Obama Blunders at Israel’s Expense
Obama’s poll numbers are sinking fast. Even his ardent supporters are beginning to have second thoughts about him. It’s easy to understand why. He’s been in office for almost 6 years, and like Pig-Pen in the Peanuts comic strip, he makes a mess of everything he touches. It’s becoming impossible to deny, and until recently, his followers’ denial was Obama’s ace in the hole.
From Europe to Russia to Asia to Africa to Latin America to the Middle East, Obama has left mayhem in his wake. His penchant for abandoning friends, making nice with enemies, and cutting-and-running has made the United States weaker today than it has been in my lifetime. From time immemorial, the strong have never respected weakness. Like it or not, they still don’t, and I doubt they ever will. Obama’s policies have made him and the U.S. a laughingstock.
Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s “reset” with Russia is a perfect example. Given what is taking place in Ukraine today, do you honestly think that Obama’s ill-timed and ill-conceived gestures toward Vladimir Putin motivated the Russian president to become a good neighbor? Hardly. Putin views our weakness as an opportunity to advance his agenda, and he has done that with reckless abandon. Obama has finally begun to talk tough to Russia, but he never mentions the fact that his distorted view of reality caused the problem in the first place.
And what about the Middle East? It was the first stop on Obama’s apology tour. Since that day, the Middle East has come unglued. Radical Islamists correctly interpreted Obama’s apology as weakness, and they have taken advantage of our weakness to build their strength. Obama has integrated Islamists into his administration and made other friendly gestures toward them, but they still don’t like us. Even more, they don’t respect us. They can never be our friends. They don’t even like each other.
Islamists see us as infidels—the enemy. Their mission, their jihad is to subjugate or kill us. I’m not scaremongering. That’s what they say. Every day, they chant “death to America” and “kill the infidels”. Under Obama’s nose, they are actively involved in insurgencies around the world hoping to take control and rule by Sharia law which is in reality nothing more than tribal tyranny.
I don’t know about you, but if someone threatened to kill me and my family, I would take him seriously. I definitely wouldn’t invite him into my home and offer him a cup of tea. The first thing I would do is take steps to defend myself just in case he meant what he said, and we know for a fact that Islamists mean what they say. Does “9/11” ring a bell? At this point, ignoring them is suicidal. If you are President of the United States, it’s criminal because he has a constitutional duty to defend us.
One Israeli journalist said that Obama sees the world as “la la land”. That’s a benevolent interpretation of Obama’s screw-ups. People at the other end of the spectrum have said that Obama is inherently evil. Regardless of his inclinations, though, judging by outcomes alone Obama’s presidency has been a dismal failure.
No one knows that better than the people of Israel. They have borne the brunt of Obama’s blunders. Even left-wing Israelis are beginning to recognize and talk publically about his incompetence. In Israel, feelings toward Obama have intensified to the point that even Tzipi Livni, Israel’s left-wing Minister of Justice, is trying to distance herself from him. That speaks volumes.
If Livni stays the present course, I may have to stop calling her Obama’s lapdog. I doubt that will happen, though, because I think she’s just another politician of the charlatan variety. Maybe that’s why she and Obama are such good friends.

Moshe Phillips and Benyamin Korn: The Washington Post Takes on Barack Obama Over Gaza War— President Lyndon B. Johnson knew the Vietnam War was a lost cause when Walter Cronkite, America’s most respected television news anchor, turned against it. This symbolized for Johnson that a large portion of the American public had likewise turned negative. President Barack Obama may have just had his own “Walter Cronkite Moment,” involving the Gaza War and the Washington Post. The date was February 27, 1968. Cronkite, the anchor of the CBS Nightly News, was the most-watched, and most-admired newsman in America. He concluded an update on the Vietnam situation by declaring his opinion that “we are mired in stalemate…it is increasingly clear to this reporter that the only rational way out then will be to negotiate, not as victors, but as an honorable people who lived up to their pledge to defend democracy, and did the best they could.” Cronkite’s message was crystal clear: America could not win, and therefore should negotiate its withdrawal from the region. President Johnson, who was watching the broadcast live in the White House, reportedly said to his aides, “If I’ve lost Cronkite, I’ve lost Middle America.” Without “Middle America”- without broad public support – Johnson could not prosecute the war successfully. The handwriting was on the wall for America’s defeat in Vietnam, because no democratic country can long wage war if most of its public opposes it.
Alan M. Dershowitz: What should Israel do? What would the United States do?— Imagine you are the Prime Minister of Israel or the President of the United States, or the Chief-of-Staff of either Army. Your soldiers are fighting a just war to try to prevent rockets from hitting your civilians or tunnels from being used to murder and kidnap your people. Your enemy, knowing that you wish to prevent casualties among their civilians, purposely shoots at your soldiers from civilian areas. Your soldiers, caught in the midst of an ongoing fire fight, basically have two choices: one, fire back and try to stop the enemy from killing you, while trying to avoid or minimize civilian casualties; or two, lay down your arms, because you don’t want to endanger civilians, and accept the risk that your soldiers may be killed.
Sara Yoheved Rigler: Jew Hatred: Understanding the World’s Insanity— Joan Rivers was stopped by an impromptu interviewer and asked about the war in Gaza. She answered that if New Jersey were shooting rockets at New York, “we’d wipe out Jersey.” The interviewer continued to pry her with questions about Gaza’s civilian casualties. Joan, incredulous, erupted, “They started it. You’re all insane. They started it!!” In the eyes of Israel’s advocates, the necessity for the war against Hamas is as indisputable as a mathematical equation. Support for the ground invasion of Gaza spans Israel’s political spectrum. According to a poll taken last week, 91% of Israeli Jews support Israel’s military campaign (the first time in anyone’s historical memory that 91% of Israeli Jews agreed on anything!). To us in Israel it is simple and clear: Hamas, committed to the destruction of Israel in its Charter and in its actions, poses an existential threat to our lives and the lives of our children. Yet, no matter how clearly Israel’s advocates state their case, diplomats around the world, leading news outlets, the UN, and even the American administration, all people who are certifiably sane and even smart, don’t seem to get it.
Alan M. Dershowitz: America’s “Allies” – Qatar and Turkey – Are Accessories to Hamas’ War Crimes—American allies, especially Qatar and Turkey, have been providing material support to Hamas, which the U.S. has listed as a foreign terrorist organization. This support includes financial, diplomatic, media and even the provision of weapons that deliberately target Israeli civilians. It also includes harboring war criminals, especially leaders of Hamas, who direct their followers from the safety of Doha. Without the support of Qatar and Turkey, Hamas would never have started this bloody war. If Hamas were ever to be convicted of war crimes by the International Criminal Court, as it may well be, any individual who was an accessory to such crimes would be guilty as well. It is entirely fair, therefore, to describe Qatar as a criminal regime, guilty of accessory to mass murder. The time has come for the U.S. to reassess the status of Qatar and Turkey. Both should be treated as pariahs until they stop being state sponsors, supporters and facilitators of terrorism.
Lee Smith: Did Iran Scuttle the Cease-Fire in Gaza?—As Tony Badran, a research fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, explains in NOW Lebanon, Iran and Hamas have been clearly signaling each other during the Gaza conflict. “After the war broke out,” Badran writes, “senior Iranian officials, including Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani, expressed strong support….The rebirth of the Iranian-led axis provides the essential ingredient for a new explanation of Hamas’ decision to go to war with Israel.” As Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs research associate Brig.-Gen. (ret.) Shimon Shapira told me recently, Iran has gone over the heads of the Hamas politburo officials and reached out directly to the military commanders.
Michael Curtis: French Christian Decency and Hamas Evil— Goodness and mercy coexist with evil in the world. At a moment when the Hamas terrorists in Gaza have horrified the world with the extent of their evil in using Palestinian children as slave labor to build underground tunnels in Sinai and as human shields in Gaza in their strategy to kill Jews and eliminate the State of Israel, the chronicle of goodness and mercy by French Protestants heroically saving persecuted Jews during World War II in a small farming village is being retold. The story of the courageous and noble 5,000 inhabitants of the village Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, located in the mountains of south-central France, 350 miles from Paris, has been told several times. It was remembered for its good deeds when it was honored in 1990 by Yad Vashem in Jerusalem as a place of Righteous among the Nations.
Uriel Heilman: The Images Missing from the Gaza War—We’ve seen rubble, dead Palestinian children, Israelis cowering during rocket attacks, and Israeli military maneuvers. What we haven’t seen are practically any images of Hamas fighters inside Gaza. We know they’re there: Someone’s got to be launching those 2,800 rockets into Israel. If we’re able to see images from both sides of practically every other war, why is Gaza an exception? For many viewers, the narrative of this war must appear quite straightforward: Powerful Israel is bombarding defenseless Palestinians. That’s understandable when there are hardly any photographs of Palestinian aggressors. If media outlets are suppressing images of Hamas fighters using civilians as shields, and using schools and hospitals as bases of operation, then people watching around the world are only getting half the story. And where I come from, a half-truth is considered a lie.
Robert H. Scales and Douglas Ollivant: Terrorist Armies Fight Smarter and Deadlier than Ever—Look carefully at media images of ground fighting across the Middle East, and you will notice that the bad guys are fighting differently than they have in the past. U.S. soldiers fighting in Iraq used to say: “Thank God they can’t shoot.” Well, now they can. We see Islamist fighters becoming skilled soldiers. In Iraq the Islamic State fighters maneuver in reasonably disciplined formations. They employ mortars and rockets in deadly barrages. They continue to display an eager willingness for death. Hizbullah now is among the most skilled light infantry on the planet. In the case of Hamas in Gaza, they have been fighting in well-organized teams. Units stand and fight from hideouts and tunnel entrances. They wait for the Israelis to pass by before ambushing them from the rear. They are getting good with second-generation weapons such as the Russian RPG-29. Iranian advisers throughout the Middle East are getting better at their craft. As the Israelis have been painfully learning, terrorist groups are turning into armies, pairing their fanatical dedication with newly acquired tactical skills.
Col. Richard Kemp: Gaza’s Civilian Casualties: The Truth Is Very Different—With few exceptions, reporters, commentators, and analysts unquestioningly accept the casualty statistics given by Gaza’s Hamas-controlled medical authorities, who ascribe alldeaths to the IDF. We have never seen so much as a glimpse of killed or wounded fighters. Analysis of casualty details released by Qatar-based Al Jazeera indicate that so far most of those killed in Gaza have been young men of fighting age, not women, children or old people. All Palestinian civilian casualties in this conflict result ultimately from Gaza terrorists’ aggression against Israel, and Hamas’s use of human shields — the most important plank of Hamas’s war-fighting policy.
Samuel Westrop: UK: HSBC Shuts Down Islamist Bank Accounts— In late July, HSBC, a British multinational bank, closed the bank accounts of Anas Al-Tikriti, a prominent British Islamist activist, and his family. HSBC also closed down the bank accounts of the Cordoba Foundation, of which Tikriti is the Director, and the Finsbury Park Mosque. In response to enquiries, the bank simply stated that to continue providing services would be outside the bank’s “risk appetite.” This latest round of bank account closures has come as a surprise to counter-terrorism experts and much of the media, who note that the Cordoba Foundation and the Finsbury Park Mosque have enjoyed strong political support in the past.
SnyderTalk Comment: Good for HSBC. Radical Islam is organized crime with a religious facade. It should be illegal and their assets should be seized.

SnyderTalk Comment: There is no doubt that Yahweh promised the land of Israel to Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob/Israel. Today, people who hate Yahweh and His promises are fighting to prevent them from being fulfilled. They can’t and they won’t win, but they are certainly trying. Read His Name is Yahweh.
