U.S. Ambivalence Toward Iran Threatens Israel

Caroline Glick’s op-ed titled “Bringing happiness to Iran” raises some interesting questions about the peculiar explosion at Iran’s Parchin nuclear facility.  According to Glick,

The timing of the blast is notable. On Monday night, a delegation from the IAEA landed in Tehran for a new round of talks scheduled for that Tuesday. The UN’s demand to inspect Parchin was set to be one of the top agenda items at the talks.

Given the timing, it is certainly possible that the Iranians carried out the explosion themselves as a means of preventing the IAEA from demanding access.

But let us assume that the widely held automatic assumption – that Israel was behind the blast at Parchin – is accurate. The fact is that in order to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons program, or seriously setback its completion, dozens, if not hundreds of additional targets need to be hit and destroyed.

Nothing would make Iran’s leaders happier than to have nuclear weapons that they could use to target Israeli cities.  Thanks to our ambivalence, Iran is well on its way to possessing the weapons and the delivery vehicles that its leaders so desperately desire.

The mullahs in Iran have been saying for years that they believe Israel should be “wiped off the map”.  They repeat that mantra or words to that effect so often that it must be their top priority.  They even make videos showing how they plan to do it and post them on YouTube.

Do you think they mean it?  If you don’t, you haven’t been paying attention to Iran for the past 35 years.  That’s how long radical Islamists have controlled the Islamic Republic, and they haven’t changed one iota.

The Associated Press reports that Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian just warned the Obama administration that if the U.S.-led coalition fighting ISIS tries to bring down the Assad regime in Syria, Israel will be attacked.  He meant that, too.

Israel is our only reliable ally in the Middle East, and she’s our most dependable ally bar none.  Why, then, does the Obama administration coddle Israel’s enemies and throw stones at her?

Iran, in particular, is playing Obama like a fiddle, and he allows them to get away with it.  Either he knows it and doesn’t care or he doesn’t know it which is even worse.

Our nation’s attitude toward Israel raises serious questions in my mind about our belief in Yahweh.  You can’t say that you are on His side and then elect leaders who do everything that they can think of to oppose Him.  Legalizing sodomy, supporting the right to kill innocent human beings with impunity, and sabotaging Yahweh’s efforts to fulfill His promises to Israel are examples of our sordid history of unfaithfulness.

Politicians and journalists may not recognize the problem, but Yahweh does.

David P. Goldman: Why Are the Bushies Attacking Ted Cruz?— The Republican Party has played Marley’s Ghost for the past half-dozen years, dragging behind it the sins of the foreign-policy utopians who persuaded George W. Bush to bet the farm on nation-building in the Middle East. Bush’s 2004 Second Inaugural, written with the help of the Weekly Standard‘s Bill Kristol and the Washington Post‘s Charles Krauthammer, was the high-water mark of foreign-policy overreach and the cusp of Republican fortunes. By the 2006 congressional elections, the electorate had had enough, and the public’s disgust with the pointless sacrifice of blood and treasure helped propel the junior senator from Illinois into the White House. The Bushies who blundered so badly–occupying Iraq, pushing for the West Bank elections won by Hamas, supporting the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt against the Egyptian military–are still fighting for what is left of their reputations. And their greatest fear is that a Republican leader will come along untainted by their mistakes, and able to admit what we Republicans should have admitted years ago: the Bush administration made some big mistakes. That leader is Sen. Ted Cruz, who said Sept. 24, “I think we stayed too long, and we got far too involved in nation-building…. We should not be trying to turn Iraq into Switzerland.”

Jeffrey M. Bale: Does the Islamic State Really Have ‘Nothing to Do with Islam’?— As is invariably the case these days in the wake of the terrorist violence, brutality, and atrocities carried out explicitly in the name of Islam, a host of dissimulating Islamist activists, other Muslims in a state of psychological denial, and apologetic Western pundits insist that the actions of the terrorist group calling itself al-Dawla al-Islamiyya (IS: the Islamic State) have little or nothing to do with Islam. Not long ago, many such commentators also argued that the horrendous actions committed by the Nigerian jihadist group Jama’at Ahl al-Sunna li al-Da’wa wa al-Jihad, better known as Boko Haram (Western Influence is Sinful), had nothing to do with its members’ interpretations of Islam. In all such cases, however, the perpetrators of these violent actions not only proudly insist that their actions are inspired by the Qur’an and the exemplary words and deeds of Muhammad himself (as recorded in the canonical hadith collections), but explicitly cite relevant Qur’anic passages and the reported actions of their prophet to justify those actions. Therefore, to argue that jihadist terrorists are not directly inspired and primarily motivated by their interpretations of Islamic doctrines and by clear precedents from early Islamic history, one must stubbornly ignore what the actual protagonists keep telling the entire world.

Ken Dilanian: Airstrikes in Syria Didn’t End Threat from Khorasan Terror Cell—U.S. airstrikes on Sep. 22 aimed at a Syrian terrorist cell killed just one or two key militants, according to American intelligence officials who say the group of veteran al-Qaeda fighters is still plotting attacks against U.S. and European targets. The strikes on a compound near Aleppo did not deal a crippling blow to the Khorasan group, officials said, because many important members had scattered.

Peter Martino: The Cream Puff Corps: Australia, Belgium, Britain and France – Not Just The Netherlands— Earlier this week, Timon Dias wrote on these pages that the Dutch authorities have ordered Dutch soldiers not to wear their uniforms when they are using public transport on their way to the barracks. But the Dutch are not the only cowards in the West. Unfortunately, the Netherlands is not the only country that, for fear of attacks by Muslim extremists, has advised its military to no longer wear their uniforms in public. Apparently, Australia, Belgium, Britain and France have done the same. As Dias wrote, the order in the Netherlands was a response to a threat by a Dutch jihadist known as Muhajiri Shaam, who is currently fighting in Syria with al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda. After the Netherlands announced that Dutch F-16s would participate in the allied offensive against ISIS in Iraq, Shaam tweeted that the Dutch people had now become a target for jihadists.

Jonathan Sacks: Europe’s alarming new anti-Semitism— This year, Europe’s Jews enter Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, with a degree of apprehension I have not known in my lifetime. Anti-Semitism has returned to Europe within living memory of the Holocaust. Never again has become ever again. In France, worshipers in a synagogue were surrounded by a howling mob claiming to protest Israeli policy. In Brussels, four people were murdered in the Jewish museum, and a synagogue was firebombed. In London, a major supermarket said that it felt forced to remove kosher food from its shelves for fear that it would incite a riot. A London theater refused to stage a Jewish film festival because the event had received a small grant from the Israeli embassy. More than once during the summer, I heard well-established British Jews saying, “For the first time in my life, I feel afraid.” Twenty years ago, launching a program to strengthen Jewish continuity across the generations, I published a book titled, “Will We Have Jewish Grandchildren?” Today, Jews are beginning to ask, “Will we have English grandchildren?”

Karin Laub: Widespread Skepticism over Gaza Reconstruction—More than five weeks after the Israel-Hamas war, tens of thousands of Gazans live in classrooms, storefronts and tents pitched next to the debris of their homes. Reconstruction efforts appear stymied by a continued Israeli-Egyptian border blockade of Gaza and an unresolved power struggle between Hamas and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Abbas is to ask for $4 billion for Gaza at an international pledging conference in Cairo on Oct 12. Under a UN deal, Israel would gradually ease restrictions on building materials, while Abbas is to regain some control there and make sure cement and steel meant for reconstruction aren’t diverted. However, Abbas told confidants as recently as last week that he doesn’t trust Hamas and is nervous about returning to Gaza without full control over the territory.

Israel Defense Forces: The Reason for Israel’s Low Civilian Casualty Rate—The reason that the number of Israeli civilian casualties was relatively low during the 50 days of the Gaza war is because the IDF is constantly investing in saving lives in every possible way. The IDF’s most crucial life-saving systems include real-time alerts. “First of all people need to know that a rocket was fired at them, so they know to run for cover,” explains Lt. Col. Itach Levi, commander of the Home Front’s First Response Branch. Throughout the Gaza war, more than 750 rockets were intercepted by the Iron Dome Missile Defense System. The Iron Dome only intercepts rockets heading towards populated areas. Therefore, every intercepted rocket would have hit a civilian populated area, potentially causing severe damage and casualties.

William Booth and Ruth Eglash: Israel Aims to Become a Cybersecurity Superpower—At a conference earlier this month devoted to cybersecurity, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu described the Israeli military’s cyber-units as locked in constant battle with “hacktivists” and state-sponsored actors, such as Iran, in daily duels. Israel has become the No. 2 exporter of cyber-products and services in the world, after the U.S. There are now 200 homegrown cybersecurity companies in Israel, alongside dozens of joint research-and-development ventures, producing $3 billion in exports last year.

Sandy Rashty: What Boycott? UK-Israel Trade Up 28 Percent—At a time when anti-Israel campaigning has been at a peak, figures released by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics show that bilateral trade between the UK and Israel is at a record high, increasing by 28% in the period January-August, compared with the same period last year. Exports from Israel to the UK have risen by 38%, while the value of UK exports to Israel has risen 14%.

Erin Cunningham: Islamic State Jihadists Are Using Water as a Weapon in Iraq—Islamic State militants who have rampaged across northern Iraq are increasingly using water as a weapon, cutting off supplies to villages resisting their rule. U.S. forces are bombing the militants close to both the Mosul and Haditha dams on a near-daily basis as radical Islamists continue to menace both facilities.

SnyderTalk Comment: I’m thrilled that donor nations are finally beginning to question the wisdom of their “investment” in Palestinians/Hamas/Gaza.  I just wish that their wisdom extended to questioning their “investment” in Palestinians/Fatah/West Bank.

People will do some amazingly stupid things again and again and again if they know that they don’t have to foot the bill.  Any responsible parent knows that in the absence of consequences children misbehave.

Hamas leaders and foot soldiers behave like out-of-control children who are running amuck with a military arsenal that was paid for with OPM—other people’s money.

Continuing to pour hard-earned money into an organization that is as immoral and corrupt as Hamas is will only incentivize them to do more mischief.  Since their stated mission is to destroy Israel, it also has the effect of making us complicit in their crimes.  There is no other rational way to look at it.

If I know it and you know it, what’s wrong with world “leaders”?  They must know it, too.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 33: 15-17

15 Esau said, “Please let me leave with you some of the people who are with me.” But he said, “What need is there? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.” 16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir. 17 Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built for himself a house and made booths for his livestock; therefore the place is named Succoth.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
