Hillary Clinton’s Legal Problems are Deep and Wide and They Go Back a Long Way

The Washington Post ran an article following the meeting between Bill Clinton and Loretta Lynch in Phoenix last week.  The title is spot on: “How everyone looks bad because Bill Clinton met with Loretta Lynch”:

Bill Clinton has made a mess. It was either out of foolish indifference or plain foolishness, but it has created a terrible moment for his wife and the Democrats, and for President Obama and perceptions of the integrity of his administration.

Clinton’s private, unplanned meeting with Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch at the Phoenix airport last week, coming at a time when the Justice Department should be nearing completion of its examination of Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server for her emails as secretary of state, will inevitably — and negatively — affect public attitudes about that investigation.

For a politician long praised for his political smarts, it was a striking error of judgment on Clinton’s part to walk to Lynch’s plane for any kind of conversation. It was a similarly huge lapse on the part of the attorney general, who was appointed by Clinton as a U.S. attorney in 1999, to allow him to come aboard for any kind of conversation.

[…]

Bill Clinton has been silent about the meeting and its propriety. He has made no public comment, and an adviser said Friday that he has no plans to do so. Until Saturday, Hillary Clinton had nothing to say about the propriety of the meeting. After being interviewed by the FBI, she told NBC’s Chuck Todd that the meeting between her husband and Lynch was innocent, adding, “Hindsight is 20/20.” The earlier silence on the part of the presumptive Democratic nominee is part of a pattern of declining to answer questions about the email issue until pushed by events to be more transparent.

People who have wondered why the Clintons are considered to be corrupt beyond the norm should learn a lesson from this episode. Bill, Hillary, and Loretta are attorneys. All of them know what witness tampering is. All of them know what graft is. All of them know what peddling political influence is. All three of them were involved in the incident. Hillary may think she has plausible deniability, but common sense rules that out.

Lynch said that she regrets the meeting.  I doubt that.  I think she regrets that the meeting was made public.  The fact that our nation’s top law enforcement officer was caught in such a compromising position tells us a lot about her.

In the Clintons’ world, winning is everything and the ends justify the means.  In other words, the rule of law be damned.

Bill has said nothing about the incident except that he intends to say nothing.  Hillary says that “hindsight is 20/20”.  That flippant explanation will satisfy people like Chuck Todd from NBC, but it doesn’t wash.

According to the New York Times, Lynch said that she will accept the FBI’s recommendation whatever it is.  In other words, Lynch is recusing herself in the Hillary Clinton case, or so she says.  That’s what she should do, but that doesn’t address the underlying problem—terrible judgment on her part and on the parts of Bill and Hillary Clinton.  Their judgment was so bad that it crossed the line legally.  In other words, they broke the law.

If you or I or any other ordinary American exercised such poor judgment in an FBI investigation, we would be in a world of hurt.  Most likely, we would be heading to prison.

The Clintons think that our laws don’t apply to them.  Their history in politics is loaded with examples of the two of them blatantly skirting the laws that the rest of us must obey, and they have done it with impunity.  How long will we allow this to continue?

Scandal follows the Clintons everywhere they go.  In their private and public lives, they have shown a callous disregard for the things that we hold dear.  For example, the Clinton Foundation is under investigation right now for Hillary’s meetings with foreign donors while she was secretary of state.  The Clinton Foundation has raised more than $2 billion dollars.

As Politifact correctly points out, “When Hillary Clinton was nominated as secretary of state, the Clinton Foundation signed an agreement seeking to avoid conflicts of interest between the foundation and Clinton’s cabinet post.”  Hillary must have forgotten about that pledge.  A federal judge thinks she did.

This is the bottom line: Hillary Clinton doesn’t just have a memory problem or an email problem or a donor problem.  She is rotten to the core.  That’s the problem.

Hillary Clinton tarnishes everything she touches.  We know that.  There is so much evidence to support that conclusion that denying it is ludicrous.

Hindsight is 20/20 is not a defense.  If it were, any criminal would use it anytime he got caught.

I wish the blatant corruption surrounding the Clintons was difficult to see, but it’s not.  Electing them tells us a lot about our nation.  They have made us complicit in their misdeeds, and we have gone along with them gleefully.

It’s not funny.  It’s disgraceful.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
