Today’s Feature
The institution of a “New Covenant” is Yahweh’s most significant promise. The use of the word “new” suggests two things: first that there is an “Old Covenant,” and second that the old one has been fulfilled or completed. By definition, the Old Covenant must have been completed, or the New Covenant could not take effect.
Christians may not appreciate how offensive these remarks may be to some of our Jewish brothers and sisters, but they shouldn’t be disturbed at all. Yahweh said it Himself. Take a look at your Tanach—Jeremiah 31: 31-33. If you are a Christian and you are not familiar with the Tanach, it’s the Old Testament.
“‘Behold, days are coming,’ declares Yahweh, ‘when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them,’ declares Yahweh. ‘But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,’ declares Yahweh, ‘I will put my Law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.’” (Jeremiah 31: 31-33)
This is the same covenant Yahweh referred to when He spoke these words about the Messiah through the prophet Isaiah:
“‘Behold, My Servant, whom I uphold; My chosen One in whom My soul delights, I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring forth justice to the nations. He will not cry out or raise His voice, nor make His voice heard in the street. A bruised reed He will not break and a dimly burning wick He will not extinguish; He will faithfully bring forth justice. He will not be disheartened or crushed until He has established justice on the earth; and the coastlands will wait expectantly for His Law.’ Thus says Yahweh God, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it, ‘I am Yahweh, I have called You in righteousness, I will also hold You by the hand and watch over You, and I will appoint You as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations (i.e., the Goyim or Gentiles), to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon and those who dwell in darkness from the prison. I am Yahweh, that is My Name; I will not give My glory to another, nor My praise to graven images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, now I declare new things; before they spring forth I proclaim them to You.’” (Isaiah 42: 1-9)
Yahweh told Jeremiah this Person’s Name—see Jeremiah 23: 5-6. His Name is Yahweh Tsidkenu.

Fact is Stranger than Fiction
Only a demented soul or an ignorant boob would even dare to sling an incendiary label such as “apartheid” at a country that is simply trying to protect its citizens from lunatic, homicide bombers and despotic Islamofascists? Unfortunately, Desmond Tutu from South Africa is one such person: click here. He thinks Israel is to blame because the Jewish people who live in Israel don’t like seeing their loved ones being murdered. If Tutu would do a little homework, he would see that the destruction of Israel has been the goal of Arab militants since 1948. They tried everything they could think of to destroy Israel, but they failed at every turn until they decided to play the victim following the Six Day War in 1967. That’s when the Arabs realized that they couldn’t defeat Israel on the battlefield. The Yom Kippur War in 1973 convinced all the doubters. That’s when they decided to play David to Israel’s Goliath.
Desmond Tutu
Israel is a tiny sliver of a country with about 6 million Jewish people. Israel is surrounded by more than 300 million Arabs who control more than 15% of the entire world’s land mass. The Arab people who live in squalor have had to accept what can only be described as third world living conditions so their leaders can live lavish lifestyles while they devote their time and attention to demolishing Israel. Truth is Israel is still David and her Arab neighbors are the lumbering Philistine, Goliath. It’s too bad the world can’t see the truth. As you know, fact really is stranger than fiction.

BIG LIES
A Dry Bones cartoon from 1991 is still relevant today because almost 20 years later, nothing has changed. “If only Israel and the Palestinians would make peace, then there would be peace in the Middle East” says one of the people in the cartoon. It’s a patently absurd lie, yet people still believe it.
Today, whether we are facing crude lies about supposed “organ theft” or sophisticated lies about so-called “Apartheid practices,” they are all examples of the Big Lies that Goebbels advocated. His claims were so outrageous that no one would believe them…but they did believe him then, and many believe the lies people are telling today.
As advocates for Israel, we have to counter the lies and still find time and resources to project the truth about Israel and the Middle East. A new year is on the horizon, and with it comes the challenge to replace falsehood with fact.
My name is David Olesker and I can provide you with the skills you need to meet these challenges. My advocacy training workshops have benefitted the staff of organizations like AIPAC and the ADL, as well as student and community activists from around the world.
I’ll be in North America from November 8 through 18, 2009. If you are interested in bringing me to your campus, community, or organization, please contact me to discuss available dates, fees, and content.
