Rioting Arabs in Jerusalem: It’s Part of the “Peace Process”

It’s apparent that President Obama and his foreign policy team including Secretary of State John Kerry know nothing about the history of the “peace process” between Israel and the Palestinians, or if they do know the history, they are choosing to ignore it completely.  The latest round of violence in Jerusalem is part of the “peace process” that began in Madrid in 1991 and resulted in the Oslo Accords in 1993.

Since the Oslo Accords took effect, both the frequency and the severity of violence perpetrated by Palestinians against Israeli civilians have increased dramatically.  A partial list of terrorist incidents between 1994 and 2005 that are tied directly to the Accords is revealing, and the violence continues to this day with lulls between “peace” initiatives.

The fact that Palestinian leaders have commandeered the “peace process” and that they are using it to achieve their ultimate objective which is to annihilate Israel should surprise no one because that’s exactly what Palestinian Authority (PA) President Yasser Arafat said he was up to on the very day that he signed the Accords:

“Since we cannot defeat Israel in war we do this in stages.  We take any and every territory that we can of Palestine, and establish sovereignty there, and we use it as a springboard to take more.  When the time comes, we can get the Arab nations to join us for the final blow against Israel.” (Yasser Arafat speaking on Jordanian television, September 13, 1993—the same day the Oslo Peace Accord ceremony was held in Washington D.C.)

Several years earlier, Arafat explained precisely what “peace” means to the Palestinians:

“Peace for us means the destruction of Israel.  We are preparing for an all-out war, a war which will last for generations.  Since January 1965, when Fatah was born, we have become the most dangerous enemy that Israel has….We shall not rest until the day when we return to our home, and until we destroy Israel.” (El Mundo, Caracas, Venezuela, February 11, 1980)

You can’t comprehend what is happening in Israel right now unless you grasp the significance of Arafat’s straightforward explanations.  The current PA president, Mahmoud Abbas, has followed Arafat’s playbook to the letter.  He takes what Israel gives, asks for more, and reneges on every agreement.  Understanding this reality helps to put Morton Klein’s article about the “peace process” into perspective:

We all want the Arab war against Israel to be finally resolved. But is establishing a Palestinian state the answer? Not when the Palestinians’ goal is Israel’s destruction, as opposed to a Palestinian state living in peace with Israel.

Every opportunity the Palestinians had to establish a state was rejected because it meant accepting Israel. The offers they rejected included: a 1937 Peel Commission proposal of a state on 95 percent of territory what is today all of Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza; in 1947 a division of the land into Jewish and Arab states (U.N. Resolution 181); in 2000 the offer of 97 percent of the West Bank, all of Gaza, and eastern Jerusalem made by U.S. President Bill Clinton and endorsed by Prime Minister Ehud Barak; and in 2008 an offer of 98 percent of the West Bank, eastern Jerusalem, and billions in aid from Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

These rejections clearly and painfully show that statehood is not the Palestinians’ goal. American Jews understand this. A recent American Jewish Committee poll shows that 76 percent of U.S. Jews believe the Palestinians’ goal is Israel’s destruction, and only 38 percent support a state.

The president of the Palestinian Authority (PA), Mahmoud Abbas, makes his hatred toward Jews and the Jewish state clear. He and other PA officials proclaim the racist, anti-Semitic statement that no Jews will be permitted to live in a Palestinian state, and that he “do(es) not accept a Jewish state; call it what you will.” In a U.N. speech he condemned Israel for “63 years of occupation,” meaning all of Israel is illegal, and called Israel the “land of Mohammed and Jesus,” denying its Jewish connection. His official emblem shows all of Israel with an Arab headdress over it next to a Kalyshnakov rifle.

Violence in the Old City of Jerusalem has been on the upswing, and by design, it coincides exactly with Secretary Kerry’s much-vaunted attempt to bring Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas to the “peace” table: a Jewish man was stabbed; a Palestinian gang attacked Israeli police cars; and innocent Israeli civilians were victimized by Palestinians in an apparent “price tag” incident.  The two videos below show some of the violence near the Damascus Gate of the Old City:

Anyone who believes that the Palestinians want peace with Israel is deluding himself, and that includes President Obama and Secretary Kerry.  You must deny history and reality to draw any other conclusion.  There isn’t a shred of evidence to support that belief, but there is abundant evidence to support the assertion that Mahmoud Abbas is simply continuing the Arafat strategy of talking peace while orchestrating violence in his pursuit of Israel’s destruction.  Under these conditions, there will be no peace, and that’s what Palestinian leaders want.

Below are several pictures that I took near the Damascus Gate on a recent trip to Jerusalem:

Haviv Rettig Gur: In a confused start to talks, reasons to take heart—In May, shortly after the formation of the new government, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled the 400 or so meters that separate the Prime Minister’s Office from the Foreign Ministry for a chat with Israel’s top diplomats about how he saw the foreign policy priorities of his new term.

Dan Margalit: The price of peace— The Palestinians will bring up the 1967 borders and a settlement construction freeze. Israel demanded that these issues not be preconditions for talks, but there is no avoiding them during negotiations.

Dr. Ephraim Kam: Israel and Egypt: Risks and opportunities—If the military and liberal camp are the dominant elements in Egypt’s next regime, it’s policy toward Israel will likely be more favorable.

David M. Weinberg: On negotiations from strength— Only by asserting our right to 100% of Judea and Samaria can we hope to obtain a fair compromise.

Yoav Limor: Negotiations have security benefits and pitfalls— All eyes will be on possible violence in the West Bank now, as the IDF believes Hamas and Jewish extremists will act to derail the new peace talks.

Morton A. Klein: A Palestinian State Won’t Bring Peace—We all want the Arab war against Israel to be finally resolved.

Shimon Stein: The ElBaradei and Fahmy Appointments: Continuity in Egypt’s Interim Government— As part of the difficult task of establishing an interim government in Egypt, Prime Minister Hazem el-Beblawi appointed Nabil Fahmy as Foreign Minister. The previous week Mohamed ElBaradei was appointed Vice President for Foreign Affairs. What do these appointments suggest about Egypt’s relations with Israel?

Daniel Greenfield: Muslim Self-Esteem… or the Stars— These days we choose harder tasks than going to the moon. It was neat seeing Neil Armstrong take a stroll in the Sea of Tranquility, but that’s child’s play compared to the truly difficult task of making Muslims feel good about their historic contribution of pilfering Algebra from the Hindus.

Cinnamon Stillwell: Academia’s Love Letter to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood— Now that Egyptians have overthrown the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) government of former president Mohammed Morsi, how have scholars of the Middle East responded? With encomia, nostalgia, and conspiracy theories.  Instead of acknowledging the ineptitude and dictatorial behavior that led to the Muslim Brotherhood’s ouster, some alluded to shadowy conspiracies involving the U.S. This despite the Obama administration’s open support for the Brotherhood and its push for MB participation in a new democratic political process, much to the consternation of the Egyptian street, not to mention many Americans.

Bruce Thornton: Our Race-Hack President—As protests against the Zimmerman verdict spread, along with the vandalism and shopping sprees that progressives call “demonstrations,” the President last Friday made some remarks that reinforced all the race-hack rhetoric keeping this country racially divided and most blacks mired in social and economic misery. Not satisfied with his remark from last year that if he had a son he’d look like Trayvon Martin––thus injecting racial animus into a case where it didn’t exist––Obama said Friday, “Trayvon Martin could have been me 35 years ago,” and went on to cite three examples of lingering racism in America, the first two of which he says he’s experienced personally.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

  1. The Morton Klein article was good ,especially coupled with Damascus Gate riot videos.

Am I wrong but do the radicalized Democratic race baiters remind you of the Israeli opposition ?

  2. Yes they do. The left in the U.S. and the left in Israel are cut from the same cloth.
