democrats for abusing the Constitution, for filing articles of impeachment against the president with no evidence supporting the charges, and for lying repeatedly during presentations in the Senate by House impeachment managers.  Manchin didn’t mention that option.

Joe Manchin is a disgrace.  Watch the video below.  It was taken during President Trump’s State of the Union speech.  He had just talked about achieving the lowest unemployment rate in the U.S. in more than 50 years.  Manchin wanted to stand and applaud, but he had second thoughts when he noticed that he was the only Democrat standing.

“Almost” Joe

Joe Manchin has been almost relevant several times during his Senate career.  Regrettably, he has never come through.

As I said, Joe Manchin is a disgrace.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
