Open Warfare Among Democrats in the House

See “AOC calls Nancy Pelosi ‘outright disrespectful’ for singling out women of color”:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continued her war of words with Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday night, calling the Speaker of the House “outright disrespectful” for criticizing women of color.

The Bronx Democrat was reacting to Pelosi’s repeated attempts at reigning in some of the more left-wing members of her caucus and chastising the freshman reps for tweeting too much.

“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Washington Post.

“But the persistent singling out — it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful — the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color.”

It’s a Catfight

This is rare, indeed. It’s not often that we get to watch an intra-party fight pour out into the public domain. I’ve been talking about the battle in SnyderTalk for a long time.

I don’t know how many Democrats have sent me messages telling me that they know nothing about the squabble. My response is as simple and polite as it can be. I say, “You vote for Democrats. Typical Democrat voters aren’t privy to the truth about Democrats. If they were, they wouldn’t vote for Democrats.”

This isn’t an ordinary intra-party squabble. It’s a catfight involving the oldest woman in the House who also happens to be Speaker of the House and one of the youngest members of the House who hasn’t figured out how to engage her brain and her mouth at the same time in a synchronized manner.

In my time, I’ve seen lots of neophyte legislators with huge egos and malfunctioning brains. They always get their comeuppance, but it’s usually in private. Obviously, Nancy Pelosi has tried to send AOC, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib the message privately, but the newcomers in the House refuse to listen.

It’s Out to the Woodshed

AOC, Omar, and Tlaib need an attitude adjustment.  Pelosi has had enough. She’s about to give them one.  Calling them out publicly didn’t work.  AOC responded by calling her a racist.

Actually, AOC didn’t use the word “racist”, but her response was crystal clear.  Pelosi understood it to mean that she has been called a racist.

In fairness to AOC, Omar, and Tlaib, narrative is all they have. Racist is one of the words they use to attack anyone who challenges them. Other words and phrases they use include white supremacist, misogynist, homophobe, and Islamophobe. There are others, but calling people racist is usually their first attack.

Unlike AOC, Omar, and Tlaib, Pelosi is not a neophyte. She’s a seasoned veteran. She knows how to wield power. When she lowers the hammer on them, it will be hard and swift. They have no idea what is heading their way.

You know that things have gone too far when the “liberal progressive” leader in the House has to take other “liberal progressives” in the House to the woodshed in public. This is a fight that Speaker Pelosi can’t lose and AOC and her comrades can’t win.

Enjoy the show.  As you watch it, remember that AOC, Omar, and Tlaib are guilty of telling us publicly what Democrat leaders are saying privately in the dark.  That’s a no-no.  If ordinary Americans knew where Democrats want to take our nation, they would reject all Democrats.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
