Washington Post—Palestinian leader Abbas consolidates power and ousts rivals:

For beleaguered Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his aging coterie of loyalists, this was showtime.

Over the past six days, their Fatah political movement convened its long-overdue party congress, hoping to halt its slide in popularity at home and abroad by assuring people that the octogenarian Abbas and the old guard can lead the Palestinians toward a better future.

Abbas emerged Sunday night in firm control of his party, which nominally rules the Palestinian villages and towns of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. He nimbly sidelined rivals and blocked renegades who supported an exiled challenger.

Abbas and his allies took 16 of 18 seats up for election on the Fatah Central Committee. Abbas will appoint three more of its 21 members.

The delegates in their leather jackets and gray suits waved checkered scarfs and sang revolutionary songs for the Palestine TV cameras, but Abbas’s success means a continuation of the status quo.

In a two-hour speech to the delegates Wednesday, Abbas said that the way to achieve Palestinian aspirations is by international diplomacy, not armed struggle.

Although he praised Palestinian prisoners jailed for attacking or killing Israelis, he called for an “intifada of brains.”

Whether this will be enough to satisfy the younger generations who have grown tired of Abbas and the stalemate of almost 50 years of Israeli military occupation is unclear.

SnyderTalk Comment:

This article in the Washington Post misses the mark by a mile.  Its major problem stems from the fact that the writer has bought into the politically correct narrative of the day hook, line, and sinker.

For instance, the writer refers to “the Israeli-occupied West Bank”.  That expression evokes wartime images and suggests that “Palestinians” are victims of war.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  The Israeli people are victims of war, but with Yahweh’s protection, they have won every war they have fought.

The current crop of “Palestinian” leaders, Mahmoud Abbas in particular,  are using Yasser Arafat’s playbook.  He said,

“Since we cannot defeat Israel in war we do this in stages.  We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more.  When the time comes, we can get the Arab nations to join us for the final blow against Israel.” (Yasser Arafat speaking on Jordanian television, September 13, 1993—the same day the Oslo Peace Accord ceremony was held in Washington D.C.)

Arafat also said,

“Peace for us means the destruction of Israel.  We are preparing for an all-out war, a war which will last for generations.  Since January 1965, when Fatah was born, we have become the most dangerous enemy that Israel has….We shall not rest until the day when we return to our home, and until we destroy Israel.” (El Mundo, Caracas, Venezuela, February 11, 1980)

The world has believed Arafat’s lies.  That’s why political leaders globally are pressuring Israel to accept terms that Yahweh never will endorse, and that’s why there never will be peace.  Trying to impose peace only makes things worse.

Abbas is a liar.  While he tries to distance himself from the radical elements in his midst, he incites them to violence against innocent Israeli citizens.  The vehicle and knife attacks in Israel that have become the latest method of attack are being carried out with his strong approval.  So were the recent “Palestinian” arsonist attacks in Israel.  Theirs is a scorched earth policy.  Their goal is death and destruction.  As I said, peace is out of the question.

Barack Obama is the epitome of today’s fashionable Israel haters and politically correct anti-Semites.  He has spent the last 8 years promoting Islam and Islamists and castigating Christians and Jews.  Given the high perch from which he spouts forth, that’s a large part of the problem.  It helps to explain why the world is in such a mess today.

Calling out Obama and people like him is our duty.  We can’t accept their lies.  We need to expose them for who and what they are.

As I have said many times, the Democrat Party is a serious problem.  Its true adherents are Yahweh haters to the core.  That’s not a partisan political statement.  It’s a factual statement.

See “Most Democrats consider Israel is ‘a burden’ on US, has too much influence on policy, poll claims”.

Israel isn’t a burden that the U.S. is carrying, and U.S. policies are not overly influenced by Israel.  As a nation, it is our duty and our privilege to be a part of Yahweh’s plan.  If we fail to do our part, we will suffer.  In that sense, Israel is a blessing to us.

In the end, Yahweh will be victorious, but until He arrives on the scene, there will be trouble.  In the meantime, we reveal whose we are by the words we speak and the actions we take.  If we don’t believe Yahweh’s promises, we are not His people.  It’s as simple as that.

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.

We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name.  We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
