Michael Curtis—Realism about Immigration:

The September, 2015 photo of a three-year-old Syrian child lying dead on a Turkish beach next to his mother and five-year-old brother who had all drowned, as had over 2,000 others, was a poignant picture. Everyone recognizes the need for humanitarian assistance to a reasonable degree for those trying to escape from the horrors of the brutality of the war in Syria and the barbarous Islamist terrorism.

While recognizing the moral problem involved, the countries of Europe are confronted with the pragmatic problem of responding in the context of 4.6 million Middle East refugees seeking asylum and 13.5 million people needing assistance inside Syria. The numbers will grow as the civil war in Syria continues and ISIS, the Islamic State, still exists.

There are three factors involved. The first is the unwelcome straightforward issue of the number of would-be migrants, genuine refugees, from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Somali, and Eritrea, who can realistically be accepted by European countries and, to a lesser extent, by the United States. A second is whether those migrants, mostly Muslim, can be satisfactorily integrated into Western democratic societies. Already in 2015 more than 1 million people came to Europe by sea, and another 34,000 by land. A third problem is the fear that some of them may be Islamists or jihadists prepared to cause harm, rather than genuine refugees.

By coincidence, these factors received attention on successive days, February 3 and February 4, 2016. On the first day, the President of Finland Sauli Niinisto said that migration into European by people, almost all Muslims, was a serious threat to Western values, culture, and identity. It is now clear that a considerable number of those seeking asylum are not genuine refugees fleeing war. Tougher laws are needed to prevent migrants from entering Europe simply because they are in search of a better life. The West should try to some extent to help those refugees who are in distress or who are being persecuted but not those people who are not really in need.

SnyderTalk Comment: Admitting refugees seems simple enough.  They are escaping war torn regions that are being ravaged, and their lives are in danger.  Allowing them to enter is the compassionate thing to do.

It’s not that simple, though.  ISIS is taking advantage of the situation by infiltrating the refugee ranks with jihadists.  They enter host nations with a mission—to kill, steal, and destroy.  It’s not compassionate to expose unsuspecting citizens of host countries to that kind of danger haphazardly.

Vetting is the obvious solution, but refugees don’t come into host countries with USDA seals of approval.  They must answer questions before being admitted.  For instance, questions like the ones below are put to them:

  • Are you a terrorist?
  • Do you plan to rape our women?
  • Do you believe in killing infidels?

Sounds like a joke, right?  Well, it’s not.

People who have purchased firearms in the U.S. have answered similar questions in a gun store.  The questions are part of the ATF form required for a gun purchase.

Below are literal examples of questions that appear on the ATF form:

  • Are you a fugitive from justice?
  • Have you ever been adjudicated mentally defective?
  • Have you ever renounced your United States citizenship?

If you answer “yes” to any of those questions, you won’t be allowed to purchase a weapon.  Does anyone expect a criminal or a terrorist to answer truthfully? I hope not. Their goal is to buy a gun.

The same is true for jihadists who have infiltrated the refugee pool.  Their goal is to gain entry.  They provide answers that they know will pass the test.  Simply put, they are not fools, and only fools believe that kind of “vetting” is adequate.

In the U.S. and Europe, questions like the ones I mentioned above are being asked to determine whether “refugees” should be admitted.  President Obama assures us that they are properly vetted.  You be the judge.

Deutsche WellePegida calls for protests throughout Europe—The anti-Islam organization Pegida held demonstrations throughout Europe – and were met with counter-demonstrations in every case. The biggest turnout straddled the River Elbe in Dresden, where the Pegida movement was founded two years ago.

International Business TimesEU Urges Turkey To Open Border For Syrian Refugees: European Union officials urged Turkey to let in tens of thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing the fighting in Aleppo, who are stuck at its border with Syria, near Kilis. Around 35,000 Syrians have fled a recent Syrian army offensive again rebel positions, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said Saturday at a meeting in Amsterdam. Turkey had a moral and legal duty to help, Mogherini said, adding that EU had given Turkey funding to provide assistance and protection to Syrian refugees. On Thursday, EU approved 3 billion euros ($3.35 billion) in aid to help Turkey cope with the influx of refugees.

Sunday’s ZamanTurkey faces mounting pressure as thousands mass at border: Turkish authorities say up to 35,000 Syrians have massed along the border, which remained closed for a third day on Sunday. The governor for the Turkish border province of Kilis said Saturday that Turkey would provide aid to the displaced within Syria, but would only open the gates in the event of an “extraordinary crisis.” Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş told CNN-Turk television that Turkey is now hosting a total of 3 million refugees, including 2.5 million Syrians. “Yes, Turkey has reached the end of its capacity to absorb (refugees),” Kurtulmuş said. “But in the end, these people have nowhere else to go. Either they will die beneath the bombings and Turkey will … watch the massacre like the rest of the world, or we will open our borders.”

RTUAE joins chorus of Arab monarchies ready to invade Syria: Following in the footsteps of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, The United Arab Emirates (UAE) stated on Sunday that it was ready to ground troops to Syria to fight Islamic State.

Jerusalem PostSecurity establishment furious with minister after making Egypt-Israel cooperation public: Highlighting that sensitivity is the Military Censor’s concern; heavy restrictions have been placed on what Israeli journalists can report on Egyptian-Israeli ties.

Times of IsraelJordan tells Israel to halt Western Wall expansion plans: Jordanian Media Affairs and Communications Minister Muhammad Momani urged Israel “not to meddle” with the Umayyad Palaces area, using an alternate term for an area south of the Western Wall, adjacent to the Temple Mount.

SnyderTalk Comment: The fact that anyone in Jordan believes that he has the right to tell Israel anything about what they can and can’t do at the Western Wall is disturbing.

Salim Mansur—Trump’s Ban on Muslims: The Discussion the Media Won’t Have: On December 7, 2015, U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign released a press statement calling “for a complete and total shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our representatives can figure out what is going on.” He was publicly saying what an increasing number of Americans over the years have apparently begun to think about Muslims and Islam in terms of the “clear and present” danger to their security and their country. A press release explained the reason for the ban: “Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension. Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims (sic) of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Rosie O’Donnell and Whoppi Goldberg have promised to leave the country if Donald Trump is elected president.  I hope they’re serious.

Where would they go?

What about Lebanon or Syria or Iraq or Iran or Tunisia or Libya?  They can join the “ordinary peaceful Muslims” that they keep trumpeting and host a television show where they expound on things they know nothing about for a live audience.

That’s exactly what they should do.

I wish they would.

Rick Newman—Hillary Clinton’s real Wall Street problem: She could seriously use the money—She’s not in the bankers’ back pockets. No, siree. Hillary Clinton may have received millions of dollars from Wall Street—in both personal income and campaign contributions—but she can ditch those well-heeled friends at a moment’s notice. To prove it, she has postponed (but not canceled) two fundraisers with Big Finance.

Roc Morin—The Western Volunteers Fighting ISIS: The village had no name. Everyone who had known the name of the village was now dead or had fled. When the Kurdish peshmerga fighters had recaptured the settlement from ISIS that spring, it was so full of booby-traps that they just torched the place rather than deal with it. The town was abandoned now—just somewhere for the men to come scavenge. “This one’s my house,” Christopher Smith grinned. The former Marine corporal gestured with his battered AK-47 toward a fire-gutted jungle-green villa. All the buildings were like that—vibrant non-sequiturs of blue, yellow, purple. “It’s like Super Mario World,” the 25-year-old remarked.

Robert Spencer—Mosque Obama visited under FBI surveillance since 2010: one of its members plotted to blow up a federal building: Obama is the President of the United States. He must know all this. That he could plead ignorance of it is inconceivable. So in light of it, why did he go? And when he went, why did he not bother to include even a word about how the Muslims in the U.S., who he thinks abhor and eschew jihad violence and share his view that the Islamic State is un-Islamic, need to be vigilant in policing their own communities and working with law enforcement officials? Why did he include nary a word about the need for mosques in the U.S. to institute programs to teach young Muslims such as Muhammad Hussain to reject the understanding of Islam that commands violence against unbelievers?

Washington PostAnti-Muslim group picks a fight in British Muslim neighborhood, and gets one: It’s a video that depicts just the sort of civilizational clash that extremists everywhere crave: Christians walking down a central shopping street in Britain. Muslim storekeepers and passerby hurling verbal abuse. A push. More abuse from both sides. And finally, police intervening to keep the warring clans apart.

Times of IsraelThousands at West Bank funerals of trio who killed border policewoman: Thousands of Palestinian residents of Qabatiya, in the northern West Bank, attended the funerals Friday of three terrorists who killed a border policewoman in Jerusalem’s Old City on Wednesday. […]The three, Ahmed Abou Al-Roub, Mohammed Kameel and Ahmad Rajeh Ismail Zakarneh of Qabatiya in the northern West Bank, carried out Wednesday’s attack in Jerusalem’s Old City, in which 19-year-old Border Police trainee Hadar Cohen was killed. A second policewoman was seriously injured.

i24 NewsIsrael and Jordan deadlocked on Temple Mount cameras as peace talk rumors swirl: The installation of security cameras on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem, as part of measures agreed on between Israel and Jordan to try and deescalate tensions over the holy site has still not occurred, over three months after the agreement was reached. The talks are deadlocked over a number of practical issues, including to whom the footage will be broadcast and where within the compound the cameras will be placed, according to a Haaretz report.

Breaking Israel NewsIs Ezekiel 37 Being Fulfilled Right Before Our Eyes?: During the recent Jewish holidays in September 2015, the Reconciliation with Israel Conference in Jerusalem, hosted by Kellen Davison, focused on recognizing the commonalities and addressing the areas that divide the two Abrahamic religions: Judaism and Christianity. As a result of conclusions made at the conference, Davison initiated the Commonwealth of Yisrael Project to help non-Jews join together in their common goal of bringing the Messiah, alongside the Jewish people, in a way that is mutually acceptable, conforming to Jewish law and Christian beliefs, and beneficial to all concerned.

SnyderTalk Comment: “The hand of Yahweh was upon me, and He brought me out by the Spirit of Yahweh and set me down in the middle of the valley; and it was full of bones. He caused me to pass among them round about, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley; and lo, they were very dry. He said to me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’ And I answered, ‘O Adonai Yahweh, You know.’ Again He said to me, ‘Prophesy over these bones and say to them, “O dry bones, hear the word of Yahweh. Thus says Adonai Yahweh to these bones, behold, I will cause breath to enter you that you may come to life. I will put sinews on you, make flesh grow back on you, cover you with skin and put breath in you that you may come alive; and you will know that I am Yahweh.”’”

Regrettably, too few Jewish people read the Tanach and too few Christians have any idea what this is about.

It’s a big deal; it’s happening now; and it’s an essential prelude to Yahweh’s return.

Jerusalem Post‘The Kotel compromise defused a strategic threat to US-Israel relationship’: In America, this issue, which the average Israeli cared little and knew little about, was galvanizing Conservative and Reform Jews and making the front page of The New York Times.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
