Isaiah 46: 5-6—“To whom would you liken Me and make Me equal and compare Me, that we would be alike? Those who lavish gold from the purse and weigh silver on the scale hire a goldsmith, and he makes it into a god; they bow down, indeed they worship it.”

Shalu shalom Yerushalayim: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. (Psalm 122: 6)

“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.” (Anonymous)

#####

“On Tuesday, Prime Minister Netanyahu’s senior cabinet ministers convened in Jerusalem but did not even take up a package of security guarantees being offered by the U.S. in return for Israel’s extending a freeze on the construction of settlements in the West Bank by 60 days, officials said. The Palestinians, meanwhile, rejected a U.S. proposal that they keep negotiating without an extension in return for an American offer to formally endorse a Palestinian state based on the borders of Israel before the 1967 Middle East war.”

#####

“Dennis Ross, a longtime Middle East expert, has emerged as a crucial, behind-the-scenes conduit between the White House and the Israeli government to discreetly smooth out differences and disputes. Ross’s role is highly sensitive because it might be seen as undercutting the mission of George Mitchell, President Obama’s special envoy for Middle East peace. It was Ross – a senior director for Middle East policy on the White House staff – who worked with Prime Minister Netanyahu’s private attorney Yitzhak Molcho and Defense Minister Ehud Barak on a package of incentives that the Obama administration is offering Netanyahu to extend a settlement moratorium.”

#####

“The new conditions proposed by the Israeli prime minister to the U.S. administration for a freeze on settlement construction for a specific period of time – thus leading to a resumption of the peace talks – demonstrate why we had been calling on the Palestinian president to continue negotiations. This newspaper reported Monday that Netanyahu would agree to extend the settlement freeze for a period of two months on the condition that the Obama administration pledges to refrain from calling for a new extension, for construction to continue on the settlement projects that have already begun, and for Washington to agree to Israeli troops being stationed in the Jordan Rift Valley as part of any final peace agreement.”

#####

“Prime Minister Netanyahu passed the decision to freeze construction in the West Bank for 10 months and kept his promise not to extend it “a day longer.” It had been assumed this concession would give him the required time to conduct direct talks with the Palestinians. But they, as is their custom, again proved they miss no opportunity to miss an opportunity. When the end of the 10-month freeze approached, the Palestinians demanded a two-month extension. Otherwise, they will not resume the direct talks. Why? Because that’s the Palestinian leadership – painting itself into a corner and not knowing how to get out of it.”

#####

“A 2009 poll shows that 71% of Palestinians deem it essential that their state comprise all of Israel and the territories. (Only 17% of Israelis deem it essentially that their state control all that land.) From the Palestinian perspective, Israel is a colonial state that was suddenly dropped on their head as a result of European crimes. Most Palestinians seem to think, like Helen Thomas said, that the fair solution is for the Jews to go back to Europe.”

#####

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is now in political limbo after having staked his career on the questionable proposition that a viable Palestinian state can be achieved through negotiations with Israel.”

#####

“The travel advisory issued on Sunday by the US State Department in Washington is neither standard, nor exaggerated. It is based on concrete intelligence from agencies in the US, Pakistan, Britain, France, and Germany. A picture has come together in recent days justifying the warning and the beefed up security measures in Europe.”

“Does Anwar al-Awlaki deserve to die? Would it be good for America and the world if, through some combination of fate, luck, justice and the arsenal of democracy, his heart stopped beating tomorrow? Does Barack Obama have America’s best interests at heart when he endeavors to make that happen?”

#####

“At the risk of sounding melodramatic, I just wonder: If a president – any president – has the authority to order the assassination of a U.S. citizen without oversight, what exactly can’t a president do?”

#####

“The vote on HR 2378, which would authorize punitive tariffs on Chinese exports to the United States — which include everything from clothing, furniture, and toys to refrigerators, computers, and sporting goods — was a lopsided 348 to 79. It was accompanied by equally unbalanced congressional rhetoric. ‘They cheat to steal our jobs,’ fumed Mike Rogers of Michigan, while California’s Dana Rohrabacher denounced the Chinese as a ‘clique of gangsters.’”

#####

“The ‘comedian Congress,’ which recently brought in Stephen Colbert to testify, voted on this measure to solidify the Democratic base and create an issue for next month’s election. And the joke is on you.”

#####

“With four weeks until Congressional elections that will shape the remainder of his term, President Obama is increasingly focused on generating enthusiasm within the base that helped put him in the White House two years ago, from college students to African-Americans.”

#####

“With a month to go before California voters decide whether to legalize marijuana, Proposition 19’s opponents have pinned their hopes on desperate arguments that illustrate the intellectual bankruptcy of the prohibitionist position. Unable to offer a persuasive moral justification for continuing to treat marijuana users and suppliers like criminals, the No on 19 crowd has tried to distract voters’ attention with several bright red herrings. Here are five of the smelliest.”

#####

“Although much of the Republicans’ “Pledge to America” is given over to a discussion of economic issues, there is one topic that is never mentioned: the dramatic rise in income inequality. As with global warming, Republicans seem to have decided that the best way to deal with this fundamental challenge is to deny it exists.”

#####

“When Obamacare was debated, we free-market advocates insisted that no matter what the president promised, the laws of economics cannot be repealed. Our opponents in effect answered, ‘Yes, we can.’”

#####

“If Dems are going to avert a major bloodbath in November, they need independents to embrace two core Dem messages that seem particularly geared towards those voters: The claim that a vote for the GOP is a vote to return to Bush policies; and the assertion that the GOP has been hijacked by whack job Tea Party extremists.”

#####

“With 62 percent of its state and local workers organized, New Jersey has the second-highest level of public-sector unionization in the country, behind only New York, according to unionstats.com.”

#####

“As hard as pollsters try, it is almost impossible to glean a sample of actual likely voters in an off-year election. Particularly this year, it is difficult to distinguish between dutiful voters who say they are likely to vote and those who are actually going to make it to the polls. As in any off-year election, turnout matters.”

#####

“After 18 years in Washington, Russ Feingold remains the senator who has built his career and his voting record around (hat tip: Oscar Wilde) the importance of being earnest. High-minded, idiosyncratic and sometimes exasperating to his fellow Democrats, the 57-year-old Feingold was the only senator to vote against the Patriot Act in the wake of the 9/11 attacks and this year was the only Democrat to oppose Barack Obama’s Wall Street reform act, arguing that it was not tough enough.”

“If Americans are angry at Washington, it may be because of episodes like the federal coddling of OneUnited Bank. A minority-owned institution with close ties to Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) of the House Financial Services Committee, OneUnited got $12 million from the Troubled Assets Relief Program in December 2008, thanks in part to a provision inserted in the TARP bill by the committee’s chairman, Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.). OneUnited has since failed to pay the government the $900,000 it owes – not surprising, given its history of mismanagement, which TARP officials elided to approve the money in the first place.”

#####

“The marching band, the tailgate parties, the chill in the air and even fireworks when the home team scored a touchdown—all the trappings of a perfect college football game created a magical parent’s weekend on our daughter’s university campus.”

#####

“A month before the midterm elections comes a White House report trumpeting low levels of alleged ‘fraud’ in the $862 billion stimulus. Some say government’s deficit-driving money express could even serve as a ‘model’ for better government efficiency.  That’s called ‘suspension of disbelief,’ much like a movie fantasy. And Americans are in no mood for it.”

#####

“Roth IRA contributions are made with after-tax dollars. Because you’ve already paid income taxes, you can always withdraw the contributions to your Roth IRA tax and penalty free at any time. That’s the simple part. But the beauty of a Roth is that the earnings can also be tax and penalty free. And that’s where distributions can get more complicated.”

#####

“The uncomfortable truth is that many – not most, but many – Democratic politicians and Democratic voters saw political benefit in an American defeat in Iraq. Many, including Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle, then boss of Obama’s new chief of staff Pete Rouse, thronged to the Washington premiere of Michael Moore’s ‘Fahrenheit 9/11.’ They tried to give every appearance of agreeing with the ‘Bush-lied-people-died’ crowd and with those who charged that high-ranking officials colluded in systematic torture.”

#####

“Two first ladies will hit the campaign trail for Democrats this month: Michelle Obama, champion of ordinary Americans, and Michelle Obama, money-grubber for the liberal elite. The actions of the second Michelle will tell you all you need to know about the lip service of the first.”

#####

“Beltway – a dog owner – has been secretly judgy for some time now about the leash-handling skills of the Obama family. Bo the dog, while winsome (and far less crabby than that awful Barney) appears to lack a certain demeanor that would ah, suggest a docile and well-trained member of the administration.”

#####

“Some of the longest-serving members of Congress, whose party has overwhelming majorities in both houses, are having far closer election races than they are used to. These include Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, not to mention 18-year veteran Senator Barbara Boxer.”

#####

“Some might assume that the idea of a Rahm Emanuel candidacy for mayor would be cause for celebration along Devon Avenue, the longtime rialto of Chicago’s Jewish community.”

#####

“American presidents have advanced redistributionist policies before, but none has used Marxist class-war rhetoric as routinely as Barack Obama.”

#####

“It finally happened. A board of trustees at a state university has acted as if it had a moral trust to guard, not just fundraising to do. That’s the remarkable news out of the University of Illinois, where the board is chaired by Christopher Kennedy, son of the late Robert F. Kennedy. His father, the charismatic U.S. senator, brother of John F. Kennedy, and the Democratic Party’s rising hope, was cut down in his hour of triumph – June 5, 1968 – after just having won a key presidential primary in California.”

#####

“Last week Congress had the opportunity to prevent tax increases. Unfortunately, liberals in Congress only want tax cuts for some people and want to raise taxes on the rest. They also refuse to even consider any plan that extends relief to small businesses and other people who actually create jobs. And because the Obama-Pelosi-Reid team couldn’t find enough support for their Class Warfare Act of 2010 (which was never an actual bill, just a dream), they threw a hissy fit and adjourned the Congress.”

#####

“I’ve noticed a national discussion lately about young folks taking longer to grow up.”

#####

“Britain’s Conservatives are keen to emphasize their commitment to improving opportunities for poor and marginalized communities, and social action projects such as the refurbishment of a dilapidated building in a hardscrabble suburb of Birmingham – Britain’s second-largest conurbation – give party members the opportunity to translate rhetoric into action. During the party’s four-day annual conference in the city, delegates got down and dirty in a concerted effort to transform the building into a community center that will be the base for five local women’s groups. The Baroness was just one in a parade of Tory top brass, up to and including Prime Minister David Cameron, to make a contribution.”

#####

“A vitriolic and very public war of words between Belarus and Russia has observers wondering whether the Kremlin is finally preparing to abandon its long time support for Belarussian leader Alexander Lukashenko, who is usually remarked of in the East as ‘Russia’s only ally’ and in the West as ‘Europe’s last dictator.’”

A Primer on the Bilderberg Group.

The Bilderberg Group was created in 1954 to improve relations between Western European leaders and leaders in the US and “to foster cooperation on political, economic, and defense issues”.  The Bilderberg Group holds meetings annually on an invitation only basis.  Invitees typically include politicians, bankers, and directors of large businesses.

The 2009 Bilderberg Group meeting in Greece included the following invitees:

  • Greek prime minister Kostas Karamanlis
  • Finnish prime minister Matti Vanhanen
  • Sweden foreign minister Carl Bildt
  • U.S. State Department number two James Steinberg
  • U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner
  • World Bank president Robert Zoellick
  • European Commission head José Manuel Barroso
  • Queen Sofia of Spain
  • Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Below are more details on Bilderberg Group meeting attendees over the years.  I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this information, so I have included sources at the end if you want to delve more deeply into the Bilderberg Group:

Royalty:

United States:

Presidents:

Financial Institutions:

Major Corporations:

According to Daniel Estulin, veteran Bilderberg researcher and bestselling author, the top 10 issues discussed at the group’s 2010 annual meeting in Spain were:

  1. Will the Euro Survive?
  2. Development in Europe: Europe’s Exit Strategy…On Hold?
  3. Do We Have Institutions to Deal With the World Economy?
  4. Greece: Lessons and Forward-looking Strategies
  5. NATO and Afghanistan: The Practical Agenda for the Alliance
  6. Iran and Russia: Economic and Financial Threats to the Alliance
  7. The Consequences of War against Terrorism
  8. The Influence of Domestic Issues on American Foreign Policy
  9. The Outlook for Japan’s Economy
  10. The Future of the U.S. Dollar: Alternative Scenarios

According to BilderbergGroup.net, “The Bilderberg Secretariat proclaims the conferences to be ‘…private in order to encourage frank and open discussion’. Frank and open discussion is a good thing in any forum but when those doing the discussing are some of the very most powerful financiers and media tycoons in the world it begs the question: If what they discuss is for the good of ordinary people why not publicise it! Isn’t it a perverted use of the word ‘open’ when no-one can find out what they’re saying?”

That’s a good question.  When a small group of powerful, wealthy, and influential people meet to “discuss” the future of the world, eyebrows are raised, and conspiracy theorists have a heyday.  Why wouldn’t they want to publicize the details of their deliberations?  At the very least, they could avoid the obvious criticism that they are attempting to “chart a course for the world”.

The concerns of ordinary people are justified.  Bilderberg Group attendees control vast resources and exert considerable influence yet they haven’t been elected.  They’ve been selected because of their wealth and/or power.  Their meetings to discuss the world are sure to arouse suspicion.

According to BilderbergGroup.net, “When such rich and powerful people meet up in secret, with military intelligence managing their security, with hardly a whisper escaping of what goes on inside, people are right to be suspicious. But the true power of Bilderberg comes from the fact that participants are in a bubble, sealed off from reality and the devastating implications on the ground of the black-science economic solutions on the table.  No, it’s not a ‘conspiracy’. The world’s leading financiers and foreign policy strategists don’t get together at Bilderberg to draw up their ‘secret plans for the future’. It’s subtler than that. These meetings create an artificial ‘consensus’ in an attempt to spellbind visiting politicians and other men of influence. (Tony) Blair has fallen for this hook, line and sinker. It’s about reinforcing – often to the very people who are on the edge of condemning Globalisation – the illusion that Globalisation is ‘good’, ‘popular’ and that it’s inevitable.”

I’ve provided this material for one reason—to give you information concerning a group about which you may have heard.  If you haven’t heard about the Bilderberg Group, this will simply be food for thought.  If pays to be informed.
