Back to Israel, Reports to Follow

Katie and I will be in Israel for several days.  While we are there, I will not post SnyderTalk.

Until we return, you may want to explore these SnyderTalk Pages:

These pages contain a great deal of information that you will find interesting and informative.

You may also want to see these videos about the City of David:

The city of Jerusalem talked about in the Bible is called the City of David today.  The City of David mentioned in the Bible is Bethlehem or Beit Lechem.  It’s David’s birthplace and the Messiah’s birthplace.

I don’t know what I’ll have to share with you when I return, but it should be interesting.

Pew Research Center: America’s Changing Religious Landscape: Christians Decline Sharply as Share of Population; Unaffiliated and Other Faiths Continue to Grow—The Christian share of the U.S. population is declining, while the number of U.S. adults who do not identify with any organized religion is growing, according to an extensive new survey by the Pew Research Center. Moreover, these changes are taking place across the religious landscape, affecting all regions of the country and many demographic groups. While the drop in Christian affiliation is particularly pronounced among young adults, it is occurring among Americans of all ages. The same trends are seen among whites, blacks and Latinos; among both college graduates and adults with only a high school education; and among women as well as men.

SnyderTalk Comment: Anyone who believes that the U.S. today is a Christian nation hasn’t been paying attention, especially since the election of Barack Obama.

I’m not trying to lay all of the blame for today’s wickedness at Obama’s feet.  He merely reflects the nation that elected him as their leader.  Even so, he bears a good deal of guilt, because he has made it acceptable for people who aren’t Christians to claim that they are while they wallow in filth.  Just as important, he has made it okay for people to declare openly that they aren’t Christians.

Not long ago, people who didn’t know Yahweh from a hole in the wall would tell you that they were Christians because it was the “right thing to say”.  That’s not true anymore.

Today, large numbers of people believe that not being a Christian is a badge of honor, and they wear it proudly.  They even mock people who are believers.  I suspect that the unbelievers are in the majority.  It didn’t use to be this way.

Many times, I’ve mentioned the significance of the Democrat Party booing Yahweh during their 2012 National Convention.  That would have been unthinkable just a few years ago.  Even if they had wanted to boo Yahweh, they wouldn’t have done it for political reasons.  The stigma has been removed.

If things keep changing this quickly, in no time, distinguishing between the wheat and the chaff will become child’s play.  If you are a believer, you will stand out.  That’s the way it should have been all along.

The reference to wheat and chaff is a warning.  John the Baptist used it when a group of religious leaders came to the Jordan River to be baptized.  It’s discussed in Matthew 3:

7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them, ‘You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance; 9 and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, “We have Abraham for our father”; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham. 10 The axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

11 As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.’”

Those religious leaders were like so many Christian “leaders” in the U.S. today.  They use their “faith” as a tool for bilking their followers and getting filthy rich in the process.  See “Inside Edition Investigates TV Preachers Living Like Rock Stars”.

This video will give you a good idea about how the religious leaders of the Messiah’s day lived.  I took it about a year ago in Jerusalem.  One of the religious leaders who came to John the Baptist may have lived in this house: “The Wohl Museum in the Old City of Jerusalem”.

I’m not suggesting that all Christian leaders in the U.S. today are crooks, but many of them are.  They are greedy empire builders—not servants of the Most High.

The Messiah said, “You will know them by their fruits.” (Matthew 7: 16)  That was as much a warning as an observation.

The “unaffiliated” group mentioned in the Pew Research report includes people like me.  The “church” referred to in the Bible includes every person that has been called out by Yahweh.  In Greek, it’s “ekklesia”.  Literally, it means “the called out ones”.  We have been “called out” by Yahweh to serve Him.  We are “unaffiliated” because we have abandoned manmade religion.

You don’t join Yahweh’s church; you don’t sign pledge cards; you don’t put on fundraisers; and you don’t recruit new members.  Yahweh calls you to it, and you go where He leads you.  The Messiah explained it this way: “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10: 27)

Today, if you tell someone that you have heard God’s voice, there is a very good chance that the person you are talking to will think that you are crazy.  According to the Messiah, all of His followers have “heard His voice”, and they keep on hearing it because Yahweh leads His children where He wants them to go.

As I said, things have really changed, and not for the better.

Some may think that I sound pessimistic.  I don’t agree.  I’m not pessimistic.  I’m optimistic because Yahweh is separating the wheat from the chaff.  That’s one sign that His return is near.

Sara Yoheved Rigler: Why Celebrate Jerusalem Day?— In the year 70 CE we lost her. The Roman army conquered what had been the glory of the Jewish nation for a thousand years. They pillaged Jerusalem, and slaughtered or enslaved every Jewish resident. Sixty-five years later, the Roman Emperor Hadrian razed the city. On its ruins, he built Aelia Capitolina. The only Jews allowed entrance were Jewish slaves. And the name “Jerusalem” survived only in our prayer books, from which we beseeched God three times a day to rebuild Jerusalem. When the Roman Empire reinvented itself as the Christian Byzantine Empire in the 4th century, they brought back the city’s name, Jerusalem, but not its Jews. Jews, who still lived in thriving communities in the Galilee and the Golan Heights, were permitted entrance only one day a year – on Tisha B’Av, the day of the destruction of the Holy Temple and of Jerusalem. As a contemporary historian, Jerome, wrote: “The Jews can only come to mourn the city, and they must buy the privilege of weeping for the destruction of the city.”

Nadav Shragai: Jerusalem, just a bit different—On June 18, 2002, a suicide bomber blew himself up after boarding the No. 32 bus near Patt Junction in Jerusalem. Nineteen Israelis were murdered, among them Ayman Kabha, a native of the village of Barta’a and a student enrolled in the special education program at David Yellin College of Education. Kabha’s fellow students, Arab citizens of Israel who at the time lived in rented apartments in the village of Beit Safafa, not far from where the attack took place, rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center. In the neon-lit hallways, many families were informed that their loved ones had perished. Now it was Ayman’s friends from David Yellin who were hearing the news that he was gone. I was among a group of journalists who met with them in the aftermath, trying to get a quote from them as they were oscillating between the sobbing and moans of those suffering life-threatening, agonizing injuries. We requested that they condemn the suicide attack and the individual who carried it out. They refused, even on condition of anonymity. Their refusal was outrageous. Most of all, it was depressing.

Dror Eydar: Understanding the Jerusalem connection—Anyone who believes in dividing Jerusalem and handing over our holy sites will never be a true leader among our people • Though Jerusalem is plagued with problems, nothing will keep us away from the city to which we yearned to return for 2,500 years. 1. It is fascinating that of all Israel’s noteworthy days of remembrance and of thanks fall in the Jewish month of Iyar. Iyar is traditionally regarded as the month of strength and courage. The State of Israel was declared at the start of Iyar and Jerusalem was liberated at the end of Iyar. In between we mark the Bar Kokhba Revolt — 1,813 years passed between the time we lost our independence in 135 C.E. and the time we reclaimed it in 1948. Nineteen years passed between the time the State of Israel was established and the time we could march through the gates of the Old City of Jerusalem. The Israelites underwent a similar process as a fledgling people: The Israelite tribes that entered Canaan at the end of the 13th century B.C.E. waited hundreds of years before King David conquered Jerusalem and King Solomon erected the First Temple. Our lengthy historical journey is dichotomous, comprising two aspects: the national nucleus and the spiritual nucleus; fate and destiny; body and soul; Israel and Jerusalem.

Asaf Romirowsky and Alexander H. Joffe: Mahmoud Abbas: Palestinians Better Off Dead Than Living Outside of Israel— Faced with the suffering of their own people, the Palestinians recently decided not to help. Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas rejected a deal with Israel brokered by the United Nations that would allow Palestinian refugees living in Syria to resettle in the West Bank and Gaza. Abbas stated unequivocally that “we rejected that and said it’s better they die in Syria than give up their right of return.” The Palestine Liberation Organization has also ruled out any military action to help the 18,000 or more refugees who are trapped in the Yarmouk camp near Damascus. Abbas’s cold-blooded response reveals something fundamental about Palestinian society and identity. Far more than territory, the key Israeli-Palestinian issue is the idea of a Palestinian “right of return”—the belief in a legal and moral right of Palestinian refugees, and more importantly their descendants from around the world, to return to ancestral homes in what was once Mandatory Palestine. This belief is so vital to Palestinian national identity that their leaders would rather they die than give it up and have a chance to live.

SnyderTalk Comment: I think the more prescient point is that Palestinians are against whatever the latest issue is that people like Barack Obama think may lead to peace.  Whatever the issue is, if resolution of it can lead to peace, Palestinians are against it.

Why?

First and foremost, Palestinian leaders are getting away with murder, literally.  They don’t have a state so they are unaccountable to anyone except donors, and donors are not holding them accountable.  If a Palestinian state ever does come into existence, their world will change completely.  Suddenly, their feet can be held to the fire.  They don’t want that.  It’s much easier for them to complain, engage in terrorist activity, and bilk donors.

The second reason is not far behind in terms of importance.  The person who signs a peace treaty with Israel and those in his inner circle will be dead.  I’m saying that for them a peace treaty is a death warrant.  By vilifying and demonizing Israel, they have created conditions which ensure that large numbers of people will come gunning for them if they do what they have been telling their people all along is unthinkable—make peace with Israel.

For example, at this moment, it is illegal for a Palestinian to sell land to a Jew.  It is a capital offense.  People are executed for doing it.  That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.  It just means that the penalty for doing it is severe.  Trying to convince people that you had a change of heart under that condition will be impossible.

Daniel Mariaschin: Antisemitism and Anti-Israelism on Campus— Daubing swastikas on walls has always been a deliberate way to convey hostility— a short-hand for inspiring hate, fear and intimidation. A college fraternity at Stanford University was vandalized with swastikas and other written epithets in late April. Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., also suffered recent attacks, with swastikas found in a campus library in April and one scratched into a student’s car in January 2014.

Robert Spencer: NSA chief: Islamic State’s ideology ‘increasingly resonating’ with Muslims in US— The U.S. government’s official position is that the Islamic State’s ideology has absolutely nothing to do with Islam, and that the Muslims who join it know and care little or nothing about their religion, and that the overwhelming majority of Muslims reject and are repulsed by its understanding and practice of Islam. And now Mike Rogers tells us that this nauseating and un-Islamic perversion of Islam is “increasingly resonating” with Muslims in the U.S. How and why that is happening, he apparently did not explain, and no one seems to have asked him about it.

SnyderTalk Comment: It’s coming to a town near you.  In fact, it’s probably already in a town near you, and you just don’t know it yet.  Have no fear.  Everyone will know it due course.

This problem won’t go away by itself.

Taylor Luck: What’s Behind Saudi Arabia’s New Muscularity—The Saudi public not only supports Saudi Arabia’s new war in Yemen, but also its new role as Middle East “policeman,” filling the void left by American reluctance to intervene in the region. Less than five months after it went through a transition of power from King Abdullah to his brother King Salman, a bolder, more assertive Saudi Arabia is trying to expand its geopolitical footprint in the Middle East. Yet Riyadh’s mounting cold war with Iran – coupled with the endless conflict in Syria, Islamic State’s presence in Iraq, and the escalating violence in Yemen – has enmeshed the country in several simultaneous theaters of war. Since 2005, Riyadh has channeled an estimated $30 billion to tribes and militias in Lebanon, Iraq, and Bahrain, creating a wide network of Sunni movements linked and directed by Saudi intelligence services. In January 2015, Shiite Houthi militias took control of the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and drove out the Saudi-backed government. In Riyadh’s eyes, Iran and its agents for the first time were approaching Saudi soil. “All the great historic Arab powers – Iraq, Syria, and Egypt – are all in chaos,” says Jasser al Jasser, managing editor of the Saudi daily Al Jazirah. “There is a need for a great Arab power in the region, and Saudi Arabia under King Salman is now stepping up to become that power.”

Emanuele Ottolenghi: Why the Iran Nuclear Deal Could Be Catastrophic for Israel—In a recent issue of National Interest, former CIA analyst Paul Pillar lamented “the near-obligatory reference to Nazis in any anti-agreement writing about Iran.” The comparison, he argues, is “an emotion-based effort to foster distaste for doing any business with such an ogre-like regime,” which exaggerates the regime’s sinister disposition at a moment when it is showing a clear desire to become “a more integrated member of the international community.” In fact, Pillar speaks for a sizable group of foreign policy commentators, including Vali Nasr, dean of the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University, Daniel Brumberg of the United States Institute of Peace, Ryan Costello of the National Iranian American Council, and Ariane Tabatabaei at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. They contend that a nuclear deal would facilitate a US-Iran détente and forge a new moderate course in Tehran.

Michael Freund: The Western Wall Pledge— It stands there silently, contemplatively, like a sentry guarding its post, projecting strength and a dramatic sense of history even as it invokes our deepest longings regarding Jewish destiny. As the best-known site in all of Jerusalem, it is a symbol that resonates profoundly and sometimes inscrutably in the heart of all those who feel the softness of its touch. Indeed, for those of us born after the miraculous events of the Six Day War, it is hard to conceive of a time when the Western Wall was defiled and unreachable, languishing despondently under foreign rule. We visit it whenever we wish, free to recite any prayer, and to offer as much praise or shed as many tears as our hearts might desire. Nonetheless, it was just 48 years ago today, on the 28th day of the Hebrew month of Iyar that this ancient relic of the Temple period was returned to our people, an event we now commemorate each year as Jerusalem Day.

Ze’ev Jabotinsky: Jewish sovereignty vs. Palestinian lies—Now that all the speeches and events marking Jerusalem Day have passed, it is worth taking a good look at an especially important perspective when it comes to Israel’s capital city — international law. Dr. Jacques Gauthier is a non-Jewish Canadian lawyer who specializes in international human rights and is an expert in international law. The topic of his doctoral research was the right to sovereignty over Jerusalem according to international law, and he came to the unequivocal conclusion that, according to international law, only the Jewish people have the right to sovereignty over all of Jerusalem. Those same claims apply to the entirety of the land of Israel west of the Jordan River, including Judea and Samaria and the Gaza Strip.

Ruthie Blum: Herzog hits a new low—On Sunday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Communications Ministry Director-General Avi Berger. On Monday, Zionist Union and opposition leader Isaac Herzog posted a rant about this on his Facebook page. “[Netanyahu] is waging a war on the media with all his might,” he wrote. Later that day, Herzog addressed the move during a Zionist Union faction meeting, calling it “reminiscent of Israel’s neighbors who long ago forgot the role of the media.” And then he specified one such neighbor. “Perhaps Netanyahu doesn’t like [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan, but he is undoubtedly learning his tricks,” Herzog said, warning the prime minister not to tamper with Israel’s freedom of the press. […] But one thing is immediately apparent: Herzog’s audacity is as limitless as his rage at having lost the election. His repeated assertion that the Likud-led government “does not reflect the will of the people” is merely laughable, as the ballot box indicated. But his likening Netanyahu to Erdogan is more than slanderous.

David Mikics: The Marathon Bombers Were Clear About Their Motives. Why Is Masha Gessen Confused?— “Now I don’t like killing innocent people, but in this case it is allowed,” surviving Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev wrote days after he and his brother Tamerlan perpetrated the April 2013 massacre. Since then, Tsarnaev has issued no statement of regret or remorse. He has been flawlessly loyal to his cause, which resulted in the deliberate maimings and murders for which a jury in Boston sentenced him to death last week. Yet much of the coverage of the brothers portrays them as tentative, uncommitted characters. Their motives for the bombing have been treated as a troubling mystery, when there is in fact a very long record of statements and actions that leaves very little room for interpretation and doubt. Our desire to muddy these rather clear waters therefore says a lot more about us than it does about the Tsarnaev brothers.

Steven Emerson: Report: Hamas Recruiting Students in Malaysia, Training Terrorists in Turkey— Hamas is actively recruiting Palestinians studying in Malaysia to join the terrorist organization, according to an indictment of Hamas operative Waseem Qawasmeh, the Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC) reports. In a separate instance, a captured Hamas terrorist told interrogators that he was sent to Malaysia, along with nine others, in order to train using hang gliders for conducting a terrorist attack against Israel. Qawasmeh was charged in March with working with a banned organization and receiving money from it. In his indictment, prosecutors allege that Hamas directs Palestinian students and lecturers to engage in significant cultural and social activities at the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Through these activities, Hamas operatives recruit and finance people to train in Turkey for future deployment to the West Bank and carry out attacks against Israel. Israel’s domestic intelligence agency believes that 40 Palestinian students were recruited to Hamas’ military wing this way.

Nick Gass: Bob Gates: U.S. has no Middle East strategy ‘at all’— Former Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday that when it comes to the Middle East, he does not think the United States has a strategy “at all.” “We’re basically sort of playing this day to day,” Gates said in a discussion on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I think our interests remain important in the Middle East.” Gates said that during his “several decades” in the Situation Room, oil was never the reason for an invasion of the region. Early on, he said, the Soviet Union proved the impetus, and later it was Iran. “I think our interests are enduring, but I certainly don’t think we have a strategy,” the former defense secretary and CIA director said, adding that if Iraq begins to fall apart, Iran would only be emboldened in the region, noting concerns about unintended consequences of an independent Kurdistan, for example. Gates mentioned Turkey as one particular regional ally whose relations have frayed with the U.S. in recent years. “My own view is, you don’t walk away from the people that you’ve counted as your friends and allies for several decades. The question is, how should those relationships evolve?” he asked.

Michael Burleigh: Can ANYONE stop ISIS tearing the Middle East apart?— Commanders in Washington were congratulating themselves last weekend on the success of a Delta Force raid in which two dozen special forces troops were dropped into a town in Syria. Their attack resulted in the killing of a leading figure in Islamic State (or ISIS), a Tunisian called Abu Sayyaf. He is thought to have been in charge of the selling of millions of dollars worth of oil and gas for the terrorist organisation and to have taken an increased role in ISIS operations. But the celebrations in the Pentagon for this victory were short-lived and, as is painfully clear, horribly premature. For that raid has been eclipsed by the catastrophic fall of a city just 60 miles to the west of Baghdad into the hands of ISIS. The sudden capture of Ramadi is significant because it is the capital of Anbar province, a vast region to the west of the Iraqi capital dominated by Sunni Muslim tribes.

Naomi Friedman: Obama turns the Middle East into the Wild West— You’ve got a problem — a security problem? Don’t sweat it. President Obama has an answer. He’ll arm you. You say the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is attacking the Iraqi city of Ramadi? Stay calm. We’ve got it covered. Vice President Biden assured the Iraqi prime minister last Friday that the U.S. is fast-tracking AT-4 shoulder-held rockets and other heavy weaponry to Iraqi government troops — and their Iranian-backed militia allies. Of course, on Saturday, Ramadi fell to ISIS — which seized every opportunity to grab the U.S.-supplied arms left behind by the Iraqi army. You say the Syrian government is dropping chlorine gas bombs on its own civilians again? Well, what are you complaining about? Obama already sent the Free Syrian Army 3,000 tons of M16A assault rifles from Croatia, M79 anti-tank rockets from Saudi Arabia and most recently BGM-71 TOW armor-piercing anti-tank systems. The problem is … those weapons that were sent to the moderate Syrian rebels, the Free Syrian Amy, somehow wound up in the hands of the al Qaeda affiliate al Nusra Front and ISIS. Now, you say Iranian-backed Shiite rebels in Yemen are lobbing rockets and mortars into Saudi cities? Keep your hat — I mean crown — on, King Salman. Obama is setting up “a dedicated Foreign Military Sales procurement office to process GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council]-wide sales, streamlining third-party transfers, and exploring ways the United States could accelerate the acquisition and fielding of key capabilities,” or so says the White House press statement.

SnyderTalk Comment: When the dust settles, we’ll discover that the U.S. is up to its neck in this mess and that we are responsible for it.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 11

1 Now Yahweh said to Moses, “One more plague I will bring on Pharaoh and on Egypt; after that he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will surely drive you out from here completely. 2 Speak now in the hearing of the people that each man ask from his neighbor and each woman from her neighbor for articles of silver and articles of gold.” 3 Yahweh gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Furthermore, the man Moses himself was greatly esteemed in the land of Egypt, both in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
