Winds of change are blowing in the Middle East
In an article for the BBC titled “Winds of change blow through Middle East”, Kevin Connolly said,
The last time an old order collapsed in the Middle East it seemed obvious who should be invited to construct a new one.
When the Turkish Empire in the region disintegrated – consumed in the desert storms of the Great War – Britain and France were still, just about, major imperial powers.
The blood of a lost generation of young men and the riches built up over centuries had been poured into a narrow strip of European land on the Western Front, but in the Old World there were no territorial spoils to be had.
The Middle East though was different.
With the Turks defeated in Jerusalem and Damascus and Sinai and Gaza there was a new world to be made.
Britain, mandated by the League of Nations to govern the Holy Land, could set about honouring its commitment to the Jews of the world to build a national home for them in Palestine – probably not guessing that the issues surrounding the promise would remain a potent source of violence and discord a century later.
It was a moment of cataclysmic global upheaval and new nation states were formed like new islands thrown up by an undersea volcanoes: Jordan and Iraq in the British sphere of influence and Syria and Lebanon in the French.
Yes, the winds of change really are blowing in the Middle East. While everyone who is knowledgeable about the region knows that, few have any idea where we are heading.
So-called “experts” like to simplify for public consumption. They want to cast the myriad of problems in the Middle East as Israel vs. Palestinians or Sunni vs. Shia Muslims, for instance, because it’s easy. But is it accurate?
I don’t think so.
Take the Israel vs. Palestinian issue, for example. It’s real, but it’s not the driver of conflict in the region. If there were two independent states—one Palestinian called Palestine and one Jewish called Israel—there would still be a problem in the minds of Islamists throughout the region because of Israel’s mere existence.
Bottom line: as long as there is an Israel, there will be conflict in the Middle East and occasional wars.
And what about the Sunni vs. Shia issue? Muslims have been killing each other since the beginning of Islam in the 600s A.D. over slight differences in interpretation of the Quran. Conflict has intensified with the advent of groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, and new and even more radical groups are popping up almost every day.
Bottom line: as long as there are Muslims in the Middle East, there will be conflict, and those conflicts will explode into occasional all-out wars.
This much is certain: the pace of change in the Middle East is picking up, and it’s becoming an increasingly violent place. Add to that the fact that so many world leaders believe it is their mission in life to solve the Middle East problem and you have a potent brew the likes of which we haven’t seen since the days leading up to World War II.
Bottom line: problems plaguing the Middle East have infected every nation on the face of the planet; the Middle East is growing more dangerous by the day; proposed solutions to the Middle East problem haven’t worked and won’t work.
You must look beyond the mass media to find any hint of Yahweh’s involvement. Regrettably, you have to look beyond most Christian and Jewish places of worship, too. As a rule, rabbis and preachers would rather talk about something else. Feel good messages seem to work with the “faithful” and they know it.
Many Muslim clerics don’t mind talking about the problem, but they don’t have Yahweh’s perspective. They are the primary source of the infection.
Bottom line: Yahweh made promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel, and He never breaks His word. Since all of the proposed solutions to the Middle East problem involve Israel surrendering some part of the Promised Land in return for safety and security, Yahweh can’t be ignored.
Returning to the “winds of change” theme, the Messiah said it best:
“When you see a cloud rising in the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming,’ and so it turns out. 55 And when you see a south wind blowing, you say, ‘It will be a hot day,’ and it turns out that way. 56 You hypocrites! You know how to analyze the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why do you not analyze this present time?” (Luke 12: 54-56)
People who don’t have faith in Yahweh can’t make sense of what is taking place right in front of their eyes. That’s especially true in the Middle East.
This is Yahweh’s moment. He’s longed for it since creation. He’s setting up things for a grand entrance—a Personal appearance. As He said,
“Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My Name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
Can you feel the passion in His Voice? Are you ready?

For the first time anyone can remember, Israel and the Arab world see eye to eye—this deal is dangerous for the region, for the people of the region—Jews, Muslims, and Christians alike, and for the entire world.
Julian Hattem: UN Backs Iran Deal, Infuriating Lawmakers from Both Parties— The Obama administration was forced to play defense on Monday after lawmakers in both parties criticized its decision to let the United Nations — not Congress — have the first say on the Iran nuclear deal. Republicans pounced on the decision following the U.N. Security Council’s 15-0 vote, arguing the White House was giving short shrift to congressional assent in a rush to build international support for the agreement. The White House appeared to hope that the U.N. vote would build pressure on Congress to back the deal, but the strategy risked backfiring, with some Democrats scolding the administration for the decision. Rep. Eliot Engel (N.Y.), the top Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee, joined panel Chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) in a statement saying they were “disappointed” that the U.N. Security Council voted “before Congress was able to fully review and act on this agreement.” “Regardless of this morning’s outcome, Congress will continue to play its role,” they added. Administration officials fought back, countering that lawmakers still have two months to make up their minds. “No ability of the Congress has been impinged on,” Secretary of State John Kerry insisted on Monday. Kerry claimed that the administration was between a rock and a hard place. Either the White House risked getting flak at home, he said, or Iran and the other negotiating nations would balk at the idea of holding their landmark international agreement hostage to one country’s legislature.
Shlomo Cesana: World Powers to Help Iran Protect Its Nuclear Facilities—The nuclear deal with Iran guarantees that world powers will assist Iran in thwarting attempts to undermine its nuclear program. Article 10 stipulates that world powers and Iran will foster “cooperation through training and workshops to strengthen Iran’s ability to protect against, and respond to, nuclear security threats, including sabotage, as well as to enable effective and sustainable nuclear security and physical protection systems.” Recent years have seen various mishaps befall the Iranian nuclear program, from powerful computer viruses to the death of nuclear scientists, which world media outlets have often attributed to foreign intelligence agencies. The clause did not appear in the interim deal in April, but was added to the final agreement at the last minute.
Jeffrey Goldberg: Israeli Opposition Leader: Iran Deal Will Bring Chaos to the Middle East—When I interviewed the leader of Israel’s Labor Party, Isaac “Bougie” Herzog, at the Brookings Institution’s Saban Forum last December, he said, in reference to nuclear negotiations with Iran: “I trust the Obama administration to get a good deal.” When I spoke with him on July 15, Herzog’s message was very different. The deal in Vienna, he said, “will unleash a lion from the cage, it will have a direct influence over the balance of power in our region, it’s going to affect our borders, and it will affect the safety of my children.” Iran, he said, is an “empire of evil and hate that spreads terror across the region.” Iran will take its post-sanctions windfall, he said, and use the funds to supply more rockets to Hizbullah in Lebanon and more ammunition to Hamas in Gaza. “There are clear risks to Israel’s security in this deal.” “Most of the Israeli body politic is worried about the agreement, and people need to understand our worries. The world doesn’t fully understand the fact that we are left here alone in this neighborhood, that there is a Shia empire that is trying to inflame the region with a heavy hand….We have respect for the United States, for this great ally and friend, and we don’t want to be in a confrontation or clash. But we have to let people know that we think this is a dangerous situation.”
Abdulrahman al-Rashed: Thwarting Iran’s Regional Dominance—The Iranian regime is like a monster that was tied to a tree and finally set loose in our region. This means we are on the threshold of a new, bloody era. Verbal promises from Washington will not be enough, and Iranian pledges will not reassure us.
Eric Edelman and Ray Takeyh: On Iran, Congress Should Just Say No—A careful examination of the nuclear agreement with Iran reveals that it concedes an enrichment capacity that is too large; sunset clauses that are too short; a verification regime that is too leaky; and enforcement mechanisms that are too suspect. The scale of imperfection is so great that the judicious course is to reject the deal and renegotiate a more stringent one. Prior to the 2013 interim accord, the Obama administration’s position rested on relatively sensible precepts. The U.S. insisted that, given Iran’s practical needs, it should only have a symbolic enrichment program of a few hundred centrifuges. These prudent parameters were overtaken by a cavalcade of concessions. The U.S. in effect abandoned the goal of preventing development of an Iranian nuclear capability in favor of managing its emergence.
Bozorghmehr Sharafedin: Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Denounce UN Resolution Endorsing Nuclear Deal—Iran’s Revolutionary Guards denounced the UN Security Council resolution endorsing last week’s nuclear deal, saying it crossed “red lines” set by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei. The deal is still under review in Iran, where it must be endorsed by the National Security Council and later by Khamenei. “Some parts of the (resolution) draft have clearly crossed the Islamic Republic’s red lines, especially in Iran’s military capabilities,” Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammed Ali Jafari said. “We will never accept it.” Hossein Shariatmadari, editor-in-chief of Kayhan, a newspaper closely associated with Khamenei, wrote, “You can see some vital red lines of the Islamic Republic have not been preserved.” Ahmad Bakhshayesh, a member of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in parliament, said, “The negotiating team was not supposed to negotiate on Iran’s ballistic missile technology.”
Sharona Schwartz: Scientists Were ‘Astonished’ to Find Bible Quotes on ‘Most Ancient Hebrew Scroll Since the Dead Sea Scrolls’— A burned parchment believed to be 1,500-years-old was unearthed near the Dead Sea in 1970, but researchers have just now succeeded in deciphering the contents of the find they have called “the most ancient Hebrew scroll since the Dead Sea Scrolls.” Though the scroll was charred and tightly rolled, scientists used CT scan technology to create cross sectional images, thus revealing the text without having to unwind the document – which would likely have further damaged or even destroyed it. The Israel Antiquities Authority on Monday announced that the scorched scroll found at Ein Gedi near the Dead Sea 45 years ago was actually a copy of the opening verses of the Book of Leviticus which – perhaps ironically given the state of the scroll – describes laws for burnt offerings. “To date, this is the most ancient scroll from the five books of the Hebrew Bible to be found since the Dead Sea Scrolls, most of which are ascribed to the end of the Second Temple period (first century B.C-first century C.E.),” the Israel Antiquities Authority said in a statement.
Russia Today: Syria wants to join Russia-led Eurasian Economic Union—The Syrian Prime Minister Wael Halqi has said joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) will allow Damascus easier economic and trade cooperation with friendly nations. Russia and Belarus are also discussing a new loan to Syria. “Negotiations with Russia on joining the Eurasian Union and customs-free zone are being held. We see this as a benefit and strengthening the relations with friendly states, which will facilitate economic and trade cooperation with them,” said Halqi in an interview with RIA Novosti Tuesday. According to the prime minister, Russia and Syria have signed a number of contracts for the construction of gas processing plants, irrigation facilities and power stations. In 2013, an agreement was signed for Russian companies to develop oil fields on the Syrian coast. The first phase is worth $88 million and will last for five years. The countries are also discussing the expanding of loans to Damascus. “Negotiations with Russia and Belarus on the provision of new lines of credit continue. It will help to meet the needs of production, create new opportunities for the development of the internal market and economic process,” said the prime minister.
SnyderTalk Comment: This is just talk for the time being, but something like it is on the way. Think of it as the coming anti-dollar, anti-U.S. bloc. Iran, Russia, and China will be involved. I don’t know for sure which other countries will join them, but I’m reasonably confident about those three.
Michael Mimoli: Obama: Critics of Iran deal are the same people who rushed to war with Iraq—President Obama defended his pursuit of a negotiated solution to halt Iran’s nuclear program against critics who he claimed would prefer to rush the U.S. back to war, arguing Tuesday that engaging in “smart, principled diplomacy” was the true test of American leadership. As Congress prepares to hold hearings on the deal this week, the president said in a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Pittsburgh that he welcomed a debate over the accord reached between Iran and a group of world powers led by the United States. But he warned that opponents were already peddling “shaky information” that recalled the “policies and mindset that failed us in the past.” “Some of the same politicians and pundits that are so quick to reject the possibility of a diplomatic solution to Iran’s nuclear program are the same folks who were so quick to go to war in Iraq and said it would take a few months,” he said. “We know the consequences of that choice, and what it cost us in blood and treasure. So I believe there’s a smarter, more responsible way to protect our national security.”

Philip Weiss: If Americans support Iran deal, 56-37, what gives Israel the power to ‘croak’ it?—Americans support the Iran deal overwhelmingly. But US public opinion is not the ball game. As Chris Matthews said last night, the people who care most about this deal don’t support it, and they’re out in force– in a word, the Israel lobby. So the politics of the Iran deal often sound like a strictly-Jewish conversation. Here’s the lay of the land. The US press is paying a lot of attention to Jewish groups that are against the Iran deal. “Jewish groups gird for ‘epic’ battle over Iran deal,” Steve Mufson in the Washington Post reports; AIPAC, the leading Israel lobby group, is expected to spend as much as $40 million to try and nullify Obama’s policy. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee is funding a new 501(c)4 group, Citizens for a Nuclear Free Iran, that is expected to spend $20 million to $40 million on advertising and campaigns in 30 to 40 states to mobilize opponents of the deal to write or call their members of Congress, say people familiar with the plan who sought anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss it…

The Register: Arctic ice cap GROWING massively, returns to 1980s levels of cover—Contrary to the chorus of climate alarmists, the Arctic ice cap has not, by now, completely disappeared: in actual fact it has been growing rapidly lately, by an entire third just in 2013 and more since. “It would suggest that sea ice is more resilient perhaps. If you get one year of cooler temperatures, we’ve almost wound the clock back a few years on this gradual decline that’s been happening over decades,” ice scientist Rachel Tilling tells the BBC. The Beeb was reporting on newly published updated research which has confirmed the Arctic ice’s remarkable resurgence over the last couple of years, for all that last year was tied for warmest-ever with 2005 and 2010. The Arctic ice has indeed cheered up a bit, particularly in thickness of the key areas north of Greenland and Canada, which had been getting nearly as thin as the stuff north of Siberia – which regularly breaks up enough to let ships through, though they generally have to be escorted by icebreakers. Thus actual ice volumes are looking especially good. Arctic ice has also stabilised in area, which is a marked change from much of last decade when the northern sea ice extent over time seemed to be in free fall. (That said the drop was much less than normal seasonal variation, as can be seen in these graphs from Cryosphere Today.) Meanwhile of course, the southern sea ice around Antarctica has continued to spread out and cover bigger areas all the time, a circumstance which has frankly stumped climate scientists as their models cannot account for it. Antarctic ice hit a new all-time record last year, in fact.

Exodus 16
1 Then they set out from Elim, and all the congregation of the sons of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departure from the land of Egypt. 2 The whole congregation of the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. 3 The sons of Israel said to them, “Would that we had died by Yahweh’s hand in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat, when we ate bread to the full; for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”
4 Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether or not they will walk in My instruction. 5 On the sixth day, when they prepare what they bring in, it will be twice as much as they gather daily.” 6 So Moses and Aaron said to all the sons of Israel, “At evening you will know that Yahweh has brought you out of the land of Egypt; 7 and in the morning you will see the glory of Yahweh, for He hears your grumblings against Yahweh; and what are we, that you grumble against us?”

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now. There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy.
