Where was Yahweh’s Temple located?
The location of Yahweh’s Temple is steeped in controversy. The Temple Mount is the traditional site of the Temple. According to tradition, the retaining wall around the Temple Mount complex was the Temple’s enclosure. The western side of the retaining wall includes a portion that is called the Kotel or the Western Wall. Today, Jewish people regard it as a holy site where they go to pray.
Most Jewish religious leaders believe Yahweh’s Temple was situated where the Dome of the Rock is today. It’s the most iconic structure in Jerusalem. Inside the Dome of the Rock is an exposed piece of bedrock upon which Jewish religious leaders believe the Ark of the Covenant sat inside the Holy of Holies.
Recently, competing theories about the Temple’s location have come to the forefront. Using the Bible and other historical documents as their guides, investigators place the Temple’s location south of the Temple Mount complex toward the City of David in what is called today the Archeological Park. Other theories place the Temple on Mount Zion near the Church of the Dormition and David’s Tomb.
I wish I could tell you that I know exactly where Yahweh’s Temple stood, but I can’t. Hopefully, in the days to come, I’ll be able to provide definitive proof about it’s location. I know this, though. The site of Yahweh’s Temple is not a mystery to Yahweh. He knows where it was and where it will be.
