Obama is AWOL on Ebola

CDC Director Thomas Frieden said that he hasn’t seen anything like Ebola since AIDS.  Neither have I, and the U.S. government really botched that one.

When it first appeared on the scene, AIDS was confined almost exclusively to homosexuals, bisexuals, and prostitutes.  A few hemophiliacs and intravenous drug users caught the disease because of contaminated blood and contaminated needles, but other than that, AIDS was held in check.  At that point, simply quarantining anyone who tested positive for HIV would have solved the problem.

That was 1981.  Homosexuals were just beginning to demand protection under U.S. law as a “minority group”.  For “liberal” thinkers in the 1980s who were expanding “constitutional rights” at light speed, quarantining homosexuals was out of the question.

The term “politically correct” entered the mainstream in the early 1990s to describe politically popular but foolish federal government policies.  HIV/AIDS was one of the primary catalysts that gave rise to the term.

Fast forward to 2014:

  • 36 million people worldwide have died because of HIV/AIDS.
  • 35.3 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS.
  • More than 1.1 million people in the U.S. have died because of HIV/AIDS.
  • In 2012, roughly 2.3 million new cases of HIV/AIDS were reported.

There is nothing “liberal” about inflicting that kind of punishment on unsuspecting people who rely on their government to protect them.  In fact, it’s stupid.  And no one has a “constitutional right” to infect people with deadly diseases that can be avoided with minimal precautions.  In fact, it’s criminal.

There are many differences between HIV and Ebola, but this one is crucial: HIV requires physical contact and the exchange of body fluids to advance.  Ebola doesn’t.  Some scientists tell us that it can be contracted by breathing contaminated air in tight spaces such as planes, trains, and automobiles, for example, or by merely touching infected objects including infected people.

There is another crucial difference between HIV and Ebola.  HIV takes years to kill its victims.  Sometimes it takes decades.  Ebola kills 70% of its victims horrendously within a matter of days.  In the time it took me to write this paragraph, scores of people in the United States could have contracted the Ebola virus.  By this time next week, most of them will be dead.  Worst of all, Ebola spreads in a geometric progression as contact networks intersect.  The longer infected people walk the streets, the more innocent people will be infected.

With a potent killer like Ebola, you would expect that our government would be well prepared and extra cautious.  That’s wishful thinking in this day and age.  Thomas Eric Duncan died from Ebola in Dallas, Texas after having been sent home with a 103o fever by medical professionals.  It didn’t dawn on them that the fact he had just returned from Liberia where the Ebola epidemic has already claimed thousands of lives might be important.  On his way to and from the medical facility, there is no telling how many people he infected, including members of his family.

We already know that one healthcare employee at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital who cared for Duncan tested positive for Ebola in preliminary tests.  “If confirmed, it would be the first known person-to-person transmission of the disease in the United States.”  It’s safe to assume that there will be others.  At this point, how many is anybody’s guess.

Appearing on ABC’s This Week, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the CDC’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, explained how the Dallas healthcare worker contracted the disease: “She must have violated protocol.”

That’s the point.  Healthcare providers are in the dark about proper procedures or they have serious gaps in their training.  Whatever the case may be, mistakes happen under the best of circumstances and more mistakes occur as circumstances deteriorate.  There is no telling how many people the Dallas healthcare worker may have infected before she was tested.  It may have been zero, but it could just as easily have been many.  Time will tell.

Duncan’s family is angry about the poor quality of healthcare that he received in Dallas.  I’m angry, too, but probably not for the same reason they are.  I’m angry because the Ebola problem has been developing for weeks and it’s been getting worse by the day.  Even so, the federal government hasn’t prepared for a potential outbreak that could cost many lives.  At this point, so-called “experts” don’t even know what they don’t know, and they won’t know until they have data points.  Those data points are dead bodies.  Ebola is like HIV in that regard.

Why the delay?  The answer is that no one in the U.S. healthcare apparatus is in charge of the Ebola threat:

The answer [to the question “who’s in charge?”] seems to be — there really isn’t one person or agency. There is not a single national response.

The Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has emerged as the standard-bearer — and sometimes the scapegoat — on Ebola.

Public health is the purview of the states, and as the nation anticipates more Ebola cases, some experts say the way the United States handles public health is not up to the challenge.

“Not up to the challenge.”  That’s putting it mildly.  Where Ebola is concerned, at every level of government we are totally unprepared.   Our federal, state, and local governments are guessing and using ad hoc procedures that may or may not work to prevent the spread of this terrible disease.

It’s even worse at the global level.  The U.N. has gone on record that we should not attempt to restrict air travel to and from countries where Ebola is spreading like a wildfire even though that’s one of the ways a localized disease becomes a global contagion:

The UN remains staunchly opposed to travel bans to countries affected by the recent deadly Ebola epidemic.

At last Thursday’s United Nations Headquarter’s daily briefing, in response to Arutz Sheva’s question as to whether UN Secretary GeneralBan Ki Moon’s stance against a travel ban to and from Ebola-infected countries was based on a quantitative analysis, Ms. Vannina Maestracci, the UN Associate Spokesperson, cited the UN Secretary General’s “repeated” position against any such travel bans. She later cited as the Secretary General’s definitive reference, last month’s Ebola World Health Organization (WHO) Risk Assessment.

The president is the only person in the United States who has the power to bring federal, state, and local governments together in a coordinated fashion to deal with problems like this one.  Barack Obama is that man.

The president has a constitutional duty to make sure that problems like this one are solved before they turn into catastrophes.  Obama is not doing his job.

Obama ran for president twice, and he won twice.  He wanted the job.  Why isn’t he doing it?

Obama’s policies in many areas have been putting our lives at risk since the day he took office.  Thanks to the Ebola virus, that fact may become obvious to almost everyone.  People in Dallas are beginning to get the picture already.  The rest of the country will quickly follow if the Ebola virus spreads.

Aaron David Miller: Barack Obama, disappointer in chief—All presidents disappoint. It comes with the job, the unreasonable expectations Americans have for their presidents, and the inherent conflict and disconnect between campaigning (promising people all they can have) and governing (explaining to people why they won’t get it). So Barack Obama isn’t the first president to fail to meet expectations — and he won’t be the last. But he has come to embody something else, too: the risks and travails of reaching for greatness in the presidency without the crisis, character and capacity necessary to achieve it. “Now, there are some who question the scale of our ambitions, who suggest that our system cannot tolerate too many big plans,” the new president declared in his 2009 inaugural address to a 1.8 million-strong crowd on the Mall. “. . . What the cynics fail to understand is that the ground has shifted beneath them, that the stale political arguments that have consumed us for so long no longer apply.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Vice President Biden said, “We’ll follow them to the gates of hell.”  Someone in the crowd screamed out, “Joe, they’re coming across the border.”

Kevin Sieff: Liberia had only a handful of doctors. Then came Ebola.— They were among the only Liberians who could treat Ebola, and in a single morning, it felt as if they were being picked off one by one. First, before dawn on Thursday, Ebola killed Dr. John Tata. Then, hours later, Dr. Thomas Scotland tested positive for the virus. With only a few dozen Liberian physicians in a country facing the biggest Ebola outbreak in history, it was a crippling blow. One Ebola treatment center closed its doors. Several of its hygienists and clinicians quit. Others left their shifts early to weep quietly outside. The United States and other foreign donors are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on infrastructure and medical supplies to stem the tide of Ebola in West Africa. But the biggest constraint is not the lack of hospitals — it is the lack of doctors and nurses to fill them, as key Liberian health-care workers contract the disease or resign out of fear that they will be next. Even for those medical workers who are used to tragedy, Thursday brought a different kind of pain.

Holly Bailey: Boston bombing suspect Tsarnaev allegedly knew of brother’s role in 2011 murders—Federal prosecutors have identified a witness prepared to testify that Boston Marathon bombings suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev knew his older brother and alleged accomplice, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, participated in 2011 triple murder outside Boston. The disclosure was made by Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s defense team in a federal court filing late Friday, as part of a larger push by his attorneys to gain access to “discovery” evidence compiled by the federal government in its case against Tsarnaev for the April 2013 bombings which killed three and injured several hundred near the marathon’s finish line. The Sept. 11, 2011, murders–which occurred in Waltham, Mass., a suburb of Boston–remain officially unsolved. But the murders, which were initially written off by local police as a drug deal gone bad, have become a plot point in the Boston bombings case amid evidence that Tamerlan Tsarnaev was involved. This is the first time there’s been a suggestion that his younger brother might have been aware of his alleged participation in the murders—which some have said, if solved, might have prevented the marathon attacks.

Conservative Infidel: KOBANI: Islamic State beheads 3 female fighters as one blows herself up taking several Islamic State fighters with her ***GRAPHIC***—A Syrian Kurd woman, member of The People’s Protection Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Gel – YPG) who was fighting for her family has been beheaded by takfiri terrorist of ISIS in Kobane. According to reports, takfiri killer who shared his photo with head of a YPG’s fighter has been sent to hell by YPG. The reported advance came despite intense air raids by the US-led coalition on ISIS positions around the strategic town. Kurdish media outlets said coalition warplanes targeted the ISIS militants on the southern side of Mishte Nur and in the nearby village of Halanj as well as Mazraa Dawud, a few kilometers east of Kobani along the Turkish border. The nearly three-week intense battle for the strategic town of Kobani has forced about 200,000 of people to take refuge in Turkey. The ISIS controls large areas of Syria’s east and north. The group sent its militants into Iraq in June, seizing large parts of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq. They have carried out heinous crimes in the two countries, including mass executions and beheadings of people.

Jerusalem Post Editorial: The Kobani slaughter—In mid-September, the Islamic State terrorists launched a coordinated assault on the Kurdish enclave of Kobani in Syria, near the Turkish border. As Islamic State rolled through 21 Kurdish villages, more than 45,000 people escaped across the frontier. By October, more than 180,000 Kurdish refugees were estimated to be in Turkey. Since that initial assault, Islamic State has been strangling the Kurdish forces defending the city. By Thursday, Islamic State fighters had reportedly seized more than a third of Kobani, although the US military said Kurdish forces appeared to be holding out. The world stands by as Islamic State continues the ethnic-cleansing and mass murder that it has conducted across Syria and Iraq. But most shameful is the fact that the Turkish army has sat just across the border and watched the carnage in Kobani.

Pamela Geller: Non-Muslim Female Fighter Kills Herself to Avoid being Islamic State Hostage— Ceylan Ozalp, 19, was reportedly surrounded by ISIS fighters near the Syrian Kurdish city of Kobane also known as Ain al-Arab. After she run out of ammunition Ozalp said “goodbye” over the radio and spent her last bullet on killing herself. She knew. She knew what these devout Muslims do to non-Muslim girls. This woman is a heroine. True courage. Another freedom loving people Obama abandoned in support of the jihad movement. “Prosperous are the believers who in their prayers are humble and from idle talk turn away and at almsgiving are active and guard their private parts save from their wives and what their right hands own then being not blameworthy.” (Quran 23:1-6)

Sky News: Canada suspects 80 returnees of ‘terror’—Canada says 80 citizens and immigrants who recently returned from war zones including Iraq and Syria are suspected of having links to ‘terrorism’ groups. The suspects were planning ‘terrorist activity’ on Canadian soil and are accused of working with the Islamic State organisation in Iraq and Syria, where a US-led coalition is launching air strikes against the jihadists. ‘These dangerous individuals have a desire to commit terrorist activity and pose serious threat to law-abiding Canadians,’ Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney said. The comments come a day after Canadian lawmakers voted to join the air campaign against Islamic State militants in Iraq. The 80 suspects are accused of violating Canadian law, which criminalises participation in ‘terrorist’ activities abroad.

Soeren Kern: Gang Rapes, ‘Junior Jihadists’ and Runaway Sharia— Islam-related issues were widespread in Britain during the month of September 2014. What follows is a summary of the main stories, presented in three broad themes. 1. Islamic Extremism and Syria-Related Threats. The House of Commons on September 26 voted 524 to 43 to approve a request by British Prime Minister David Cameron to join the American-led coalition against the jihadist group Islamic State [IS], but only in Iraq, not in Syria where the IS has established its headquarters. The vote came after IS jihadists decapitated the British aid worker David Haines in Syria on September 14. In a politically correct statement on the beheading, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg claimed that the murder had nothing to do with Islam. “No religion could possibly justify such grotesque acts,” he declared.

Stephanie Butnick: Leon Wieseltier Schools Colbert on Liberalism— Leon Wieseltier, The New Republic’s literary editor, appeared on The Colbert Report last night to mark the magazine’s 100th anniversary and promote their new collection of essays from the past century, and he accomplished a rare feat: he made Stephen Colbert laugh, temporarily breaking character. After dismissing The New Republic as a “liberal rag,” Colbert proceeded to pepper his unflappable guest with a series of questions, chief among them what it actually means to be a cultural critic. Colbert requests a critique of today’s culture in 10 words or less, to which Wieseltier coolly replies, “Too much digital, not enough critical thinking, more physical reality” (I would’ve added ‘not enough cats,’ but whatever). Colbert looks shocked as he counts out the 10 words, admitting no one’s ever successfully done that on the show before. The highlight is when Colbert asks Wieseltier what the difference between liberals and progressives are, and Wieseltier explains that though they’re often lumped together, progressives generally fall further to the left politically than The New Republic.

Pamela Geller: Michigan: Mother Outraged over school assignment requiring students to proselytize for Islam— Proselytizing for Islam has increasingly become part of the public school curriculum nationwide. Common Core is notorious for this. This islamization of the public school is well documented in my bestseller, Stop the Islamization of America. Read it. This is dawah — a religious imperative in Islam to invite, preach Islam to the non-believer. The curriculum does not include the wholesale slaughter of hundreds of Muslims non-Muslims and heretics  in jihad wars, land appropriations, annihilations and enslavements. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism are not promoted and preached. But parents must demand equal proselytizing time. This is a violation of the establishment clause.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 33: 18-20

18 Now Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram, and camped before the city. 19 He bought the piece of land where he had pitched his tent from the hand of the sons of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. 20 Then he erected there an altar and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

SnyderTalk Comment: El-Elohe-Israel means “the mighty God of Israel”.  A preposition isn’t included, but it is implied.  Thus, a correct reading would be “[to or for] the might God of Israel”.

Jacob used the name Israel because that is the name Yahweh gave him.  He was not referring to the country Israel since it didn’t exist at that time.  The country Israel did not come into being until after the Exodus in about 1450 B.C.  The land at that time was called Canaan.  There has never been a country called Palestine:

  • “The British chose to call the land they mandated Palestine, and the Arabs picked it up as their nation’s supposed ancient name, though they couldn’t even pronounce it correctly and turned it into Falastin a fictional entity.” — Golda Meir quoted by Sarah Honig, Jerusalem Post, 25 November 1995.
  • “Palestine has never existed . . . as an autonomous entity. There is no language known as Palestinian. There is no distinct Palestinian culture. There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs, indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Lebanese, Iraqis, etc.”
  • “Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 percent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one-tenth of one percent of the landmass. But that’s too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today . . . No matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough.” — from “Myths of the Middle East”, Joseph Farah, Arab-American editor and journalist, WorldNetDaily, 11 October 2000.
  • “From the end of the Jewish state in antiquity to the beginning of British rule, the area now designated by the name Palestine was not a country and had no frontiers, only administrative boundaries . . . .” — Professor Bernard Lewis, Commentary Magazine, January 1975.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
