Cathy Young—The Totalitarian Doctrine of ‘Social Justice Warriors’:

The modern social justice movement, or the new “political correctness,” vaulted into the spotlight last year.  Student protests swept across campuses, with demands often focused on purging thought crime—leading to heated debates on whether this movement is a dangerous pseudo-progressive authoritarianism or a long-overdue effort to achieve justice for all. A year-in-review piece in The Daily Dot in late December proclaimed 2015 “the year of the social justice warrior.”

The Daily Dot author, graduate student and political columnist Michael Rosa, hailed this trend and urged liberals to “embrace the term.” Yet the accomplishments he invoked are, as the social justice crowd likes to say, problematic. His Exhibit A, the legalization of same-sex marriage, actually had very little to do with the current social justice movement; it was the result of two decades of very different, pragmatic activism that focused on a clear goal—the legal right to marry—and stressed equality, not gay identity. And #BlackLivesMatter, also a movement with a specific focus—police violence toward African-Americans—has been arguably hurt, not helped, by PC dogma that suppresses discussion of thorny issues such as black-on-black crime and attacks “insensitive” dissenting speech (Amherst protesters demanded disciplinary action against students who had put up “All Lives Matter” posters).

Unfortunately, Mr. Rosa’s other examples of “social justice” in action—the feminist revival, the new visibility of transgender issues, and opposition to “Islamophobia”—are squarely in train-wreck territory. Not that there’s anything wrong with the principles: most Americans support gender equality, believe transgender people should be able to live as they wish, and reject anti-Muslim hate. But social justice warriors have turned these causes into malignant self-parody. Their feminism frets over men sitting with their legs apart on public transit, seeks dissent-free “safe spaces,” and cries oppression at concern about obesity’s health risks. Their transgender advocacy demands respect for customized gender identities with personal pronouns that may change on a whim and crucifies a devoutly progressive filmmaker for a “transphobic” joke which presumes that that female characters are anatomically female. Their anti-Islamophobia trashes feminist critics of conservative Islamism and victim-blames journalists murdered for publishing Mohammed cartoons.

SnyderTalk Comment: I wish Cathy Young didn’t feel the need to write an article like this one.

I differ with Young on many points, but I support her thesis.  I wish that I didn’t feel the need to post her column in SnyderTalk and comment on it.

Forget feelings.  They don’t matter as much as reality.

This is the reality: political correctness is a pernicious problem that is growing like Topsy.  We need to obliterate it.

The novel 1984 is worth the read.  It describes a “utopian” society where the rulers have determined what is permissible for the citizenry.  That’s where we are today.

Global warming is destroying our planet?  Nope.  That’s nonsense, but it’s politically correct.

Overpopulation means people are starving? Nope. That’s hogwash, but it’s politically correct. Far too many people  are starving, but it’s not because there are too many of us.

Unborn babies are just tissue?  Nope.  That’s anti-science and absurd, but it’s politically correct.

The LGBT movement is about acceptable alternate lifestyles?  Nope.  It’s about mainstreaming perversion, but it’s politically correct.

Islamists aren’t Muslims?  Nope.  That’s ridiculous, but it’s politically correct.

As we move toward the 2016 presidential election, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump stand out in my mind as people who have been willing to call things as they are.  Some have accused them of shameless populism, but I don’t buy it.

I’m not endorsing either candidate at this point, but they are light-years ahead of their Democrat counterparts.  Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and people who think the way they do are huge parts of the problem.

I wish I could say that the Republican Party is guiltless, but that’s a lie.  They are responsible, too.  Establishment Republicans are opposed to Cruz and Trump because they are willing to tell the truth about them.

Telling the truth wins political support.  Wouldn’t it be great if more politicians did it?

Elections matter.  2016 is an important year.

The Daily CallerThe US Mosque Obama Has Chosen For His First Presidential Visit Has Deep Extremist Ties: The Baltimore mosque President Obama has chosen as the first U.S.-based mosque to visit during his presidency has deep ties to extremist elements, including to the Muslim Brotherhood. The White House announced on Saturday that Obama will visit the Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB) on Wednesday. He has visited several mosques overseas as president but has resisted visiting one in the homeland. The purpose of the trip, according to the White House, is to “celebrate the contributions Muslim Americans make to our nation and reaffirm the importance of religious freedom to our way of life.” But ISB is a curious choice for Obama’s first domestic visit. The mosque is a member of a network of mosques controlled by the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), a Muslim civil rights group named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2008 Holy Land Foundation terror case. Several executives with that organization were convicted of sending money to aid the terrorist group Hamas.

SnyderTalk Comment: Maybe it’s a vetting problem, or maybe it tells us about our president.

I think it’s the latter.

Steven Emerson—Obama’s Dubious Mosque Choice: Barack Obama is scheduled to visit the Islamic Society of Baltimore (ISB) today, his first visit to a U.S. mosque since becoming president. ISB leaders have amassed a record of support for radical Islamic causes over the years, including endorsing the Chechen jihad and Palestinian suicide bombings. Its former imam was active in a charity later linked to terror financing including Hamas, the Taliban, and for providing “hundreds of thousands of dollars” to Osama bin Laden.

SnyderTalk Comment: Bowing to my friends who like Obama (yes, I have a few of them), if he’s not an idiot, he’ll do until the real thing gets here.

CNNObama to rebut GOP Muslim rhetoric in first US mosque visit: Seeking to rebut what he views as perilous election-year bombast about Muslims, President Barack Obama heads Wednesday to a mosque in Baltimore, his first visit to such a site in the United States.

SnyderTalk Comment: The train has left the station.  Most people are awake now.  Only idiots and Obama supporters don’t get it.  He’s talking to them.

CNNObama rebuts anti-Muslim rhetoric in first U.S. mosque visit: Seeking to rebut what he views as perilous election-year bombast about Muslims, President Barack Obama is at a mosque in Baltimore on Wednesday, his first visit to such a site in the United States. “Muslim Americans keep up safe,” Obama told the audience, crediting the contributions Muslims have made to communities. “They are our police. They are our fire fighters. They’re in (the Department of) Homeland Security.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Barack Obama thinks like a small child.  “Ordinary peaceful Muslims” aren’t really Muslims.  That’s a fact.

If they have doubts, they should ask ISIS types, but they should be very careful.  They may find out in a hurry that they aren’t as Muslim as they think they are.

Israel HayomUS busts Hezbollah drug, money laundering scheme: The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced on Monday that an international operation had led to the arrests of members of a Hezbollah cell in Europe involved in drug trafficking and money laundering. According to the DEA, the Lebanese terrorist group uses the money it makes from the sale of cocaine in the U.S. and Europe to fund the purchase of weapons for use in Syria, where Hezbollah is fighting to preserve the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Times of Israel2 policewomen badly hurt in attack in Jerusalem’s Old City: One policewoman was killed and a second badly wounded when three Palestinians shot and stabbed them outside Damascus Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City on Wednesday afternoon. The three, identified by the Palestinian news agency Ma’an as Ahmed Abou Al-Roub, Mohammed Kameel and Mohammed Nassar, all hailing from the northern West Bank, arrived at the scene armed with apparently locally fabricated “Carl Gustav” rifles, knives and two pipe bombs, police said. Police initially suspected a third item found at the scene was a bomb, but sappers determined it was an abandoned bag.

Elliott Abrams—Palestinian torture produces no outrage: The invaluable group Palestine Media Watch reported on Sunday on torture in Palestinian detention centers in the West ‎Bank and Gaza. PMW carries an investigative report from the Maan news agency, of which the key ‎portion is:‎  “General Director of the Independent Commission for Human Rights Dr. Ammar Dwaik ‎explained that torture like ‘whippings, hanging a person from his hands while they are tied ‎behind his back, verbal abuse, sleep deprivation and whipping the soles of feet’ is being ‎carried out in Palestinian detention centers by individuals despite the fact that it is against ‎the law. The report stated that this happens with the knowledge of PA security forces.‎”

SnyderTalk Comment: That’s the Palestinian state that Western liberals love to endorse.  I wish we could force them to live in a state like that for a while as punishment for being so foolish.

The country they love to hate, Israel, is just the opposite.  It’s a great place to live and visit.

Bassam Tawil—Who Can Believe Mahmoud Abbas?: After Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas threatened yet again that he would end security coordination with Israel, not only has he not ended it, but — luckily for him, as it turned out — it is now stronger than ever. The Israelis, it seems, exposed two separate Hamas networks in the West Bank, both of them planning a mass-casualty attack on Israel and the destruction of the rule of Mahmoud Abbas. Mahmoud Abbas’ other threat, that he will dissolve the Palestinian Authority (PA), and force Israel to fill the resulting vacuum and incorporate its residents and territories into Israel, also turned out to be cow plop.

Israel HayomPolice seek to bolster presence in Arab sector: The Israel Police seeks to bolster its presence in the Arab sector by enlisting 1,350 additional policemen and setting up 10 new police stations nationwide, Israel Hayom learned Tuesday. The cost of the plan, which is part of an overall government plan to increase governance in the Arab sector, is estimated at 800 million shekels ($200 million). A special ministerial committee headed by Immigrant Absorption Minister Zeev Elkin and Tourism Minister Yariv Levin will oversee the plan’s implementation. Increased presence on the ground is part of the police’s plan to streamline law enforcement efforts in the Arab sector, especially concerning construction law.

Adam Levick—The Sunday Times, the Holocaust and Israel: Have the Persecuted Become the Persecutors?: In 2013, David Ward (who was then an British MP for Bradford East) faced intense criticism from the CST and other anti-racist and Holocaust education campaigners, when he wrote the following in reference to Holocaust Memorial Day. Having visited Auschwitz twice –once with my family and once with local schools – I am saddened that the Jews, who suffered unbelievable levels of persecution during the Holocaust, could within a few years of liberation from the death camps be inflicting atrocities on Palestinians in the new State of Israel and continue to do so on a daily basis in the West Bank and Gaza.

The TelegraphIsil ‘wants its own navy for attacks on cruise ships in the Mediterranean’: Islamic State militants hope to build a maritime arm that could carry out attacks in the Mediterranean, a senior Nato Naval officer has warned. The march of Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (Isil) along the Libyan coast has cast an “uncomfortable shadow” across shipping said Vice-Adml Clive Johnstone. The spread of sophisticated Russian and Chinese weapons to armed groups in the region also means there is now the “horrible opportunity” a cruise liner or container ship could be hit, the commander of Nato’s maritime command warned. Libya’s collapse into chaos and Isil’s seizure of the coastal city of Sirte has prompted alarm in Europe, with countries including Britain and Italy considering sending thousands of troops to train local forces.

Middle East EyeLeading Saudi cleric says IS and Saudi Arabia ‘follow the same thought’: A former imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca has said that the Islamic State (IS) group follows the same brand of Islam as officially espoused by Saudi Arabia. Footage translated by British think tank Integrity UK on Wednesday showed leading cleric Sheikh Adel al-Kalbani speaking to the Dubai-based channel MBC about what he believes are the roots of IS. “We follow the same thought [as IS] but apply it in a refined way,” he said. “They draw their ideas from what is written in our own books, from our own principles.”

SnyderTalk Comment: People need help to be confused.  If that’s true, why are so many people confused?

Here’s the answer: it’s a spiritual war, and a very large number of people don’t recognize the spiritual realm.  As far as they are concerned, it doesn’t exist.

How wrong they are.

The IndependentWar in Syria: Russia’s ‘rustbucket’ military delivers a hi-tech shock to West and Israel: Their army’s equipment and strategy was “outmoded”; their air force’s bombs and missiles were “more dumb than smart”; their navy was “more rust than ready”. For decades, this was Western military leaders’ view, steeped in condescension, of their Russian counterparts. What they have seen in Syria and Ukraine has come as a shock. Russian military jets have, at times, been carrying out more sorties in a day in Syria than the US-led coalition has done in a month. The Russian navy has launched ballistic missiles from the Caspian Sea 900 miles way, and kept supply lines going to Syria. The air defences installed by the Russians in Syria and eastern Ukraine would make it extremely hazardous for the West to carry out strikes against the Assad regime or Ukrainian separatists.

SnyderTalk Comment: That’s not what Obama says.  Who are we to believe?

Marcus Weisgerber—Pentagon Running Low on Smart Bombs for ISIS Campaign: The Pentagon is starting to run low on the smart bombs and guided missiles it has used in the 9,000-plus airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria over the past 18 months, U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said Tuesday. Because of that, President Barack Obama will ask Congress next week to approve $1.8 billion to buy 45,000 new bombs. The spending request is part of $7.5 billion the Pentagon says it will need to bomb ISIS and train Iraqi security forces in 2017. “This will be critical as our updated coalition military campaign plan takes hold,” Carter said of the request for the Pentagon’s war chest.

SnyderTalk Comment: Maybe the feds can trade food stamps for armaments.

Have you ever noticed that people who pay for groceries with food stamps tend to be obese?  I have.

Doesn’t that raise questions in your mind about the effectiveness of our welfare programs in general?  It’s does for me.

How can obese people be living in poverty?  That’s what our government is telling us.  It makes no sense to me.

I’ve heard their arguments.  As I said, they make no sense.

Jerusalem PostHamas operatives pose as medical patients to infiltrate Israel: Israel Police and Shin Bet [Israel Security Agency] arrested two Hamas operatives who had entered Israel from Gaza on forged medical documents. The pair were arrested on January 7, however,  the information was only cleared for release on Monday. After entering Israel, Mahmoud Matok, 31, along with his father, 51, escaped from hospital and traveled to Umm al-Fahm in northern Israel, where they were arrested. Both men hailed from the Jabalya refugee camp located in the northern Gaza Strip.

Ishaan Tharoor—A very French idea to fight terrorism: Allow high-schoolers to smoke: The terror threat in France is real. Just months after militants affiliated with the Islamic State wreaked carnage in the heart of Paris, French authorities claimed to have arrested five people linked to the jihadist group. The suspects had reportedly bought bus tickets to journey to Syria and also had plans to attack a series of nightclubs in the city of Lyon. There are widespread concerns about radical elements infiltrating France’s borders as well as the radicalization of France’s own Muslim youth, some of whom chafe against a society where they feel marginalized and alienated.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
