Steve Apfel—Behind Obama’s love affair with Iran:
In downtown Buenos Aires there is a cream painted building locked down like Fort Knox. Alongside the building is a billboard, but it’s no suave ad for Kelvin Klein. The billboard is black, and eighty five names, handwritten in white, cover it from top to bottom.
They are mainly the names of Jews. Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorists murdered the eighty five when they blew up the Jewish community building, badly injuring many more. This happened in 1994.
Lately, Argentinian President Cristina de Kirchner, another Eva Peron in her beauty and blinding ambition, has been bartering with Iran: a cover-up of the crime in exchange for Iranian oil and Argentine grain.
To add to the witch’s brew, the prosecutor who spent a decade compiling a million page case on the bombing, and was about to testify on the cover-up of de Kirchner and her cronies, got a bullet to the head in his bathtub. His name was Alberto Nisman. Last year he indicted a Hezbollah man and some former Iranian officials of high rank, for whom arrest warrants were then issued.
Now comes word that American President Obama tipped his own bag of tricks into the bubbling pot. Diplomatic sources have told World Tribune that the US pressed Argentina to end, or at least fudge the investigation of Iran’s involvement in the bombing of the Jewish building.
It was to be Iran’s quid pro quo for a thaw in relations with America and Europe. At one high-level meeting the US boldly asked Argentina “to lay off, according to a source close to de Kirchner. “Buenos Aires,” said the source, “eventually complied.”

SnyderTalk Comment: I won’t go through the litany of serious mistakes that Barack Obama has made during his 6 years in office because there are too many, but none of them have been more problematic than the ones listed below:
- his betrayal of Israel,
- his igniting the “Arab Spring”,
- his refusal to associate our Islamist terrorist enemies with Islam and stanchly claiming that Islamists aren’t Muslims,
- and his soft-pedaling approach to Iran while the mullahs move toward having a nuclear arsenal and missiles capable of reaching the West.
As Steve Apfel said, “Now comes word that American President Obama tipped his own bag of tricks into the bubbling pot [in Argentina]. Our president is working hard behind the diplomatic scenes to protect Iran. Why? What logic would lead him to interfere in an investigation in another country to protect Iran?
Those are difficult questions to answer, and I don’t expect the White House to enlighten us any time soon. But this is the most troubling question of all: whose side is Obama on?
As Alice of Wonderland famously said, “Things are getting curiouser and curiouser.”

Taylor Luck: In Hamas leader’s exit from Qatar, signs of growing Saudi-Egyptian influence—Hamas political leader Khaled Meshal, arguably Qatar’s most famous resident, has lost his base of political operations in Doha, the departure marking a deeper geopolitical shift taking hold in the region. While the reasons for Mr. Meshal’s departure for Turkey in late December were cloaked initially by official denials from both Hamas and Qatar – Meshal’s refuge and base of operations since fleeing unrest in Damascus in January 2012 – Hamas officials and observers now say it was brought about by pressure from Qatar’s Arab Gulf neighbors. The main force at play in the region is a strengthening of an Egyptian-Saudi axis that is increasingly hostile to Islamists, particularly the Muslim Brotherhood, of which Hamas is the Palestinian chapter.
Jonathan Tobin: Obama’s Hollow Threats of Revenge on Bibi— The latest twist in the long-running feud between Barack Obama and Benjamin Netanyahu has reached a new stage. After days of ill-concealed umbrage about the prime minister accepting an invitation to [speak] to a joint session of Congress about Iran sanctions without so much as a by your leave from the administration, the White House decided to fire its own shot across the bow of Israel’s government. A “senior U.S. official” told Haaretz that the president and his staff think Netanyahu “spat” in the president’s face with his actions and vowed “there would be a price” to be paid for his effrontery. But whatever one may think about the decision to accept the invitation — and I think it was a mistake — Obama’s threats shouldn’t impress anyone in either country.
Shlomo Cesana, Yori Yalon, Nitzi Yakov, Yoni Hersch and Israel Hayom Staff: ‘World more dangerous when the Jewish people are silent’— Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington “is not intended to show any disrespect” for U.S. President Barack Obama, Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer said on Sunday in an address at an Israel Bonds gala dinner in Florida. “Israel deeply appreciates the strong support we have received from President Obama in many areas — the enhanced security cooperation, heightened intelligence sharing, generous military assistance and Iron Dome funding, and opposition to anti-Israel initiatives at the United Nations,” Dermer said. “The prime minister’s visit is also not intended to wade into your political debate,” Dermer noted. “Israel deeply appreciates the strong bipartisan support we enjoy in the American Congress — where Democrats and Republicans come together to support Israel — just as Israel appreciates the wide and deep support that it enjoys among the American people. Rather, the prime minister’s visit to Washington is intended for one purpose — and one purpose only. To speak up while there is still time to speak up. To speak up when there is still time to make a difference.”
Uzay Bulut: Islamic Terrorism: The Taboo Topic— Shhhh! We can talk today of all religions but one. We can question all religions but one today. We know that any question of Islam can be taken as a criticism, and put our lives at risk, as seen most recently in Paris with the murders of the staff of Charlie Hebdo magazine. It is the only religion that people — including the apologists for “Islamophobia” — have to think ten times before discussing. At the same time, it is the same religion that is perpetually associated with “peace.” Why should anyone be afraid of a “religion of peace”? Because some of its supporters threaten to kill you, and often do. Is there even one critic of Islam who has not received a threat, or been able to live freely without worrying about his or her safety? We are now living in a world where, if a prominent critic of Islam stays alive, or out of a court of law, it is considered almost a miracle — in both the Muslim world and the West.
Burak Bekdil: Turkey’s Dance with Jihadists— Turkish columnist Anmet Hakan was curious why the articles of the Turkish Penal Code that regulate “praising crime and criminals” were never applied to Islamists, while Turkish prosecutors, citing the same article, have the habit of indicting thousands of other individuals. On January 16, Muslims in Istanbul’s devout Fatih district went to the mosque for their usual Friday prayers. Before crowds appeared in front of the mosque, everything looked normal. It was going to be just another day of quiet prayers. But this time, mosque-goers gathered earlier than the usual hour. They were there to hold funeral services (in absentia) for the terrorists who perpetrated the murderous attack on Charlie Hebdo in Paris — the Kouachi brothers. Then the worshippers at the mosque held a demonstration with a banner and placards:
- “If freedom of expression has no limits, be prepared for our freedom to commit actions with no limits.”
- “We are threatening (you)! Do you dare?”
- “We are all Kouachi” (in what appears like the Turkish response to the Charlie Hebdo slogan ‘Je suis Charlie’)
Khaled Abu Toameh: Islamic state deepens grip in future Palestine— According to Israeli security forces, dozens of Hamas and Islamic Jihad members in the West Bank have defected to the Islamic State in recent months. Their main goal, according to sources, is to topple the Palestinian Authority and launch terror attacks on Israel. Some 200 supporters of the Islamic State, who held up Islamic State flags, took to the streets of Gaza City to protest the latest cartoons published by the French satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo. They also chanted slogans that called for slaughtering French nationals, and burned French flags. Attempts by Hamas to impose a news blackout on the protest failed, as photos and videos found their way to social media. The glorification of terrorists and jihadists by the Palestinian Authority, and the ongoing anti-Israel incitement by both Hamas and the Palestinian Authority, is driving many Palestinians into the open arms of the Islamic State.
Ron Jager: Netanyahu hunting season officially opened— In recent weeks as the Benjamin Netanyahu hunting season get its official kick off with the White House and its current tenant, President Obama shooting the opening shot, it’s no wonder that throughout the Jewish world there is a hesitancy to stand up and be counted against the tsunami of BiBi hatred and demonization. For the past 6 years, paralleling the Obama Presidency, we have witnessed a worldwide emergence of anti-Semitism unseen since the dark days of Jewish history prior to World War II. President Obama and European leaders have come out publicly against the new anti-Semitism and how they deeply regret the new persecution of Jews throughout the world, however when one examines the hatred and demonization conveyed by the White House and others at Benjamin Netanyahu, one can only come to the conclusion that President Obama and many of his European cohorts have nothing but revulsion for Netanyahu the Jew. Netanyahu is a fierce opponent of the emerging U.S. nuclear agreement with the Islamic republic of Iran and has served as a kind of thorn in Obama’s backside, of sorts, as the negotiations have progressed. When it comes to Iran, many Republicans and Democrats in the Capitol seem more closely aligned with Netanyahu than with Obama. This little known fact has made President Obama climb the walls. Prime Minister Netanyahu has addressed Congress twice in the past and in 2011, he received a raucous welcome typically reserved for an American president. Netanyahu has left no stone unturned in his pursuit to deter Irans’ developing nuclear capability. What the American public and the European public fail to understand is that an Iranian nuclear missile arsenal threatens not only Israel, but mainland American and continental Europe as well.
Rabbi Benjamin Blech: Charlie Hebdo: All Is Forgiven?— The brutal terrorists in Paris who murdered 12 of the staff of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo didn’t succeed in shutting it down. On the contrary. Millions marched in response to the horrific violence and in support of the principle of freedom of speech. The paper that offended Muslims because of its depiction of their prophet Mohammed quickly came out with a new edition. And to the dismay of those who sought to still its voice, this one reached a far greater number of readers than any in its past history – or for that matter any print run ever recorded for the French press. Charlie Hebdo usually had an average number of 60,000 copies. The survivor’s issue was to have a one-million-copy print run; it was increased to 3 million, then 5 million, and finally 7 million copies. The previous record for any publication was 2.2 million for an issue of France-Soir on the death of Charles de Gaulle. Subsequently it has since been translated into five languages: English, Italian, Spanish, Arabic and Turkish, and there are now plans for it to be sold in 25 countries and translated into 16 languages. Obviously, the world was profoundly interested in seeing how Charlie Hebdo would respond in the aftermath of its near-death experience. The first cover was anxiously awaited. And it did not disappoint – at least on one level.
Moshe Phillips and Benyamin Korn: Once Again, Indyk Interferes on Israel— The former U.S. Ambassador to Israel, Martin Indyk, has called on Israel’s leaders “to stay out of America’s politics” – just hours after he urged the United States to interfere in Israel’s politics, something he himself has been doing for years. The latest events began with John Boehner’s invitation to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address a joint session of the U.S. Congress. The New York Times quickly sought a comment from Indyk, who is constantly quoted by the news media since the conclusion of his singularly unsuccessful term as the Obama Administration’s chief envoy for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. “Netanyahu is using the Republican Congress for a photo-op for his election campaign,” said Indyk, who apparently finds it inconceivable that the prime minister of Israel might want to speak to Congress about using Congressional sanctions to prevent Iran from nuking Israel. “And the Republicans are using Bibi for their campaign against Obama… It would be far wiser for us to stay out of their politics and for them to stay out of ours.”
Dexter Van Zile: Some Urgent Questions for the Publisher of ‘The Christian Century’— On Sunday, January 25, Rev. Dr. John Buchanan, editor and publisher of The Christian Century – the house organ for mainline Protestantism in the U.S. – will speak about interfaith relations at the Grace Lutheran Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Buchanan is giving his 7 p.m. talk just hours from a Jewish community center in Overland Park, Kansas, where, on April 13, 2014, a white supremacist killed a physician and his 14-year-old grandson, fled the scene, and then killed a woman outside a Jewish retirement home a mile away. His three victims were not Jews, but the killer admitted that the attack was motivated by anti-Semitism. While sitting in the police car after his arrest, Frazier Glenn Miller shouted “Heil Hitler.” The New York Times reported that he was the “founder and grand dragon of the Carolina Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.” Miller, a big fan of David Duke, was looking to kill some Jews, but in his haste decided that killing people outside Jewish-owned and operated buildings was good enough.
Dan Margalit: No room for capitulation— If radical Islamists had been members of an English gentlemen’s club, seeking to tone down cartoons depicting the founder of their religion, the Prophet Muhammad, in a negative light, the Jews would have been the first ones to assist them, because that is the way of the civilized world, because being sensitive to others is a mark of successful cooperation, and because the Jews remember all too well what it felt like to see the Nazi newspaper Der Sturmer run cartoons depicting Jews as rats. There is no need to demand, threaten or coerce. All you have to do is ask. Civility goes a long way, and there is nothing wrong with it. On the contrary, it is usually the recommended course of action. Reality, however, is different. Radical Islamists feel fundamentally entitled, believing they are entitled to force the enlightened world to forfeit freedom of opinion, speech and expression. Failure to meet their demands meets violence and murderous terrorism, as was the case in the Jan. 7 attack on the offices of the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.
