Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb

No one is perfect, but perfection is required.  That’s why the One and only Passover Lamb of Yahweh had to die.

Paul said,

“And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” (Hebrews 9: 22)

Passover symbolizes Yahweh shedding His blood and paying the price for our sins.  That’s called redemption.

Yahweh’s blood sacrifice covers us the same way that the blood of the Passover lamb on the doorposts and lintels of their houses covered the Children of Israel in Egypt.

John 19: 30 is arguably the worst translated verse in the New Testament:

“Therefore when the Messiah had received the sour wine, He said, ‘It is finished!’ And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.”

He did not say “It is finished”.  He said, “Paid in full.”  That’s what He did on the cross.  He paid the price for our sins in full.

In What Will You Do with the Rest of Your Life?, I refer to Hebrews 11 as the Hall of Faith. Faith in Yahweh saves us.  That’s what Paul was talking about when he said,

“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.” (Hebrews 11: 6)

The Hall of Faith includes some of the most respected people in the Bible. They were far from perfect, but they had faith in Yahweh.  For the most part, they lived lives of obedience.

Abraham wasn’t perfect.  He made a huge mistake when he took Sarah’s advice and had intercourse with Hagar.  The birth of Hagar’s son, Ishmael, set in motion the process that is unfolding in the Middle East today.

The Children of Israel are descendants of Abraham through Isaac.  Sarah was his mother. Arabs are descendants of Abraham through Ishmael.  Hagar was his mother.

Jewish people are from the tribe of Judah.  Jews and Arabs are distant cousins, and they are doing battle over birthrights.

Yahweh’s promises were made to Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob/Israel.  The birthrights belong to the Children of Israel, all 12 tribes including Judah.

Moses wasn’t perfect, either.  He didn’t circumcise his son.  Yahweh was about to kill Moses when his wife, Zipporah, circumcised their son and put some of the blood on Moses. (Exodus 4: 25)

David committed adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband murdered when the truth about their relationship was about to get out.  Even so, Yahweh said that David was a man after His own heart. (1 Samuel 13: 14)

Abraham, Moses, and David were saved by faith in their Redeemer who paid the price for their sins.  So are we.

Yahweh shed his blood for our forgiveness. His atoning sacrifice didn’t give us a license to sin with impunity, but it did satisfy the requirements of the Law.

This is how Yahweh explained it to Isaiah:

“Come now, and let us reason together,” says Yahweh, “though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.” (Isaiah 1: 18)

HalleluYah!

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
