Yahweh’s Promises Concerning the Promised Land

Introductory Comment

As you read this material, keep in mind that this is the land about which people are talking right now.  World leaders are doing their best to force Israel to surrender land that Yahweh promised to give the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob and everyone who calls on the Name of Yahweh.  Yahweh will never go back on His Word, and His promises are certain.  Candidly, I would not want to stand in Yahweh’s way as He fulfills His promises.  I want to be on His side.  I hope you do too. Before you examine Yahweh’s promises, enjoy the video below:

The Promised Land

When Abraham entered the Promised Land he was traveling with his nephew, Lot.  They were men of great wealth, and they had very large herds of animals.  Since the land could not support the herds of both men, Abraham suggested that they separate, and he told Lot to take the land he wanted.  Lot looked at the valley below the hills on which Jerusalem rests, and he saw that it was well watered and very fertile.  Thus, he took the valley for his possession, and Abraham willingly accepted the hilly region that includes Mount Moriah—the hill beside which Jerusalem was built.

After Abraham and Lot parted company, Yahweh made this promise to Abraham:

“Now lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward; for all the land which you see, I will give it to you and to your descendants forever.  I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth, so that if anyone can number the dust of the earth, then your descendants can also be numbered.  Arise, walk about the land through its length and breadth; for I will give it to you.” (Genesis 13: 14-17)

In Genesis 15: 18-21, Yahweh gave Abraham a more precise description of the Promised Land’s boundaries:

“To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt (the Nile River) as far as the great river Euphrates; the land of the Kenite and the Kenizzite and the Kadmonite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Rephaim and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Girgashite and the Jebusite.”

Later, Yahweh told Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, and He confirmed that the Promised Land would belong to his descendants forever:

“For My part, this is My covenant with you: you will become the father of many nations.  And you are no longer to be called Abram; your name is to be Abraham, for I am making you father of many nations, and your issue will be kings.  And I shall maintain my covenant between Myself and you, and your descendants after you, generation after generation, as a covenant in perpetuity, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.  And to you and to your descendants after you, I shall give the country where you are now immigrants, the entire land of Canaan, to own in perpetuity.  And I will be their God.” (Genesis 17: 4-8)

Then Yahweh explained that even though Abraham would become the father of many nations, His covenant would pass through Isaac’s descendants:

“As regards your wife…Sarah….I shall bless her and moreover give you a son by her.  I shall bless her and she will become nations: kings of peoples will issue from her….Yes, your wife Sarah will bear you a son whom you must name Isaac.  And I shall maintain My covenant with him, a covenant in perpetuity, to be his God and the God of his descendants after him.  For Ishmael too I grant you your request.  I hereby bless him and will make him fruitful and exceedingly numerous.  He will be the father of twelve princes, and I shall make him into a great nation.  But my covenant I shall maintain with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear you….” (Genesis 17: 15-16 and 19-21)

A “covenant in perpetuity” is binding for all eternity.  That means the Promised Land belongs to Abraham’s descendants through Isaac forever.  In Genesis 26: 2-5, Yahweh confirmed His promise to Isaac:

“Do not go down to Egypt; stay in the land of which I shall tell you.  Sojourn in this land and I will be with you and bless you, for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to your father Abraham.  I will multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven, and will give your descendants all these lands; and by your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed; because Abraham obeyed Me and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes and My Laws.”

In Genesis 28: 13-15, Yahweh said that the Promised Land belongs to Abraham’s descendants through Jacob:

“I am Yahweh, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie, I will give to you and your descendants.  Your descendants shall also be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread out to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south; and in you and in your descendants shall all the families of the earth be blessed.  Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised.”

Yahweh repeated this promise in Genesis 35: 10-12:

“You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name….I am God Almighty (El Shaddai); be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall come from you, and kings shall come forth from you.  The land which I gave to Abraham and Isaac, I will give it to you, and I will give the land to your descendants after you.”

Later, Yahweh told Moses that He would rescue the Jewish people from bondage in Egypt and bring them to the Promised Land, and He tied the promise to His Name:

I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage.  I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.  Then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.  I will bring you to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you for a permanent possession; I am Yahweh.” (Exodus 6: 6-8)

As the Children of Israel were preparing to leave Mount Sinai and go to the Promised Land, Yahweh told them He would send His Angel before them.  This Angel is the Angel of Yahweh who appeared to Moses in the burning bush, and He established Israel as a nation:

“Behold, I am going to send an Angel before you to guard you along the way and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.  Be on your guard before Him and obey His Voice; do not be rebellious toward Him, for He will not pardon your transgression, since My Name is in Him.  But if you will truly obey His Voice and do all that I say, then I will be an enemy to your enemies and an adversary to your adversaries.  For My Angel will go before you and bring you in to the land of the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites and the Jebusites; and I will completely destroy them.  You shall not worship their gods, nor serve them, nor do according to their deeds; but you shall utterly overthrow them and break their sacred pillars in pieces.  But you shall serve Yahweh your God, and He will bless your bread and your water; and I will remove sickness from your midst.” (Exodus 23: 20-25)

In Exodus 23: 27-31, Yahweh explained how His Angel would drive out the early inhabitants of the Promised Land, and He gave another description of its boundaries:

“I will send My terror ahead of you, and throw into confusion all the people among whom you come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you.  I will send hornets ahead of you that they may drive out the Hivites, the Canaanites, and the Hittites before you.  I will not drive them out before you in a single year, that the land may not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.  I will drive them out before you little by little, until you become fruitful and take possession of the land.  I will fix your boundary from the Red Sea to the sea of the Philistines (i.e., the Mediterranean Sea), and from the wilderness to the River Euphrates; for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you will drive them out before you.”

  1. Someone I work with visits your blog regularly and recommended it to me to read as well. The writing style is great and the content is interesting. Thanks for the insight you provide the readers!

  2. I really enjoy reading your comments as they are so clear and understandable. Thank you for posting your comments to help us readers understand the Biblical verses better.

  3. Excellent article and easy to understand explanation. How do I go about getting permission to post part of the article in my upcoming news letter? Giving proper credit to you the author and link to the site would not be a problem.

  4. I am the author, and you have my permission to use this information. Proper credit and a link to SnyderTalk is all that I ask.

  5. Who really are the Chosen of Yahweh? The Israelites or the Jews. From what I can read and study the Jews has nothing to do with the Promied Land, and the descendants of Abraham. From what I can understand the Old Testament is Hebrew and deals only with the Israelites, not the Jews. The New Testament is also Hebrew, because Yahshua the Messiah was a Israelite, nay a Jew. Am I right or am I wrong. I need to know. My email address is: carrolraypugh@netzero.com.
    Thank You, May Yahweh Bless.

  6. Everyone who calls on the Name of Yahweh, i.e. has everyone who has faith in Yahweh, is one of the chosen. You need to read His Name is Yahweh. It will answer a lot of your questions.

  7. Are you without understanding? All of these promises to Abraham through Isaac’s seed will be fulfilled in the Millennial Reign of Christ! Do you dare say that political Jewish Zionists who have usurped this land through deceit and terrorism are the ones who are promised? The blind lead the blind into a ditch and “Christian Zionism” is at the front. Hear what the LORD prophecies to Judah and Jerusalem through Jeremiah:

    Jer 19:1 Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter’s earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;
    Jer 19:2 And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,
    Jer 19:3 And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.
    Jer 19:4 Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;
    Jer 19:5 They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind:
    Jer 19:6 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.
    Jer 19:7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
    Jer 19:8 And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.
    Jer 19:9 And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.
    Jer 19:10 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee,
    Jer 19:11 And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.
    Jer 19:12 Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet:
    Jer 19:13 And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.
    Jer 19:14 Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’S house; and said to all the people,
    Jer 19:15 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words. Jer 19:1 Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter’s earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests;
    Jer 19:4 Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents;

    Jer 19:15 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

    And Jesus also prophesied to Jerusalem, that her house would be left desolate. Such was fulfilled from 70 AD forward. Jerusalem will not be rebuilt until the Messiah comes as LORD of LORDS and KING OF KINGS. His children will inherit the promises then and not one moment before. All attempts to do this now will end in desolation and by the arm of the flesh. Jerusalem is once again heading for destruction. We should be urging people to get out instead of buying plane tickets for them!

    This is a grand scale deception! There are TWO Jerusalem’s in scripture! We, as believers are to seek the heavenly and not the earthly. A trap is being set, people! Wake up and look for your Redeemer now! Is He on the throne of your heart or in some blood thirsty fight for land? Judgement is coming once again to Jerusalem. Who does John say she is?

    She is spiritual Sodom and Egypt:

    Rev 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

    She is part of the Mystery Babylon whose children, the Jewish ZIONISTS, have gained control over the world-system through their financial and banking empires and desire to enslave mankind :

    Rev 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
    Rev 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
    Rev 18:23 And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.
    Rev 18:24 And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth.

    Jesus said so much as to her identity as spiritual Babylon.

    Mat 23:31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
    Mat 23:32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
    Mat 23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
    Mat 23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:
    Mat 23:35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
    Mat 23:36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.
    Mat 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
    Mat 23:38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
    Mat 23:39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

  8. You are wrong. You need to read Romans chapter 11. Paul encountered people with your beliefs, and Romans 11 was written to them:

    Romans 11

    1—I say then, God has not rejected His people, has He? May it never be! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
    2—God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel?
    3— “Lord, THEY HAVE KILLED YOUR PROPHETS, THEY HAVE TORN DOWN YOUR ALTARS, AND I ALONE AM LEFT, AND THEY ARE SEEKING MY LIFE.”
    4—But what is the divine response to him? “I HAVE KEPT for Myself SEVEN THOUSAND MEN WHO HAVE NOT BOWED THE KNEE TO BAAL.”
    5—In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God’s gracious choice.
    6—But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.
    7—What then? What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened;
    8—just as it is written,
    “GOD GAVE THEM A SPIRIT OF STUPOR,
    EYES TO SEE NOT AND EARS TO HEAR NOT,
    DOWN TO THIS VERY DAY.”
    9—And David says,
    “LET THEIR TABLE BECOME A SNARE AND A TRAP,
    AND A STUMBLING BLOCK AND A RETRIBUTION TO THEM.
    10— “LET THEIR EYES BE DARKENED TO SEE NOT,
    AND BEND THEIR BACKS FOREVER.”
    11—I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous.
    12—Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be!
    13—But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,
    14—if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them.
    15—For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?
    16—If the first piece of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.
    17—But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,
    18—do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.
    19—You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”
    20—Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear;
    21—for if God did not spare the natural branches, He will not spare you, either.
    22—Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
    23—And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
    24—For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
    25—For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
    26—and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written,
    “THE DELIVERER WILL COME FROM ZION,
    HE WILL REMOVE UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB.”
    27— “THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM,
    WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS.”
    28—From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers;
    29—for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
    30—For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now have been shown mercy because of their disobedience,
    31—so these also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy.
    32—For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all.
    33—Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!
    34—For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR?
    35—Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN?
    36—For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

  9. I believe ellemy’s post is correct, and I also believe that scripture does not contradict scripture. Regarding the Administrator’s answer, I believe the key to understanding the scriptures he shows is clearly speaking of a spiritual Israel for whom the apostle Paul desperately yearns to be saved through acceptance of Yahweh Yeshua HaMashiach. See Rom. 10:1.
    As for the land promises, one must seriously consider the statement made in Joshua 21:43-44: “So Yahweh gave to Israel «ALL THE LAND OF WHICH HE HAD SWORN TO GIVE TO THEIR FATHERS», and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. Yahweh gave them rest all around, «ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE HAD SWORN TO THEIR FATHERS». And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; Yahweh delivered all their enemies into their hand.”
    Either this scripture is true – that Yahweh fulfilled His promises fully, or it is not. Further, 1 Kings 4:20-21 make clear that Yahweh’s promises were realized in Solomon’s time: “Judah and Israel were «as numerous as the sand by the sea in multitude», eating and drinking and rejoicing. So Solomon reigned «over all kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt.» They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
    I will not say that I totally understand all of the things Yahweh may bring to pass related to the land of Israel, but I do know from these scriptures that He delivered on His promises to the patriarchs.

  10. The nation of Israel was/is a PHYSICAL entity. It (they) was never promised eternal life for obedience, but national blessings and protection. The Church started by Yashua was/is a SPIRITUAL entity. We are promised eternal life for obedience. The nation recieved the law on physical stone. We recieve the law being written on our heart, praise Yahweh. And we recieve the law magnified by Yashua to the Spiritual level. Shaul (Paul) was indeed addressing the conditions of Yahweh’s Church. The 13 tribes of Israel still exist, each having grown to a respective nation. The nations of Israel have all become apostate, and must repent quickly, or will go into destruction, because these are the very end days. Pray always that ye be accounted worthy to escape those things to come upon the Earth, and to stand before the Son of Man.

  11. Just like Paul, I too am an Iraelite by racial birth from the Tribe of Judah and Levi on my dad’s side and Judah and Benjamin on my mom’s side. Also, just like Paul I understand that salvation came first to the Israelite by way of the Mosaic Covenant and then to the Gentile by way of the New Covenant through our Messiah Yahushuah (AKA Jesus). I also understand, like Paul that in Christ (Messiah) there is no more such a thing as Jew or Gentile (Eph 2) and everyone in Christ (Messiah) is now a part of the family of Jacob (Israel), whether engrafted or regrafted in (Rom 8 & 11). There is never be anymore discussion about who is a Jew or who is a Gentile; that is old news. Paul is simply saying that someone who is born Israelite should not think they are better than someone born Gentile and someone born Gentile should not gloat over an unsaved Israelite apart from Christ and thus condemned to hell and lost in the world without hope (why wish to cut off the roots of your family tree?). The most obvious argument against the racist Zionist Jews who consider all others goyim dogs and Jesus as the offspring of a demon rape of Mary on her menstration, a false prophet and conjurer of magic, now boiling in excrement in hell (teaching of the Talmud) is that they are not even Shemetic (from Shem) except for the Edomite (from Esau) Pharisetical Rabbis who Jesus condemned as imposters sitting in the seat of Moses (ie: check king Herod’s pedigree) and who admitted to never being in bondage in Egypt with Israel (Jn 8:33). The rest claim there descendency from Ashkenaz and call themselves AshkeNAZI Jews. Ashkenaz was the son of Gomer (Gog) brother of Magog (kingof the north-Ezek 38-39) and son of Japheth son of Noah thus they are semetic (from Shem) by their own admition. Only a small number of Jews today are Shemetic. They are the Sephardic Jews. Of the total world population of Jews (est. 16 million) aprox. 13.5 million are AshkeNAZI with no Shemetic or historical claim to the Land of Israel (Palestine). Jesus told us that the end time oppressers of YaHUaH’s People would be those who SAY they are Jews but are not but are indeed the SYNAGOGUE OF SATAN (Rev 2:9 & 3:9) and I for one believe it. Always remember that a Jew is not a Jew who is one outwardly (physically) but a Jew is a Jew who is one inwardly (spiritually) (Rom 2:28-29).
