The Killer Across the Table

Serial Killers

A few weeks ago, I listened to an interview with John Douglas, author of The Killer Across the Table.  In the early-1990s, I met John at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia during a consulting job, so I bought the book and read it.

John put together the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.  He studied thousands of horrendous murders trying to understand what makes serial killers and sex offenders tick.  His mission was to develop techniques to help law enforcement officials profile criminals based on the evidence they leave behind at crime scenes and apprehend the perpetrators.

John’s work is amazing.  See the articles below:

Falsely Accused

In 2006, Katie and I lived in Israel for a couple of months.  A few days before we left the U.S., I heard about a “double homicide” that occurred near us in Anderson, South Carolina.  I was busy getting ready to leave, so I didn’t pay close attention to news reports about the “crime”.  Even so, it got so much local radio, television, and newspaper coverage that I couldn’t help hearing and reading about it.

Two years later, a good friend from high school and college was in town.  We were busy playing golf, but I caught the gist of a report about the acquittal of a young woman who had been accused of double homicide.  I didn’t connect that verdict with the “crime” I had heard about earlier, but Yahweh woke me up in the middle of the night and told me to write a book about the incident.  The book is titled Falsely Accused.

Falsely Accused is based on an investigation that I conducted.  It presents the lurid details of a shooting that resulted in the death of a pregnant woman.  The baby was delivered postmortem and kept alive on machines for more than a month before she died.  The shooter was a young woman who was trying to help her pregnant friend.  The friend turned out to be a monster. The shooting was self-defense.

A Word of Warning

The Killer Across the Table and Falsely Accused are dark books.  They are loaded with the disturbing details of real crimes.  Neither book tries to sensationalize anything, but the details of the crimes are sensational.  You won’t be able to forget them easily.

Some People are Totally Depraved

If you read The Killer Across the Table and Falsely Accused, you will be forced to conclude that some people are totally depraved.  They can do things that most people wouldn’t dream of doing and not give it a second thought.

They are evil.  The things they do are cruel and shocking.  They may not be beyond hope, but they are as close to hopeless as anyone can get.

Having read one of those books and written the other, I have concluded that none of the crimes they discuss compare with abortion.  We know that life begins at conception.  That’s not a mystery.  So, abortion is the taking of an innocent life without due process.

For a myriad of reasons, we have decided that abortion should be legal.  That decision has no bearing on the humanity of unborn children.  It simply gives women the right to kill their unborn children without being guilty of a crime according to our laws.

Abortion is Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Abortion is cruel and unusual punishment of a live human being.  Cruel and unusual punishment is prohibited by the Eighth Amendment to the Constitution.

Abortion is legalized torture.  For example, dilation and evacuation (D&E) is one of the most common abortion procedures.  During the procedure, the child’s body is dismembered in the mother’s womb; it’s taken out of the womb a piece at the time; and the pieces are reassembled after the procedure to make sure all the baby’s parts are accounted for.  In some instances, the parts are sold for profit.  In most instances, they are discarded with the trash.

Partial-birth is another abortion procedure.  During the procedure, the abortion provider manipulates the baby’s body in the mother’s womb so that the baby’s feet come out first.  It’s an induced breech birth.  When the base of the baby’s head appears, the provider punches a hole in the base of the baby’s skull, inserts a vacuum tube, and sucks the baby’s brain out.

There are other abortion procedures, but I’ve made my point.  Abortion is cruel and unusual punishment.

What about rape and incest?

About 99% of abortions are performed for the convenience of the mother.  Rape and incest account for about 1% of abortions.  The rape and incest argument for making abortion legal is very weak.

Infanticide

Sometimes despite the best efforts of abortion providers to kill the child, a baby will come out of the procedure alive.  What to do with the live child is a current issue.  Right now, it’s legal to kill the child.

When is a baby considered a person under our law?

At this moment, a baby isn’t considered a person with legal rights until its head pops out of the womb.  That’s why during a partial-birth abortion the baby’s head is left in the birth canal while its brains are sucked out.

Things are changing.  Some women are pushing for the right to terminate a child’s life weeks, months, and even years after birth.  To normal people, that sounds like a lie, but it’s the truth.  If it’s legal to kill a baby after birth, how long a woman has to make that decision is open for discussion.

Could Sodom and Gomorrah have been any worse?

The short answer to that question is no.  The people of Sodom and Gomorrah were no worse than we are.  Yahweh destroyed them.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
