The Global Economy is in Serious Trouble

The global economy is in serious trouble.  At this point, there is very little that central bankers can do about it.  The Fed’s unwillingness to raise the Fed Funds Rate last week tells me that they are scared.  They said the decision was a close call.  I think fear won.

See “We still aren’t sure what will cause Yellen to pull the trigger”.  This much is certain: during a recession, raising the Fed Funds Rate will be off the table.  Economic stimulation will take center stage.

The next recession should be a real doozy.

On CNBC, my favorite television channel, most of the guests and hosts have stopped talking about buying stocks on dips in this so-called “correction”, and they have started talking about the real trouble ahead.  Things began to change several days ago.  In the past few days, problems at Volkswagen and Deutsche Bank have speeded up the transition because if both the Chinese and European economies take a dive, so will the global economy.

The anemic U.S. economy is not strong enough to prop up a falling global economy.

See “For Germans, the Volkswagen scandal is a national embarrassment” and “Merkel’s car nightmare”.  The Volkswagen scandal is much more than “a national embarrassment”.  The German economy is the engine that drives the European train; autos are the engine that drives the German economy; and Volkswagen is the world’s largest automaker.

Germany and Europe are experiencing a “car nightmare” because the difficulties at Volkswagen mean economic trouble.  Add potential Deutsche Bank woes and the influx of millions of refugees from the Middle East, and the European economy is facing real problems.

The big shoe hasn’t dropped yet, or it hasn’t dropped enough.  It’s the price of oil.  If oil falls to $20 per barrel as Goldman Sachs forecasts, lots of big banks around the world will be in trouble because they have loaned untold billions of dollars to energy producers who will face insolvency at that price.

When big banks are in trouble, everybody is in trouble.

Most people don’t watch CNBC.  Most people will not read this editorial, the articles in this SnyderTalk, and many other articles like it that have appeared in SnyderTalk over many months.  Most people will blissfully sleepwalk into the next recession, and as I said, it’s shaping up to be a real doozy since the Fed has almost no wiggle room.

Most people will get crushed financially by the next recession because they spend every penny they have and borrow to spend even more.

When it finally becomes obvious that we are in a recession, I predict that we will see many of those people on the mainstream media and on Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC talking about how the recession destroyed their lives.  They will be begging for the government to bail them out, again.

Recessions don’t destroy lives.  Profligate habits do.

As the 16th century English poet Thomas Tusser said, “A fool and his money are soon parted.”  That’s as true today as it was then.

Am I just whistling Dixie?  We’ll see.

His Name is Yahweh, the website, is a companion of the book His Name is Yahweh.  Both of them explain the importance of God’s Name.

The website is loaded with factual information that proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Yahweh is our Savior and that the Messiah is Yahweh.

I hope you will take a few minutes and explore the website.  I also hope you will share it with your friends and family.

It’s time for believers to tell the world about our God by His Name—Yahweh.

Jagdish N. Singh—Time to Dismantle the UN Human Rights Council:

  • What makes the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) ignore such rights violations? The answer is simple: most of the member states of the Council are themselves the worst violators of rights of their own citizens, and they are trying to save each other through a conspiracy of corruption.
  • When Hamas was raining rockets down on Israel, most members of the UNHRC seemed unconcerned that Jerusalem might have had moral and legal obligations to protect its citizens.
  • The horror is that so many corrupt countries go along with it to protect their own corruption. More sickening is that countries pretending to stand for freedom, such as the United States, fund nearly a quarter of the UN’s budget.
  • It is time for those who truly care about human rights to dismantle this show.

Raymond Ibrahim—Obama Throws Christian Refugees to Lions:

  • Why are Christian minorities, who are the most to suffer from the chaos engulfing the Middle East, the least wanted in the United States?
  • To the Obama administration, the only “real” refugees are those made so due to the actions of Bashar Assad. As for those who are being raped, slaughtered, and enslaved based on their religious identity by so-called “rebel” forces fighting Assad — including the Islamic State — their status as refugees is evidently considered dubious at best.
  • The Obama administration never seems to miss an opportunity to display its bias for Muslims against Christians. The State Dept. is in the habit of inviting scores of Muslim representatives but denying visas to solitary Christian representatives. While habitually ignoring the slaughter of Christians at hands of Boko Haram, the administration called for the “human rights” of the jihadi murderers.
  • In Islamic usage, the “cause of Allah” is synonymous with jihad to empower and enforce Allah’s laws on earth, or Sharia. In this context, immigrating into Western lands is a win-win for Muslims: if they die in the process somehow, paradise is theirs; if they do not, the “locations and abundance” of the West are theirs.
  • Muslims all around the U.S. are supporting the Islamic State and Muslim clerics are relying on the refugee influx to conquer Western nations, in the Islamic tradition ofHijrah, or jihad by emigration.

Peter Huessy—Is the Iran Deal a Dud?:

  • Two new studies have confirmed that this fear is justified. Iran will be able quickly to produce nuclear weapons fuel even under the terms of the JCPOA.
  • Iran can emerge in 15-20 years, or less, as a nuclear power with the potential, at a time of its choosing, “to make enough weapon-grade uranium for several nuclear weapons within a few weeks.” – David Albright, founder and president of the Institute for Science and International Security.
  • If sanctions failed to do the job, and if Iran engaged in future illegal nuclear activity — no matter how serious — would the U.S. use military force? When the U.S. and its allies discovered that North Korea had illegally built a nuclear weapon and massively cheated on the agreed framework, did anyone use military force to stop its effort? No.
  • The likelihood is far greater that the U.S. will look the other way in order not to admit that the deal it agreed to is a dud.
  • Iran has already repeatedly attacked the United States, from the murder of 241 Marines in Lebanon in 1983, to the attack on Khobar Towers; the murder of Americans over Lockerbie; the U.S. embassies in Tanzania and Kenya; the attack on the USS Cole; has been complicit in the attacks of September 11, 2001; is still holding four Americans hostages and, openly, is daily threatening America again.

Clifford D. May: Why Republican candidates support Israel— Dear Ann, During the Republican Party debate, hundreds of thousands of people read your tweets lambasting four of the candidates — Gov. Chris Christie, former Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz — for expressing their strong support for Israel. Based not just on what you said but also on how you said it (“How many f—ing Jews do these people think there are in the United States?”), quite a few of those readers have now concluded that you’re anti-Semitic. Let me sum up, in one paragraph, what I think I know about anti-Semitism: It’s as old as the Judean hills. It morphs but never dies. It’s a derangement syndrome. It can afflict those on either side of the political spectrum. Those afflicted cannot be reasoned out of it because they weren’t reasoned into it.

Eli Leon, News Agencies and Israel Hayom Staff: Iranian military chief: We will destroy Israel— An Iranian military parade that took place in Tehran on Tuesday served as another opportunity for the country’s upper echelon to promise to destroy Israel and attack the United States. “We will certainly destroy Israel,” declared the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army, Maj. Gen. Ataollah Salehi, during the parade that launched Defense Week, which commemorates the 35th anniversary of the beginning of the eight-year Iran-Iraq War. “We long for Israel to take action against us as soon as possible so we will be able to destroy it before 25 years are up,” Salehi said, referring to a recent statement by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei predicting that Israel would not exist in another quarter century.

Reuters and Israel Hayom Staff: Khamenei: Israel’s behavior toward Palestinians is ‘evil’— Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei denounced Israel on Wednesday for what he called its “insult” to Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. The comments came against the backdrop of recent tensions on the Temple Mount. “The Zionist regime’s crimes in Palestine and repeated insult of the sacred sanctuary of Al-Aqsa mosque … are the foremost problem for Muslims,” Khamenei was quoted as saying by his official website. Khamenei described Israeli behavior toward the Palestinians as the “ultimate degree of ruthlessness and evil.” A day earlier, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas warned that there was a risk of a new Palestinian intifada, or uprising, erupting if violence at Al-Aqsa mosque did not ease and peace talks with Israel did not resume.

SnyderTalk Comment: Khamenei is the poster boy for evil in the world today.  He’s not the only one, but he’s the philosophical leader of the pack.

Israel’s creativity and generosity are blessings to the world.  In medicine, technology, agriculture, the arts, and in many other ways, Israel is making our world a better place.  That’s not evil.  It’s good.

What passes for creativity in Iran is little more than monkey-see, monkey-do.  Their goal is to copy what creative people have done and destroy the planet starting with Israel.  That’s the epitome of evil.

Judith Bergman: Time to delegitimize the UN— It was recently publicized that Saudi Arabia has been elected to chair the U.N. Human Rights Council panel in charge of appointing independent experts. According to the U.N. Watch independent monitoring group, Saudi Arabia was chosen to head the Consultative Group, a five-member group of ambassadors that has the power to select applicants from around the world for more than 77 positions dealing with human rights mandates. These include positions such as the U.N. special rapporteur on violence against women and experts for working groups on the issues of discrimination against women and the rights of migrants and religious minorities. One does not quite know whether to laugh or cry at the appointment of one of the worst human rights offenders in the world to head the selection of such experts. Indeed, Michael Moller, director-general of the United Nations Office at Geneva, does look a little bit uneasy in the photo taken of him, as he shakes the hand of the Saudi ambassador to Geneva, Faisal bin Hassan Trad, at his appointment. It must have been difficult for this Danish-born diplomat, hailing from a Scandinavian country so intensely committed to the pursuit of justice and human rights, to hide a grimace. After all, he was appointing the ambassador of a country where public beheadings are not the actions of criminals or terrorist organization like Islamic State, but a regular working feature of the legal system, which is modeled according to Shariah law. Perhaps the thought of petrodollars made the handshake easier.

David Horovitz: Strategies for Israel, and those who love her—Full text of an address by The Times of Israel’s editor to the United Jewish Israel Appeal‘s Annual Dinner in London, September 21, 2015: Thank you for bringing me back from my home in Israel, to home territory in London. I want to use this talk for three prime purposes. To sum up the challenges facing Israel right now, to share some thoughts on the revival of anti-Semitism, and to suggest a series of ways you as individuals, and as the wonderful community that you are, can further boost Israel. Let me first briefly tell you a little about myself, and why it is I left London for Jerusalem 30 years ago. Mine is a rabbinical family. My great-grandfather founded one of the two Orthodox synagogues in Frankfurt in the late 1800s. My grandfather was badly wounded fighting for Germany in World War I. They were that quite common mix of very Orthodox and very German Jews, and it took them a long time to realize that their beloved Germany was not going to rid itself of the Nazis. They finally fled to England in 1937. My great-grandfather’s synagogue was burned down on Kristallnacht a year later.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
