October 3, 2014 SnyderTalk: Kicking the PLO habit

1--Intro Covering Israel and ME

“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: may they prosper who love you.” Psalm 122: 6

Yom Kippur begins at sunset on October 3rd.

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year.  It’s the day that the high priest used to enter the Holy of Holies and sprinkle blood on the Ark of the Covenant.

The Yom Kippur sacrifice and the blood from the lamb symbolized the sacrifice that Yahweh made on our behalf.  He is our righteousness, and His Name is Yahweh Tsidkenu. (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)

Caroline Glick—Kicking the PLO habit:

The signs are everywhere that the time has come for Israel to abandon the PLO.

So long as the PLO remains in power, the lives of Israelis and Palestinians will only get worse.

PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas’s speech last Friday at the UN General Assembly where he repeatedly accused Israel of committing genocide was not merely an abandonment of direct peace negotiations with Israel. Abbas abandoned the very concept of peaceful coexistence between Israel and the Palestinians.

Abbas called for the UN to pass a resolution that will require Israel to cede Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria in their entirety to the PLO within a set period of time. No Israeli consideration can be taken into account. No Israel concern can be attended to.

As he put it, “Palestine refuses to have the right to freedom of her people, who are subjected to the terrorism by the racist occupying Power and its settlers, remain hostage to Israel’s security conditions.”

As is always the case, the immediate victims of Abbas’s blood libels are the Israeli Left. The politicians and media elite that have hitched their horse to the PLO were again left stuttering by the wayside.

SnyderTalk Comment: Don’t get your hopes up for peace between Israel and Palestinians.  Others have and they have regretted it.

For instance, Barack Obama’s and John Kerry’s “9 months to peace” plan was a colossal flop.  It brought on the latest war between Israel and Hamas and prompted Obama to finally admit that peace in the Middle East will take some time.

Peace will come when the Messiah returns.  Obama didn’t say that.  The Messiah did.

There is a reason why peace plans won’t work.  Any plan that requires Israel to surrender land that Yahweh promised to the descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob/Israel is diametrically opposed to Yahweh’s promises, so He won’t allow them to work.  That’s especially true for Jerusalem.

Palestinians say that Israel’s capital belongs to them.  I don’t want to delve too deeply into history, but

  • Yahweh made His promises to Abraham in about 2000 B.C.
  • Jerusalem became Israel’s capital in about 1000 B.C.
  • Mohammad wasn’t born until 570 A.D.
  • Islam didn’t start until the 600s A.D.
  • People we call “Palestinians” today are a hodgepodge of Arabs who have not been assimilated into Arab countries, and they have no legitimate claim on the land.  They didn’t come on the scene as a people group until the 1960s A.D.

The non-believing world and so-called believers who don’t accept the truth of Yahweh’s word should take a look at the scriptures and see what Yahweh has said.  I doubt that many of them will, but if they did, they would discover that Yahweh doesn’t predict.  He explains.

Benji Lovitt: The Idiot’s Guide to Yom Kippur—Kol Nidre. The Day of Atonement. Shabbat Shabbaton. Whatever you want to call it, we’re just days away from Yom Kippur. Such a holy day…but what exactly does it signify? No time to waste, the gates are closing. Without further ado, here is The Idiot’s Guide to Yom Kippur for both the hard-core repenters and the religious newbies. Let’s jump in, leather-less feet first. Yom Kippur is the most solemn day of the Jewish year, which really says a lot when you consider what a gloomy people we are. The gravity of the day comes from the central themes of atonement and repentance, as our fates for the upcoming year are sealed. “Who will live and who will die, who by fire, who by water?” Hey, who’s ready for some fun? I just love an uplifting message to get me into the holiday spirit. Like all Jewish festivals, Yom Kippur begins at sundown, entering this year on Friday, October 3rd and continuing until Saturday night. Interestingly enough, the Hebrew calendar is arranged so that the day of Yom Kippur never falls on a Friday, Sunday, or Rosh Hashana.

Josef Federman: Netanyahu bid to seek peace via Arab world a tall order, experts say—In a pair of fiery speeches at the United Nations, the Israeli and Palestinian leaders appear to have abandoned any hope of reviving peace talks and instead seem intent on pressing forward with separate diplomatic initiatives that all but ignore each other. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for an alliance with moderate Arab countries against radical Islam, while Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, after accusing Israel of “genocide,” plans on appealing to the UN Security Council to endorse Palestinian independence. Both plans offer novel attempts at breaking months of deadlock. Yet both appear doomed to fail. Here’s a look at what lies ahead: Israel: After a failed round of peace talks last spring and a war against Hamas that inflicted heavy damage in the Gaza Strip, Netanyahu is under pressure to seize the diplomatic initiative.

Burak Bekdil: Turkey? Antisemitic? Who, Me?— Last May an explosion at a mine in western Turkey killed 301 miners. Ankara declared national mourning. But President (then-Prime Minister) Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s response to the town’s grief was unusual for a head of a government. After protestors scolded him, he, with his bodyguards, went into a supermarket and, as video footage revealed, Erdogan grabbed one protestor, a Muslim, by the nape of the neck and yelled: “Why are you running away, you sperm of Israel!” After the incident the man also told the press that he was slapped by Erdogan; then, thinking better of it, the man testified that he had been beaten by Erdogan’s bodyguards, not by the prime minister; and he finally apologized to Erdogan for “forcing the prime minister to insult him.”

Yair Rosenberg: The Most Important Thing Netanyahu Did in New York Wasn’t at the U.N.— Yesterday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations. Like every year, the event was covered assiduously by both the American and Israeli media, who carefully parsed each element of the Israeli leader’s speech. But in fact, the addresses at the annual U.N. General Assembly are usually just window dressing that obscures the main event: high-level meetings between heads of state that take place on the sidelines of the New York confab. This was especially true for Israel, for whom the most important development this year was not a predictable speech in which Netanyahu likened Hamas to ISIS, but a little-heralded handshake with recently elected Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two leaders met on Sunday, in what was the first meeting between an Indian prime minister and his Israeli counterpart in 11 years. It was also Bibi’s first scheduled stop when he arrived in New York. “We are two old peoples, some of the oldest of the nations on earth, but we’re also two democracies,” Netanyahu said at a press appearance with Modi. “We’re proud of our rich traditions but we’re also eager to seize the future.”

Washington Post Editorial: Mahmoud Abbas’ Dangerous Grandstanding—THE GOOD news from the Middle East is that the truce between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip has held for a month, and Hamas appears ready to make concessions to avoid a resumption of fighting. Last week the Islamist movement renewed its agreement with the secular Fatah party to turn over Gaza’s government and security control of its borders to the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority. Though it’s not clear that the accord will last, Hamas is emerging as the loser of the summer war. According to Israel, as much as 80 percent of Hamas’s military arsenal has been destroyed, and its poll ratings among Palestinians are sinking as it fails to deliver the gains it promised from the conflict. Hamas’s diminution might seem to create new possibilities for agreement between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Mr. Abbas, after all, denounced Hamas’s embrace of carnage and refused to support a simultaneous uprising in the West Bank. Yet Mr. Abbas delivered a bridge-burning speech to the U.N. General Assembly last week, mendaciously accusing Israel of “a new war of genocide” and declaring that a return to negotiations was “impossible.”

Steve Kroft: Obama: Middle East Peace Is Going to Take Some Time—President Obama told “60 Minutes” on Sunday: “Islam is a religion that preaches peace and the overwhelming majority of Muslims are peaceful. But in the Muslim world right now, there is a cancer that has grown for too long that suggests that it is acceptable to kill innocent people who worship a different God….We’ve got to get Arab and Muslim leaders to say very clearly, ‘These folks do not represent us. They do not represent Islam,’ and to speak out forcefully against them.” “The beginning of the solution for the entire Middle East is going to be a transformation in how these countries teach their youth. What our military operations can do is to just check and roll back these networks as they appear and make sure that the time and space is provided for a new way of doing things to begin to take root. But it’s going to take some time.”

Lt. Col. (ret.) Jonathan D. Halevi: Abbas Justifies Palestinian Terror in UN Speech—PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas accused Israel of a “new war of genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people” at the UN General Assembly on Sep. 26. He made no mention of the firing of thousands of rockets by Palestinians in Gaza at Israeli cities, strategic facilities, and its international airport. Abbas demanded that Israel pay the full price for its “war crimes,” while directing no such demand at the Palestinian terror organizations for firing rockets at Israeli civilian communities. Praise for terror is a constant motif in Abbas’ speeches, as he again referred to all Palestinian terrorists whom Israel has prosecuted for murder or attempted murder as “political prisoners” to be immediately released.

Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum: The Intellectual Battle Against ISIS—We cannot extinguish the fires of fanaticism by force alone. The world must unite behind a holistic drive to discredit the ideology that gives extremists their power. ISIS certainly can – and will – be defeated militarily by the international coalition that is now assembling. But lasting peace requires three other ingredients: winning the battle of ideas; upgrading weak governance; and supporting grassroots human development. What we are fighting is not just a terrorist organization, but the embodiment of a malicious ideology that must be defeated intellectually. With its twisted religious overtones, this pre-packaged franchise of hate carries the power to mobilize thousands of desperate, vindictive, or angry young people and use them to strike at the foundations of civilization. Only one thing can stop a suicidal youth who is ready to die for ISIS: a stronger ideology that guides him onto the right path and convinces him that God created us to improve our world, not to destroy it.

Michael Curtis: Prince Turki of Saudi Arabia should speak to the Knesset—It used to be true of relationships between countries in the Middle East, as Harry Truman once said of politics in Washington, D.C., that if you need a friend get a dog. However, no one can be unaware of the bewildering changes in those relationships that have occurred in the last few years. With the advent of Islamic Sunni militant terrorism, the civil war in Syria, Shia Iran’s rush to achieve nuclear facilities, and the collapse of dysfunctional countries like Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon as states, the tidal wave of change has become a tsunami. The result is the emergence of new friendly relationships, some existing and forthcoming, including those between Israel and Arab states. Most rulers in the Middle East recognize that the main dangers to their existence are the extreme Islamist terrorist groups and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The emergence of the Islamic State, formerly ISIS or ISIL, and the Caliphate it has created in parts of Iraq and Syria, and its ambitions to spread its ideology of terror, the threat of a nuclear Iran, and the relentless assaults of Hamas on Israel, have led to unexpected and dramatic suggestions of new patterns of relationships.

Malcolm Lowe: Salmond’s Legacy for Scotland: Civil War— By a 10% majority, the inhabitants of Scotland voted No to the question: “Should Scotland be an independent country?” The first reaction of Alex Salmond, the leader of the Yes campaign, was to admit defeat and resign as head of the Scottish National Party (SNP) and as First Minister of the devolved Scottish government. Within a day or two, however, he began urging the minority of Yes voters to delegitimize the majority and to work for a seizure of independence in the future by any available maneuvers.

SnyderTalk Comment: Obama can’t hide his narcissism.  He doesn’t even see it.

To Obama everything is about him and everything is political.  When he puts on that smug smile for the cameras and says “this is not about me”, he really means “this is all about me”.

Obama has been insulting Netanyahu for 6 years.  He treats Netanyahu like an unwanted visitor at the White House.  He gives the Israeli prime minister tongue lashes all the time.  He jokes about Netanyahu with other world “leaders” in front of hot microphones.  He laments having to deal with Netanyahu and isn’t shy about saying so “off camera”.

But Netanyahu didn’t call Obama in advance as a matter of courtesy to tell him about housing plans in Israel’s capital.  To Obama, that was over the top.

In Obama’s world, he is the man, the grand poobah.  Obama thinks that Netanyahu’s job is to make him look presidential.

Good for Netanyahu.  I hope he told Obama that he knows how busy he is with ISIS and all, so he didn’t want to trouble him.

I think that it’s common knowledge by now that the U.S. president isn’t good at multitasking.  Netanyahu was doing Obama a favor by not telling him.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 31: 43-49

43 Then Laban replied to Jacob, “The daughters are my daughters, and the children are my children, and the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day to these my daughters or to their children whom they have borne? 44 So now come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be a witness between you and me.”45 Then Jacob took a stone and set it up as a pillar. 46 Jacob said to his kinsmen, “Gather stones.” So they took stones and made a heap, and they ate there by the heap. 47 Now Laban called it Jegar-sahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed. 48 Laban said, “This heap is a witness between you and me this day.” Therefore it was named Galeed, 49 and Mizpah, for he said, “May Yahweh watch between you and me when we are absent one from the other.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
