Antisemitism on rise across Europe ‘in worst times since the Nazis’

In a recent article titled “Antisemitism on rise across Europe ‘in worst times since the Nazis’”, Jon Henley said,

Across Europe, the conflict in Gaza is breathing new life into some very old, and very ugly, demons. This is not unusual; police and Jewish civil rights organisations have long observed a noticeable spike in antisemitic incidents each time the Israeli-Palestinian conflict flares. During the three weeks of Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in late 2008 and early 2009, France recorded 66 antisemitic incidents, including attacks on Jewish-owned restaurants and synagogues and a sharp increase in anti-Jewish graffiti. But according to academics and Jewish leaders, this time it is different. More than simply a reaction to the conflict, they say, the threats, hate speech and violent attacks feel like the expression of a much deeper and more widespread antisemitism, fuelled by a wide range of factors, that has been growing now for more than a decade.

I think the academics and Jewish leaders are correct.  This time it is different.  I can’t explain exactly why and I won’t speculate, but I think something big is taking place.  It’s breaking out all over the world, not just in Europe.

Each one of Yahweh’s people has a part to play in protecting and defending Jewish people and Israel.  They are targets today, and they have been targets since the day Yahweh made promises to Abraham about them.  In effect, they are Yahweh’s surrogates.  That’s what they always have been and that’s what they always will be.  It’s unavoidable, and it was Yahweh’s decision, not theirs.

Just as Yahweh tested Abraham when He told him to sacrifice Isaac, we are being tested every time we have an opportunity to help Jewish people and Israel.  It boils down to our belief in Yahweh and His promises.  Either we believe Him or we don’t.  If we believe Him, we will not do anything to sabotage His efforts to fulfill those promises.  If we don’t believe him, we will be wishy-washy and try to avoid taking sides.  Problem is that taking sides is required.  That was Yahweh’s decision, too.  Either you are for Him or you are against Him, so taking sides is unavoidable.

I suspect that most of the people who are engaged in violent anti-Semitism have no idea that a spiritual battle is raging and that they are a part of it.  They would probably laugh at the notion that they are retaliating against Yahweh, but that’s exactly what they are doing.  They have been blinded by their master, but they should know and they will be held accountable as if they did know.

In my book What Will You Do with the Rest of Your Life?, I explain that saving faith is faith with legs.  It’s more than an acceptance of Yahweh’s existence.  As James said, demons believe in God, and they tremble.  Since demons don’t have saving faith, it’s obvious that just “believing” in Yahweh is not enough.  People who have saving faith go where Yahweh’s Spirit leads them, and He will never lead us to work against Him and the fulfillment of His promises.

In Romans, Paul explained it this way: “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” In other words, if you are not being led by Yahweh’s Spirit, you are not His child.  James put it this way: “I will show you my faith by my works.”  So what you do and say really matters, especially things that you do and say about Jewish people and Israel.  It’s as simple as that.  That was Yahweh’s decision, too, not ours.

I have said this many times during talks about the Name Yahweh: when the end comes, I think our attitude toward Jewish people and Israel will be the dividing line for those who claim to have faith in Yahweh.  It makes perfect sense because it has everything to do with Yahweh’s promises and our attitude toward them.  You can’t be for Yahweh and against His promises.  Stated another way, you can’t be for Yahweh and against Jewish people and Israel.

Dovid Efune: The Anti-Jewish Riots Have Exposed Hamas—The editors at British newspaper The Guardian are beside themselves. Somebody forgot to pass on the ‘Anti-Israel Rioting Etiquette Handbook’ to the largely vicious and thoroughly bigoted hordes who gathered to call for Israel’s demise in the streets of the world’s major cities over this past month. Media reports said that the marches were prompted by Israel’s Operation Protective Edge in Gaza and sympathy for Palestinian children. So why is it that protesters in Paris were chanting “death to the Jews” and “Hitler was right,” and activists in London proclaimed “Heil Hitler” and “Oh Jew, you will die”?

Isi Leibler: U.S. Jewish Leaders’ Deafening Silence— Over the past few months, the Jewish state has been increasingly castigated by U.S. President Barack Obama and his spokesmen as part of botched efforts to bring about a settlement between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. The tense relationship deteriorated further in recent weeks when the U.S. ritual endorsement of Israel’s right to self-defense was linked to criticisms of its behavior. The U.S. is unquestionably Israel’s principal ally. In contrast to most of the world, the American public and a bipartisan Congress remain overwhelmingly pro-Israel. Until this week, the U.S. has maintained the military partnership with Israel and exercised its veto powers to defend Israel from biased resolutions at the U.N. Security Council. Israel is therefore reluctant to confront the offensive statements emanating from the White House and has gone through the motions of minimizing differences. Under such circumstances, one would have expected the American Jewish leadership to actively express its concern. Yet, other than the hawkish Zionist Organization of America, the Jewish establishment appears to have burrowed behind a curtain of deafening silence.

Gidon Ben-zvi: Israel and America: Time for a Trial Divorce?— The Obama Administration has halted a shipment of Hellfire aerial anti-armor missiles to Israel, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday, citing government sources. Not since the early 1980s, when the Reagan Administration withheld delivery of promised F-16 fighter planes as a response to Israel’s bombing of Iraq’s nuclear plant in Osirak, has the U.S. acted in such a brazen, reckless manner. Effectively, President Barack Obama has made Israel weaker.

Pinhas Inbari: The Gaza Water Crisis—The latest round of fighting in Gaza has shown that Israel cannot risk the threat of Gaza chock-full of missiles threatening its citizens and constantly disrupting the country’s routine. Israel’s strategic goal is to disarm Hamas. Unlike its provision of electricity, Israel currently provides only negligible quantities of water to Gaza. Gaza’s water crisis was created completely by Hamas and the Palestinian Authority before it, and was not caused by any Israeli action. On the contrary, Israel is the only actor capable of extricating Gaza from the crisis, meaning that it has a lever to help achieve strategic objectives. Israel must avoid being drawn into the water issue as a “humanitarian” concern; it must instead present it as a political issue, expressing willingness to supply the residents of Gaza but only in return for the dismantling of the terror infrastructure.

Eytan Gilboa: Hamas Cheerleaders: Professional Failures of the Western Media in Gaza—The continuous dissemination of inaccurate data on civilian casualties by the Western media represents a major professional failure. Interestingly, Chinese and Indian networks exposed the relevant context so missing from the Western media coverage – the unprecedented Israeli efforts to minimize civilian casualties and the systematic use of civilians as human shields by Hamas. Who would believe that CCTV, the communist-run Chinese television network, would cover Gaza in a more balanced way than the British BBC? This suggests that the Western media is biased against Israel. The distorted and misleading coverage of the Gaza conflict contributed to the hasty calls made by political leaders, UN officials and NGOs to prosecute Israel for war crimes. It also contributed to the mass hate demonstrations in Europe and to the sharp rise in anti-Semitic incidents. Given the systematic, biased and inaccurate coverage of Gaza in the Guardian and the Independent, it is not surprising that Britain has become the world center for hatred and anti-Israel demonstrations and boycotts. The Western media betrayed their audiences who deserve to receive accurate information on Gaza. They should be held accountable for their skewed coverage.

Victor Davis Hanson: Occupation Hypocrisy: Gaza vs. Cyprus—Cyprus has never recovered from the Turkish invasion of 1974. Turkish troops still control nearly 40% of the island – the most fertile and formerly the richest portion. Some 200,000 Greek refugees never returned home after being expelled from their homes and farms in Northern Cyprus. Thousands of settlers were shipped in by the Turkish government to occupy former Greek villages and to change Cypriot demography. Not a single nation recognizes the legitimacy of the Turkish Cypriot state. Why, then, is the world not outraged at an occupied Cyprus the way it is at, say, Israel? The West stays silent while Muslims butcher each other by the thousands in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya and Syria. Only when a Westernized country like Israel inflicts far less injury to Muslims does the West become irate.

Joseph I. Lieberman: U.S. Has a Chance to Stop the Islamic State—It would be wrong to view President Obama’s decision to order airstrikes against the Islamic State in Iraq and to give weapons to Kurdish fighters as a continuation of the war in Iraq. It is more accurate to see it as a mission to prevent a repetition of the war in Afghanistan. We have a chance to stop the Islamic State before it creates a sanctuary in Iraq and Syria that it could use to strike the U.S., just as al-Qaeda used its sanctuary in Afghanistan to kill thousands of Americans on Sept. 11, 2001. The shockingly rapid and violent spread of the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, its declaration of an extremist Islamist caliphate and the stream of explicit threats it has made against the U.S. demonstrate that it is a clear and present danger to us and our allies. In a world ablaze with conflict and bloodshed, the threats we face from violent Islamist extremism remain the most dangerous.

Col. Clint Hinote: Why ISIS Is More Dangerous than Al-Qaeda—I know of no one who relishes a return to Iraq. But if the alternative is the establishment of a well-resourced Islamic pseudo-state that enjoys sanctuary from which to export terrorism to the West, the wise choice is the hardest one: To take on the group now, before they grow more powerful and capable.

Guardian-UK Editorial: Gaza and the Rise of Anti-Semitism—The board of London’s Tricycle Theater delivered an ultimatum to the organizers of the UK Jewish Film Festival, which it has hosted for the last eight years: either cut your ties with the Israeli embassy or find another venue. The theater has made a bad error of judgment. The Israeli embassy in London represents Israel itself, its society and its people. It was this connection with Israel that the UK Jewish Film Festival refused to give up. That reflects something crucial about contemporary Jewish identity: that most Jews feel bound up with Israel. To demand that Jews surrender that connection is to tell Jews how they might – and how they might not – live as Jews. Such demands have an ugly history. They are not the proper business of any public institution, least of all a state-subsidized theater.

Michael Curtis: Obama Foreign Policy: A Ship without a Sail— Much ink has been spilled in attempts to construe the meaning and significance, the sincerity or political opportunism, of the remarks made by Hillary Clinton about American foreign policy in her interview with Jeffrey Goldberg in Atlantic magazine. Interpretations will differ on the reasons for her indicating differences with President Barack Obama, especially on Middle East policies, and on the variances between her present and past statements on those policies. It is not really necessary to ponder this less than earthshaking issue. Machiavelli, in tough-minded language in The Prince, said it all, six hundred years ago: “Everyone admits how praiseworthy it is in a prince to keep his word, and to behave with integrity rather than cunning. Nevertheless, our experience has been that those princes who have done great things have considered keeping their word of little account.”

SnyderTalk Comment: I think that Obama’s ship of state is more like a ship without a rudder.  Without a rudder, no wind is the right wind no matter how good the sail.

SnyderTalk Comment: To anti-Semites, any excuse to attack Jewish people is a good excuse.  In fact, they don’t even need an excuse.  It’s just good to have one ready in case they are called upon to explain themselves.  Remember that scorpions sting because they are scorpions.  There is no other reason.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 25: 24-34

24 When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. 25 Now the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment; and they named him Esau. 26 Afterward his brother came forth with his hand holding on to Esau’s heel, so his name was called Jacob; and Isaac was sixty years old when she gave birth to them. 27 When the boys grew up, Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a peaceful man, living in tents. 28 Now Isaac loved Esau, because he had a taste for game, but Rebekah loved Jacob. 29 When Jacob had cooked stew, Esau came in from the field and he was famished; 30 and Esau said to Jacob, “Please let me have a swallow of that red stuff there, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom. 31 But Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.” 32 Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die; so of what use then is the birthright to me?” 33 And Jacob said, “First swear to me”; so he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. 34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew; and he ate and drank, and rose and went on his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright.

SnyderTalk Comment: Esau traded his birthright to Jacob for a meal, and Yahweh hated him for it.  How do I know?  Because that’s exactly what He said (Malachi 1: 3).  Read His Name is Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
