President Obama’s True Leanings are Becoming Clear
“As I have said since the Egyptian Revolution, the United States supports a set of core principles, including opposition to violence, protection of universal human rights, and reform that meets the legitimate aspirations of the people. The United States does not support particular individuals or political parties, but we are committed to the democratic process and respect for the rule of law.”
Do you know who spoke those words? It was none other than President Barack Obama, and he made those remarks in response to the Egyptian military’s ousting of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.
The Egyptian military’s actions may have been a coup, but they were taken at the behest of the Egyptian people who were moving headlong toward open revolt and civil war—a result that would have led to bloodshed and senseless loss of life similar to the civil war in Syria. At the same time, it would have contributed mightily to an increasingly unstable Middle East and an increasingly insecure Israel—the United States only dependable ally in the Middle East.
What do President Obama’s remarks at this juncture tell us about him and his true proclivities? What do those remarks tell us about his ability to correctly assess the rapidly unfolding situation in the Middle East and in the rest of the world? Even more, what do they tell us about his suitability to serve as President of the United States?
I have a strong hunch that the president’s decision to reevaluate U.S. aid to Egypt at this precise moment will lead to escalating division in the U.S. Congress and contribute greatly to his inability to govern—something that he has proven over and over again that he cannot do. It is indeed ironic that Obama would chastise the Egyptian military for not abiding by the democratic process and the rule of law when his administration more than any other in my lifetime, including the Nixon administration, has thumbed its collective nose at those hallmarks of our government.
Obama’s IRS has morphed into a political machine the virtual purpose of which is to harass and bring into submission the president’s political opponents. His use of executive orders to circumvent Congress and defy the will of the American people is becoming the stuff of legend. Executive agencies of his administration have done the same thing by issuing regulations that are in direct opposition to the will of lawmakers and the American people. I repeat: it is curiously ironic that the president would criticize anyone for not abiding by the democratic process and the rule of law because those are the very things for which his entire administration is best known.
If Obama had called for a review when it became apparent that Egypt under Morsi had become a brutal and repressive dictatorship that was led by the Muslim Brotherhood, right-minded people would have supported him, but he didn’t. Fact is that many of those right-minded people had called for a review because they could see what was happening in Egypt. Instead, the president waited until the bloodthirsty leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood were kicked out of government and taken to jail. That fact is telling. It suggests strongly that President Obama’s heart is with the Islamists of the Middle East, particularly those in Egypt, and that the people of the region are of little value to him. In short, he thinks the same way that Islamists think.
Hopefully, the American people are waking up to that reality. If they are, we may be heading for open revolt in the United States—rebellion against autocratic rule by an inept president and his hooligan and thug supporters in government. You can see the divisions growing in Congress, and you can see it taking shape across the nation. Let’s hope that Congress can do its job and that we can avoid bloodshed, but there is a lesson to be learned from what just happened in Egypt and what is taking place in Syria. The people are willing to take only so much abuse before they take it upon themselves to rectify the situation.

Ashraf Khalil: Egypt’s Military Ousts President Morsi, Angering His Islamist Supporters—After days of mounting speculation and brinkmanship, the Egyptian army carried out its threat to end the country’s crippling ideological divide by ousting President Mohamed Morsi — just over one year after he was inaugurated as the country’s first democratically elected civilian President. Defense Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sissi announced the move shortly after 9 p.m. Cairo time, following two hours of military deployment with soldiers and armored personal carriers taking up positions around the capital.
