If I were a bird

Several years ago, I heard an interesting story.  It was a cold winter day.  The wind was howling.  The sky was dark.  The ground was covered by a thick layer of snow and ice.

A farmer was inside his warm house standing beside the window facing the barn.  He noticed several birds scratching for something to eat.  He could tell that they were hungry, tired, and cold.  He knew that they needed help or they might die.

Suddenly, the farmer had an idea.  He would open the barn doors so the birds could go inside.  There was plenty of hay on the ground and loose seeds in the dirt.  He went outside, opened the barn doors, and went back inside the house to see what would happen.

To his amazement, the birds didn’t understand what he had done for them.  They continued to scratch for food in the snow and ice.

Then he had another idea.  He said, “I’ll turn on the light in the barn.  That will get their attention.”

He went to the barn again and turned on the light, but it was no use.  The birds still didn’t get the message.

Then it hit him.  If I were a bird, he thought, I could tell them about the barn.  That would do it.

Consider this question: if Yahweh could become a man and save us, would He?

The answer is yes He would.  Yahweh could do it and He did it.

Switching Gears Slightly

While I was writing His Name is Yahweh, the mother of one of my Jewish students read each chapter as I wrote it.  She told me that she really enjoyed reading the book because it focuses primarily on the Old Testament/Tanach.

When I finished a chapter, I emailed it to her.  The next day, she emailed her comments to me.

I’ll never forget the day I emailed her the chapter titled “Yahweh Has a Human Form”.  I didn’t know what to expect, but the next day when I read her comment, my heart was lifted.

Her comment was very simple: “Yahweh really does have a human form.”

The Tanach is loaded with examples of Yahweh appearing to people in human form.  About that fact, there is no doubt.

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.

We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name.  We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
