Caroline Glick—Obama to the rescue—of Hamas:

Operation Protective Edge is now two weeks old. Since the ground offensive began Thursday night, we have begun to get a better picture of just how dangerous Hamas has become in the nine years since Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip. And what we have learned is that the time has come to take care of this problem. It cannot be allowed to fester or grow anymore.

We have known for years that tunnels were a central component of Hamas’s logistical infrastructure.

What began as the primary means of smuggling weapons, trainers and other war material from Hamas’s sponsors abroad developed rapidly into a strategic tool of offensive warfare against Israel.

As we have seen from the heavily armed Hamas commando squads that have infiltrated into Israel from tunnels since the start of the current round of warfare, the first goal of these offensive tunnels is to deploy terrorists into Israel to massacre Israelis.

But the tunnels facilitate other terror missions as well.

Israel has found tunnels with shafts rigged with bombs located directly under Israeli kindergartens.

If the bombs had gone off, the buildings above would have been destroyed, taking the children down with them.

SnyderTalk Comment: Israel is the only country on the face of the planet with a Divine, eternal charter that’s spelled out in the Bible.  Its boundaries are precisely laid out and so is its Owner.  Yahweh said, “The earth is Yahweh’s, and all it contains….” (Psalm 24: 1) Concerning the Land of Israel specifically, He said, “The land [the Promised Land], moreover, shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are but aliens and sojourners with Me.” (Leviticus 25: 23)  So, ultimately the land belongs to Yahweh.

Concerning the Divine right of Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob/Israel to possess the land, Yahweh said, “Say, therefore, to the sons of Israel, ‘I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from their bondage. I will also redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments. Then I will take you for My people, and I will be your God; and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. I will bring you to the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and I will give it to you for a possession; I am Yahweh.’” (Exodus 6: 6-8)

Where the Land of Israel or the Promised Land is concerned, Yahweh made an oath and sealed it by using His Name three times in this instance.  When Yahweh gives His word, the matter is settled.  By using His Name three times to seal the promise, He made it emphatic.  The Promised Land includes all the land that Israel possesses today plus the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and more land besides.

This is the bottom line: you can’t be against Israel and for Yahweh.  It’s as simple as that.  Any attempt to try to force Israel to abrogate its rights is a direct assault on Yahweh and His word.  That’s something true believers won’t do, and pretending to believe is the same as not believing.

Lawrence A. Franklin: The U.S.-Israel Alliance: No Apologies Necessary— Remember the commentaries after 9/11 that “we should have been expecting something like this”? Some even implied that America was, in part, responsible for the attacks because of our one-sided policy toward the Muslim world, and in particular, “our support for Israel’s occupation of Palestinian land.” Remember also, though, the news reports about the cheering and dancing in Palestinian Arab neighborhoods on 9/11? Perhaps these celebrations resembled the high-fives and other macabre gestures of glee made by some Palestinian Arabs following the recent kidnapping and murder of three Jewish teenagers in Gush Etzion, near the ancient Judean city of Hebron. Guilt-riddled apologies for America’s alliance with Israel can only be explained by ignorance, by disingenuous attempts to curry favor with Arabs, or for some, by a darker motivation.

Marc Schulman: Setbacks and Lies Cause Israelis to Despair— Things in Israel appear to have changed in the last few hours—and not for the better. Today started with a morning round of missiles. It seemed routine, another round of missiles targeted at Tel Aviv and the surrounding area. For us, it was just another attack. We woke our sleeping guests and all squeezed into our secure area. The siren wailed for a few minutes. We heard the loud booms of the Israeli Iron Dome missile shield intercept the missiles over our heads, then moved back to the living room to hear what happened. We learned that the missiles aimed at Tel Aviv were downed, but that at least part of one rocket came down in a suburb, about 20 minutes outside of Tel Aviv.

Richard Cohen: A Fight for Israel’s Existence—Israel now fights not just to clear out the tunnels and rid Gaza of its rockets but for its very existence. Hamas thinks it is winning the current war – which is why it rejected the Egyptian-brokered cease-fire proposal. Israel has an absolute right not merely to exist but to do so safe from rockets or incursions by tunneling terrorists.

Christa Case Bryant: Israelis Firmly Behind Gaza Operation as Military Losses Mount—Israel has lost 29 soldiers just four days into the Gaza ground operation, making this the deadliest fighting for the Israeli military since 2006. But despite the casualties and nationally shared grief, Israel shows no sign of letting up in Gaza. Soldiers and civilians alike resist giving in to one’s enemies, on the principle that doing so invites worse calamities down the line. For now at least, Israelis are not faltering in their support for an operation the government says was necessary after it exhausted all other options to crush Hamas’ offensive capabilities. “After the initial shock and trauma, you have a resilience,” says Prof. Yehuda Ben Meir, director of the National Security and Public Opinion project at the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv. Col. Shaul Shay (res.), who served on the National Security Council during the 2009 Gaza war, says, “The government in this case has very high support of the public, because it’s quite clear that the government did almost everything to prevent this conflict.”

Ely Karmon: If Israel Is Forced to End Gaza Ground Operation Prematurely, Arabs May Perceive Hamas as Winner—Hamas is wracked by internal divisions between military and political cadres, extremist and pragmatic politicians, and Gaza-based and external leaderships. Hamas’ isolation in the regional context is greater than ever. Saudi Arabia and most of the Gulf countries support Egypt’s fight against the Muslim Brotherhood and by extension against Hamas. Qatar, one of the main providers of funds to Hamas, is much more cautious since the advent of the young Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and in light of the intense pressure by its powerful Gulf neighbors to cut off support for Brotherhood andjihadist forces in the region. If Israel is forced to end its ground operation prematurely, part of Palestinian and Arab public opinion may perceive Hamas as the winner, due to its successes in massive rocket firing towards most of Israel without suffering heavy casualties among its military-terrorist ranks or its political leaders.

Lt. Col. (ret.) Jonathan D. Halevi: Hamas’ Attack Tunnels: Initial Implications—Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas prime minister, delivered a revealing speech on March 23, 2014, in which he stressed the strategic importance of the Hamas attack tunnels, which, he argued, have changed the balance of power with Israel. Tunnel warfare provides armies facing a technologically superior adversary with an effective means for countering its air superiority. The tunnels from Gaza penetrate deep into Israeli territory. Hamas has accumulated a great deal of experience in using the tunnels for operational purposes. Since 2000, hundreds of tunnels have been dug along Gaza’s border with Egypt, providing a lifeline for Hamas’ military buildup. Based on Hizbullah’s experience in the Second Lebanon War, and with the assistance and guidance of Iran, Hamas has also made use of the tunnels to build an underground network of missile launchers. The attack tunnels create a new equation in the power balance between Israel and Hamas. They give Hamas an ability to infiltrate Israel and carry out strategic attacks involving mass killing, along with an ability to launch missiles from locations concealed within civilian population centers.

Eugene Kontorovich: Israel, the FAA, and International Isolation—Israel’s “growing isolation” was always a myth. Israel’s trade with Europe has grown constantly in recent years, even as it developed new markets and ties in Asia. Now, however, international isolation has truly arrived – with the suspension of American and European flights to Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport. Ben-Gurion remains an extremely safe airport. The FAA had many various measures short of a flight ban, like warnings, that it could have imposed. The FAA only warns airlines about flying to Afghanistan; it does not ban them. The FAA move comes the day after a general State Department warning about Israel – though far more people were killed in Chicago on Fourth of July weekend than in the Jewish state since the start of the Gaza campaign.

Alan Dershowitz: Hamas Raises the Stakes—Whether the regulators and airlines that have stopped flights to and from Israel are right or wrong, this stoppage cannot possibly be tolerated by a democratic country that relies so heavily on tourism and international travel. It is of course a war crime to target an international civilian airport. There will be even more innocent Palestinian deaths now, as Hamas has raised the stakes considerably for Israel. Every country in the world would do everything in its power to keep open the airports, which are the lifelines to its economic viability. Even more importantly, Israel will now be more reluctant than ever to give up military control over the West Bank, which is even closer to Ben-Gurion Airport than is Gaza. The new reality caused by Hamas’ shutting down of international air travel to and from Israel would plainly justify an Israeli demand that it maintain military control over the West Bank in any two-state deal. The Israeli public would never accept a deal that did not include a continued Israeli military presence in the West Bank. They have learned the tragic lesson of Gaza and they will not allow it to be repeated in the West Bank.

Jose Maria Aznar: Gaza, Israel, Iran and the Right of Self-Defense—No other army like the IDF takes so many precautions as to avoid inflicting unnecessary casualties. It is also morally imperative to remember that Israel doesn’t target innocent civilians, but combatants in plain clothes, unlike Hamas which fires indiscriminately against population centers. Jerusalem is prompted to show restraint and moderation, but to my knowledge, no other nation has to cope with a neighboring terrorist land and just disregard the rockets flying overhead. Hamas leaders know that Israel fights with one hand tied behind its back: Israel cannot respond intensely because it would be accused of “disproportionality.” Israel cannot inflict either much damage or many enemy casualties because it would be accused of crimes against humanity. The more internationally isolated Iran perceives Israel is, the more daring Iran’s actions will be. That’s why, to bolster Israel’s deterrence – and thus, our own security – we should support Jerusalem in its fight against the terrorists who run Gaza.

Alan M. Dershowitz: How selective body counts incite more violence— The media has obsessively counted every dead body in the conflict between Hamas and Israel. They rarely explain why so many more Palestinians than Israelis have been killed: Hamas does not allow Palestinian civilians into their shelters, while using civilian areas from which to fire their rockets; Israel, on the other hand, devotes its resources to building shelters and Iron Dome protection. Put another way, while Israel uses shelters and Iron Dome to protect its civilians, Hamas uses its civilians to protect its rockets and its terrorists. A widely circulated cartoon makes this point effectively.

SnyderTalk Comment: That’s outrageous.  I have no doubts about Yahweh, but I do have doubts about people who fail to take reasonable precautions.  I’ll go one step further, and it’s an important step.  The audacity of anyone who thinks that Yahweh is more interested in ultra-Orthodox prayers than prayers from far more humble and appreciative believers is almost beyond description.  I spend a fair amount of time in Israel, and I spend most of my time in Jerusalem.  In and around the vicinity of the Temple Mount, ultra-Orthodox Jewish people religiously try to sell me blessings.  In the U.S., we call that panhandling.  I wonder what the rabbi thinks about that.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 21: 9-14

9 Now Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking. 10 Therefore she said to Abraham, “Drive out this maid and her son, for the son of this maid shall not be an heir with my son Isaac.” 11 The matter distressed Abraham greatly because of his son. 12 But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for through Isaac your descendants shall be named. 13 And of the son of the maid I will make a nation also, because he is your descendant.” 14 So Abraham rose early in the morning and took bread and a skin of water and gave them to Hagar, putting them on her shoulder, and gave her the boy, and sent her away. And she departed and wandered about in the wilderness of Beersheba.

SnyderTalk Comment: The bitter resentment between Israel/Jewish people and their Arab cousins started here.  Arabs remain jealous of Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob/Israel to this day.  Read His Name is Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
