Scripture of the day:
Isaiah 33: 10-13—“‘Now I will arise,’ says Yahweh, ‘Now I will be exalted, now I will be lifted up. You have conceived chaff, you will give birth to stubble; My breath will consume you like a fire. The peoples will be burned to lime, like cut thorns which are burned in the fire. You who are far away, hear what I have done; and you who are near, acknowledge My might.”

An Armed Guard in The City of David Cautiously Watches Visitors
SnyderTalk Commentary: Silwan (a.k.a. The City of David or Ir David) is not an ordinary place. It’s the city that King David built south of Jebus, a city he captured and renamed Jerusalem. (See 1 Chronicles 11: 4-9.) It’s across the street from The Temple Mount complex, and it’s part of what the worldly-wise refer to as “East Jerusalem”. Make no mistake. The City of David is land given to Israel by Yahweh (see “Yahweh’s Promises Concerning the Promised Land” under Pages in the column on the right), and it’s very special. Pretending it isn’t won’t change anything, but it will provoke Yahweh.
Thumbing your nose at Yahweh is dangerous, and that’s what ignoring Him boils down to. I wish Israeli leaders appreciated the magnitude of the issues they face right now. Yahweh isn’t a politician or a diplomat. He’s the Creator and the Sovereign of the universe, and He doesn’t look to the United States or any other country for support. Israel’s leaders should seek Him. In due course, they will, but I fear that it will be when they have no other choice.
This is how Zechariah described it:
“In that day Yahweh will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the one who is feeble among them in that day will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of Yahweh before them. And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo.” (Zechariah 12: 8-11)
On a recent trip to Israel, my wife and I visited the City of David and took a special tour. The site was closed to tourists that day, so we were the only two visitors. The archeologists were busily engaged in their work, and we were able to see and talk with them about important new discoveries. Later, I’ll have more to say about some of the things we saw and learned, but today I want to show you a picture. As we were exploring a large, enclosed space, one of the archeologists gave us a recently unearthed pottery fragment. It’s the handle to a pitcher that is dated to the time of David, about 1000 B.C. Below is a picture of that pottery fragment:

Please pray for Israel. They need our prayer support right now more than ever before. The days ahead will be very difficult for them. While you’re at it, pray for the US. As you can tell from the news items posted in SnyderTalk, Israel’s leaders are wavering, and the US is pushing them to do things they shouldn’t do. Israel’s leaders must place their faith in Yahweh and trust Him. Israel’s very existence is a miracle from Yahweh, and their safety and security is His responsibility, but they must turn to Him in faith. I can’t stress the importance of this enough.

SnyderTalk Commentary: In the article above, President Obama says he’ll defend his healthcare program against anyone who tries to repeal it. That’s no surprise. I wonder why anyone would write an article about it. Did they expect him to say it was a stupid idea and that he wouldn’t vote for it himself?
Our president is on the wrong side of this issue, and he has been from the beginning. People told him to back off and try another approach, but he wouldn’t listen. The people of Massachusetts told him to back off. He didn’t just ignore them. He doubled down and shoved his plan through Congress over the opposition of an overwhelming majority of Americans who oppose government-run healthcare.
Healthcare reform in this nation is critically important. In fact, it’s a national priority, but we didn’t get reform. We got a government takeover of the healthcare industry. That can be changed, and if we do our jobs in the November 2010 election, it will be changed. It’s not “repeal” we’re after. It’s “repeal and reform”. The chart below will help you understand why government-run healthcare isn’t even an option:
US Debt as a Percent of GDP by Year from 1800 to 2010
If we don’t take corrective action now and stop this bureaucratic nightmare from taking hold, it will bankrupt this nation. You can count on it. Do you want to leave your children and your grandchildren a burden they can’t carry? I don’t.
