Reuters—Iran’s Rouhani says nuclear deal possible only if sanctions lifted:
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Wednesday Tehran will not accept a comprehensive nuclear deal with major powers if all sanctions imposed on Tehran are not lifted, state television reported.
“If there is no end to sanctions, there will not be an agreement,” Rouhani said in a televised speech in the northern Iranian city of Rasht.
“The end of these negotiations and a signed deal must include a declaration of cancelling the oppressive sanctions on the great nation of Iran.”
Iran wants sanctions that include nuclear-related United Nations resolutions as well as U.S. and EU nuclear-related economic sanctions, to be lifted at once. The U.S. says that sanctions against Iran would be removed gradually.
In what was seen as a setback for Barack Obama, the U.S. president agreed on Tuesday that Congress should have the power to review any deal with Iran, backing down to pressure from Republicans and some in his own party.
The move blocks Obama’s ability to waive many U.S. sanctions on Tehran while Congress reviews the deal. It also allows Congress a final vote on whether to lift sanctions imposed by U.S. lawmakers.

That begs this question: From Rouhani’s perspective, what is a win-win situation?
A win-win situation is supposed to be one where all parties to the deal come out winners. Thus, the name “win-win”.
That’s not what Rouhani wants. From his perspective, a win-win situation is one where Iran can have its cake and eat it, too. Anything less is unacceptable.
That’s the Iran deal in a nutshell. It’s a great deal for Iran and a terrible deal for the rest of the world especially for Israel and Sunni Muslim countries in the Middle East.
I call people who think that way shysters. That’s what Rouhani is.

David Daoud: Yom HaShoah Report Shows Unprecedented 400 Percent Rise in Antisemitic Incidents in 2014— Since the beginning of 2014, there has been an unprecedented increase of 400 percent in the number of antisemitic incidents in Europe and around the world, as compared with 2013. The data showing the increase was collected as part of a special project by Israel’s NRGnews website and the Forum to Coordinate the Fight Against Antisemitism. The report, coming almost seventy years after the Holocaust and the end of World War II, shows that there is real concern for the future of world Jewry, and particularly European Jewry. The report also said that in 2014, the lines and boundaries between anti-Israeli and anti-Zionist rhetoric and actions and antisemitism became increasingly blurred.
SnyderTalk Comment: I think it’s fair and accurate to say that today’s anti-Israelism (a.k.a., anti-Zionism) is a growing and frightening contemporary form of anti-Semitism. I see it every day. I see it in comments made on some SnyderTalk posts and I see it in comments on the posts in the His Name is Yahweh Facebook Group.
Thankfully, I determine which comments get published on those websites.
I’m not suggesting that rabid Jew haters have ceased to exist. I’m simply saying that anti-Semites now have another alternative, one that doesn’t make them sound so much like Jew haters to the untrained ear.
In today’s world, anti-Israelism is a socially acceptable form of anti-Semitism.
Zechariah’s prophecy about all the nations of the world coming against Jerusalem comes to mind immediately. Global leaders who deny their hatred of Jewish people will come against Yahweh’s chosen people in the Promised Land because they say they are against Israel. That’s gibberish.
That logic sells well today. It may sell even better tomorrow.
Watch out. People may be deceitful and confused, but Yahweh isn’t. He knows exactly what’s going on.

Jerusalem Post Staff: Who’s brave enough to debate Caroline?—Less than two months before the annual Jerusalem Post Conference takes place in New York, a search is on to find a worthy opponent to face off against the Post’s formidable senior contributing editor Caroline Glick. A popular and outspoken columnist, Glick’s speeches have been the highlights of previous conferences, both in New York and most recently in Jerusalem. In addition to addressing the June 7 conference at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square, Glick is slated to debate a respected figure from the American liberal arena. J Street director Jeremy Ben- Ami had been scheduled to step up to the plate against Glick, but his director of communications informed the Post he had “a long-standing family engagement” he could not cancel.
SnyderTalk Comment: Glick really is well-informed, and she’s articulate, too. Armed with facts, she can shred any argument put forward by her opponent, any opponent.
It’s no surprise that J Street director Jeremy Ben-Ami does not want to debate her. She would make him look exactly like what he is—a radical, left-wing ideologue with lots of opinions and no factual support for his beliefs.
In the recesses of my mind, I can hear something that sounds like a chicken clucking.
The Daily Star—Lebanon Editorial: Ball is in Iran court— As the U.N. Security Council voted in favor of a resolution placing an arms embargo on Houthi leaders in Yemen, aimed at halting the fighting there, Iran floated its own draft plan in an attempt at deflecting attention from its own part in flaming the conflict. Rather predictably, Russia abstained from Tuesday’s vote, for, as ever, its preoccupations in the Middle East are motivated not by a genuine concern for the people of the region, or halting the bloodshed, but by its own commercial ambitions, and potential markets for arms sales. Refusing to comment on Saudi suggestions that Tehran is backing the Houthi rebellion in Yemen, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in Spain spoke of the need for his own version of a peace plan, which sets no preconditions for dialogue. If Iran is serious about wanting fighting to stop in Yemen, it must not simply draft up meaningless “peace plans,” but it must encourage its Houthi proxies to put down their weapons and engage in genuine dialogue with Yemeni President Abed Rabbou Mansour Hadi, as they had vowed to do before suddenly deciding to press on with their armed revolt across the country.
John Bolton: Why the Iran Deal Will Trigger a Nuclear Arms Race— Specifics of Barack Obama’s incipient deal legitimizing Iran’s nuclear-weapons program (and even whether a final understanding can be reached) will doubtless provoke debate for the next several months. The separate, often contradictory claims announced in Lausanne on April 2 hardly meet the dictionary definition of “agreement.” But beyond the still-evolving accord’s evanescent terms are larger strategic implications. While Obama has hinted at his vision of U.S. relations with Iran, his real objective remains unknown. Most dramatically, some speculate that the White House dreams the nuclear deal will trigger sweeping changes in Tehran, which will evolve from the 1979 Islamic Revolution’s ideology and become a “normal” Middle Eastern state. In reality, no other regional power believes evidence of such developments is even vaguely on the horizon.
SnyderTalk Comment: Optimistic speculation about Obama’s real intentions is becoming increasingly difficult to accept. Most people realize that he hasn’t told us everything and that he has an agenda. We are left to guess about what it might be.
I believe that Obama’s purposes are sinister. The facts support that conclusion. That’s why I’m not happy about where we are heading.
Clifford D. May: The case for heresy— By now, you should be familiar with the name Ayaan Hirsi Ali. You should know at least this much about her: She is brilliant, beautiful, black, and she has been banned near Boston. You might also have learned that she was born in Somali and raised as a devout Muslim in Africa and Saudi Arabia. While a teenager, she joined the Muslim Brotherhood, “believed in jihad” and was “ready for holy war.” But in 1992, to avoid an arranged marriage, she sought asylum in the Netherlands, where she eked out a living cleaning factories, learned Dutch, went to college, entered politics and won a seat in the Dutch Parliament. And then: She wrote a documentary about the plight of women under Islam. Soon afterward, the producer, Theo van Gogh, was murdered in the street by a Dutch-Moroccan Muslim who considered it his duty to punish those who criticize his religion. He left a note — pinned with a knife to his victim’s body — threatening Hirsi Ali’s life as well.
Max Boot: Rare Bipartisanship in Congress over Iran—Rare bipartisanship prevailed in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to force President Obama to submit any Iranian nuclear deal for congressional approval. Ironically, this legislation could actually strengthen Obama’s hand with the Iranians: Secretary of State John Kerry can now plausibly tell his Iranian interlocutors that, however much he would like to concede their points, Congress won’t stand for it. The basic message, from Democrats and Republicans alike, is that there is deep unease in Congress, as well as in the country at large, about the terms of the accord, and for good cause. As former Secretaries of State George Shultz and Henry Kissinger have noted, “negotiations that began 12 years ago as an international effort to prevent an Iranian capability to develop a nuclear arsenal are ending with an agreement that concedes this very capability.”
Jane Corbin: Could Christianity be driven from Middle East?— Can Christianity survive, in the face of persecution and conflict, in the region of its birth? The BBC’s Jane Corbin travelled across the Middle East – through Iraq and Syria – to investigate the plight of Christians, as hundreds of thousands flee Islamic militancy in the region. As I climbed the steep mountain path above the plain of Nineveh, Iraq, the sound of monks chanting and the smell of incense drifted out of the 4th Century monastery of St Matthew. Once, 7,000 monks worshipped here when Christianity was the official religion of the Roman empire. Almost the whole population was Christian then. Their numbers have dwindled and now there are only six monks – and no pilgrims dare to visit. “We are on the frontline with Isis and people are afraid to come here,” Father Yusuf told me. “We are worried about everything: our people, our family, Christianity.”
Robert Fulford: The Plight of Palestinian Women—The position of women today in the West Bank and Gaza provides chilling insight into what life in a Palestinian state will be like if that state ever becomes a reality. According to the official daily paper of the PA, Al-Hayat al-Jadida, about half of Palestinian women have been exposed to domestic violence. In 2014 a senior official in the PA Ministry of Women’s Affairs reported a 100% increase in “family honor” killings. Zainab Al-Ghneimi, who runs the Women’s Legal Counselling Center, believes that a Palestinian husband assumes the right of ownership. Typically, Al-Ghneimi says, a man believes he has bought the woman and paid for her. She has become his property and must obey his orders. The PA newspaper claims that many women accept violence as their due.
Khaled Abu Toameh: Is more going on between Israel and the Palestinians than meets the eye?—The decision by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories to allow Palestinian doctors to enter Israel with their vehicles has left some Palestinians wondering whether Israel and the Palestinian Authority are maintaining secret back-channel talks. The latest COGAT decision regarding Palestinian vehicles follows a series of steps Israel has taken since its March 17 elections. These steps stand in sharp contrast to reports about growing tensions between Israel and the PA, especially in the wake of the Palestinian decision to join the International Criminal Court and threats to suspend security coordination between the two sides. Israel’s first gesture came even before the election, when Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon ordered water to be hooked up to the new Palestinian city of Rawabi.
Soeren Kern: German Anti-Islamization Movement Seeks Comeback— Dutch politician Geert Wilders addressed a rally of the German grassroots anti-Islamization movement known as PEGIDA in the eastern city of Dresden on April 13. PEGIDA organizers were hoping that Wilders’s appearance would inject new life into the group after a recent leadership split cast doubt on its future. Despite excellent weather, however, only 10,000 people showed up for the event, far fewer than the 30,000 attendees that PEGIDA had been expecting. Wilders told the crowd gathered in Dresden that there is “nothing wrong with being proud German patriots. There is nothing wrong with wanting Germany to remain free and democratic. There is nothing wrong with preserving our own Judeo-Christian civilization. That is our duty.” He added: “Most of the politicians, media, churches and academics are looking away from the threat of Islamization. They are afraid. But you are not.
Yaakov Lappin: Russia-Iran Missile Deal Major Threat to Middle East— Middle East regional instability is set to worsen after Russia’s lifting of its ban on the delivery of the advanced S-300 air defense missile system to Iran. Russia’s decision on April 13 to lift the ban is a highly dangerous development, which might well further destabilize the Middle East, and has serious potential to spark new conflicts. The S-300 is one of the world’s most advanced surface-to-air missile defense systems. Designed as a truck-mounted air defense battery, it can also be used as an offensive weapon, thanks to its long range and ability to track and strike many planes simultaneously. If Russia follows through on its pledge to deliver the S-300 to Iran, the Iranians could then smuggle these sophisticated weapons into Syria, and from there, use a cross-border network to move the missiles on to Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Moshe Phillips and Benyamin Korn: Illegal Immigrants in America and Israel— Here’s a question. Why do so many American Jewish liberals sympathize with illegal immigrants to America, yet vilify those whom they consider “illegal” Israeli settlers in Judea and Samaria? If you stop and think about it, it makes no logical sense. Foreign nationals who sneak across America’s borders are obviously breaking the law. They did not apply for permission to enter, in accordance with our country’s immigration laws. They did not wait their turn, as legal immigrants do. Nonetheless, many Jewish liberals believe that America’s illegals should not be punished for that crime, but rather be allowed to remain in the United States and, sooner or later, granted citizenship. Advocates of legalizing the illegals say that is the humane, compassionate thing to do. After all, most of the illegals have come from underdeveloped countries, in search of a better life. They are hoping to leave behind the poverty and insecurity of their native lands. America is a land of plenty, and we should be willing to share with them, beyond already generous U.S. quotas for legal immigrants. Or so the argument goes.
Michael Rubin: Getting U.S.-Iranian History Wrong—In defense of President Barack Obama’s empathy with Iran, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman gets Iranian history wrong. Friedman describes how: “We, the United States, back in the ’50s, we toppled Iran’s democratically-elected government. You know, there might be some reason these people actually want to get a weapon that will deter that from happening again.” The idea for the coup was British because Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddeq had nationalized the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company (a predecessor of British Petroleum) and then refused to negotiate. The U.S. was more concerned by Mosaddeq’s pro-Soviet proclivities. So, too, were the Iranians themselves, especially the military and the clergy. That’s right, the folks who run the Islamic Republic today were co-conspirators with the U.S. and deeply opposed to Mosaddeq’s anti-clerical attitudes. At the time of the coup, Mohammad Reza Shah was a popular head of state whom Mosaddeq was seeking to force out in order to assume dictatorial power himself. Moreover, the idea that the 1953 coup motivates the Iranian nuclear program is bizarre. The resurrection of the Iranian nuclear program after the 1979 Islamic Revolution can be traced more to Iraqi chemical weapons attacks on Iran. The assumption that grievance motivates the Iranian nuclear drive is lazy thinking and belies a fundamental misunderstanding of the Islamic Revolution and the Islamic Republic, which at its heart is an ideological state that seeks to export its revolution.

SnyderTalk Comment: Israel is not about politics, partisan or otherwise. It’s about faith in Yahweh. Either you have it or you don’t.
Faithless people resent, demonize, and try to marginalize people who have faith. They think they are doing it for the good of mankind, but whether they know it or not, they are following their master and he’s not Yahweh.
This is an example of what I mean. See “Religious Fanaticism is a Huge Factor in Americans’ Support for Israel”:
“The answer should make everyone quite uncomfortable: it’s religious fanaticism. The U.S. media loves to mock adversary nations, especially Muslim ones, for being driven by religious extremism, but that is undeniably a major factor, arguably the most significant one, in explaining fervent support for Israel among the American populace. In reporting its poll findings, Bloomberg observed: ‘Religion appears to play an important role in shaping the numbers. Born-again Christians are more likely than overall poll respondents, 58 percent to 35 percent, to back Israel regardless of U.S. interests. Americans with no religious affiliation were the least likely to feel this way, at 26 percent.’”
Many people equate religion and faith, but they are not the same thing. The article quoted above presents a fanatical religious view. The religion is hedonism. It permeates the lives of its devotees and drives every decision they make.
When people reject hedonism and demonstrate faith in Yahweh, hedonists go nuts. It makes no sense to them because they don’t know Yahweh.
Israel is only one of the issues dividing people who have faith in Yahweh and run-of-the-mill hedonists. Sodomy and abortion are two others. There are many more.
It boils down to this: if Yahweh says it’s bad, hedonists say it’s good. If Yahweh says it’s good, hedonists say it’s bad.
It’s a spiritual battle, and hedonists are pawns in the game. Just because they are pawns does not mean that they will avoid accountability.
Each of us must choose sides. It’s inescapable. No decision is deciding against Yahweh.
As I said, it is not about politics, and it’s not about Israel. It’s about Yahweh. Hedonists can’t or won’t accept it. One day they will. For most of them, it will be too late.
