Mohamed Morsi’s “I Didn’t Say What I Said” Defense

This has to be the best example of the “I didn’t say what I said” defense that I have ever seen.  Normal people with any sense of pride or shame would be reluctant to use it because it’s so patently absurd, and it tells us a great deal about Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi.

Let’s begin by looking at Morsi’s defense:

In a television interview that the paper [the New York Times] said he made months later, Morsi described Zionists as “these bloodsuckers who attack the Palestinians, these warmongers, the descendants of apes and pigs.”

Morsi told a delegation of US senators visiting Cairo on Wednesday that the remarks needed to be put “in the context in which they were said,” his spokesman said in a statement.

That context was Israeli “aggression” against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the spokesman said, a possible reference to an Israeli military operation in Gaza in 2008 and 2009.

[…]

Morsi told the [U.S.] delegation [led by Senator John McCain] he was committed to freedom of religion and belief, his spokesman said, adding: “his Excellency (Morsi) pointed out the need to distinguish between the Jewish religion, and those who belong to it, and violent actions against defenseless Palestinians.”

That’s Morsi’s defense as reported in the Jerusalem Post.  I’ll say more about it later, but now let’s take a look at the video showing Morsi delivering the remarks that landed him in hot water.  Click here to watch the video.

There is no denying the fact that Morsi called Zionists “blood-suckers”, “warmongers”, and “the descendants of apes and pigs”.  He also called Zionists “occupiers of the land of Palestine.”  That includes all of Israel.  But he didn’t stop there.  He said that Zionists and Americans are “enemies.”  All of those statements are crystal clear and revealing if you have the capacity to open your eyes and see what is taking place right in front of you.

Now, let’s return to Morsi’s defense and do a little parsing.  The context in 2010 when he made those remarks was “Israeli ‘aggression’ against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,” or so his spokesman said.  Interestingly, there was no fighting in 2010 except for the near-daily barrage of rockets and mortars coming from Gaza on orders from Hamas and recurrent random acts of terror against Israelis.  In a nutshell, if Morsi’s spokesman is reporting accurately, Morsi is lying.

But the spokesman didn’t stop there.  He said that there is a “need to distinguish between the Jewish religion, and those who belong to it, and violent actions against defenseless Palestinians.”

I assume that he’s still speaking for his boss because no other assumption makes any sense.  If that’s correct, Morsi must mean that Jews are okay, but Jews who have faith are “blood-suckers”, “warmongers”, and “the descendants of apes and pigs”.  And the part about “violent attacks against defenseless Palestinians” is deliciously stupid since Israel is fighting for survival in a hostile environment and has been since 1948.  Both the Hamas and Palestinian charters call for Israel’s destruction to this day.

Those so-called “defenseless Palestinians” have lobbed tens of thousands of rockets and mortars at innocent Israeli civilians over the years.  On top of that, they have engaged in heinous terrorist attacks that include slaughtering Israeli families while they sleep, bombings in crowded locations, and staged-for-the-camera rock throwing events aimed at innocent Israeli citizens who are simply driving their cars, walking, or praying.

That means Morsi’s defense is preposterous.  He was caught red-handed on camera.  He should have said, “I said it and I meant it” or “I said it, but I was just pandering to the bloodthirsty Islamists in Egypt hoping one day to be their leader.”  I’m not suggesting that either of those explanations would excuse Morsi or solve his immediate problem, but I am saying that either one of them is more believable than the one he chose to use.

I wish that I could say only Jew haters and Islamists will believe Morsi’s defense, but when I think about all of the useful idiots in the world, I know that’s not true.  In fact, the highest ranking useful idiot in the world today lives in a big white house in Washington, D.C.  I’ll bet that he’ll use Morsi’s defense to support giving Egypt more of our money and weapons.  And don’t think for one second that Islamists aren’t gaining sway in our capital.  They have infiltrated agencies of our government and are brazenly bragging about it in their press.

Does President Obama know this?  Of course he does.  There is no rational way to conclude that he doesn’t know.  Stated another way, if he doesn’t know, he’s incompetent beyond comprehension.

As the indomitable Alice of Wonderland fame said, things are getting “curiouser and curiouser.”  Who knows where this will end?  I don’t, of course, because I’m part of the unwashed masses that need help to be confused.

4--Scripture of the Day

Ezekiel 42: 10-12

In the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, facing the separate area and facing the building, there were chambers. The way in front of them was like the appearance of the chambers which were on the north, according to their length so was their width, and all their exits were both according to their arrangements and openings. Corresponding to the openings of the chambers which were toward the south was an opening at the head of the way, the way in front of the wall toward the east, as one enters them.

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Michael Freund: Barack Obama: Conceited-in-chief— Anyone who thought that a victory in the November elections would bring out the softer, gentler side of Barack Obama’s policy toward Israel was bound to be in for a rude awakening.

Yoram Ettinger: It’s not the Palestinians— President Obama’s preoccupation with the Palestinian issue, and criticism of Israel, is out of the American mainstream.

Dan Margalit: Obama didn’t help Livni— The American president who criticized the prime minister so harshly completely ignored the Palestinians’ responsibility for the stalemate.

Dror Eydar: A radical, by any other name— Is dividing Jerusalem a radical act? Is subjecting parts of the Old City to foreign jurisdiction — one other than Israel’s — a radical act? The majority of Israeli citizens think so.

Ruthie Blum: Netanyahu’s not the culprit— He is merely the current excuse for anti-Israel sentiment.

Boaz Bismuth: The new world dis-order— How ironic that a small terrorist organization in Algeria managed to do what France couldn’t — make the campaign in Mali an international affair.

Dr. Haim Shine: The naivete of the Israeli elite— An Israeli prime minister is obligated to the safety of the people, not to the global interests of a foreign power.

Gonen Ginat: With a little help from my friends— What were Obama’s advisers thinking when they leaked the remarks suggesting that the president doesn’t like Netanyahu? Didn’t they realize that it would only boost Netanyahu’s popularity?

Dovid Efune: The Silver Lining: Chuck Hagel, Meet Naftali Bennett—It was ironic that back in 2009 soon after the United States voted one of the most dovish Presidents in its history to power, its key ally Israel lurched in the opposite direction, electing the relatively hawkish…

Paul Bogdanor: Chomsky and the Terror Masters—As a defamer of his fellow Jews, Noam Chomsky is in a class of his own. “Hitler’s conceptions,” he once wrote, “have struck a responsive…

Jonathan S. Tobin: Does Obama Know Better than Israel What Its Interests Are?—The accusations that the White House used Jeffrey Goldberg’s column to get even with Netanyahu are probably untrue. The president and his foreign policy team are probably aware that an American attempt to influence the vote in Israel would backfire. Obama is deeply unpopular in Israel and every time he has picked a fight with Netanyahu it has only strengthened the prime minister’s standing at home.

Roshanak Taghavi: Iran Braces for Full Force of U.S. Sanctions—U.S. sanctions set to hit Tehran on Feb. 6 will formally regulate global banking constraints that Iranian banks and businesses have been facing, on an informal basis, for more than two years. The aim of the new measure is for Tehran’s oil revenues to become largely “shackled” within any country buying oil from Iran.

Lt.-Col. (ret.) Michael Segall: Iranian Policy toward Direct Nuclear Talks with the U.S.— Different voices may be heard in Iran regarding direct talks with the United States. Khamenei and his spokesmen, including his representatives in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), firmly oppose such talks or engagement, claiming they hold no benefit in terms of the Iranian interest. On the other hand, elements within intelligence, the Majlis (parliament), and the IRGC maintain that under certain conditions direct talks could be held with the U.S.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Palestinians: Fatah’s Armed Gangs Are Back— After keeping a low profile for the past few years, Fatah’s armed gangs have resurfaced in the West Bank. Their reappearance means either that the PA is really losing control, or that it is using the gunmen as a means of intimidating donor countries into resuming financial aid to the Palestinian government in the West Bank.

David P. Goldman: Mohamed Morsi Is a Scandal Bigger than Benghazi— It’s no news that Mohamed Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood is an extremist, anti-Semitic monstrosity. The disgusting eruption of Jew-hatred from Morsi in 2010 is nothing new. What is new is the fact that the Obama administration and the New York Times are shocked — shocked — to discover the Morsi is a rabid Jew-hater.

Leo Rennert: Times Paints Grim Picture of Israeli Arabs—The New York Times is peddling a false picture of downtrodden Arabs in Israel.

Paul Sperry: Egyptian Press Confirms Washington Infiltrated By Islamists— The radical Muslim Brotherhood doesn’t just threaten Israel and Mideast peace. According to the Egyptian press, several of its operatives have infiltrated the U.S. government and are influencing policy here.

Bruce Bawer: Campus Jihad, British Style—Islamic radicalization at U.K. universities exposed.

Katrina Trinko: Obama vs. ‘the Gun Lobby’—Stiffed by the White House, the NRA talks back.

David Kupelian: How Obama’s gun ‘order’ will backfire—Among the 23 “executive actions” President Obama announced yesterday amidst great fanfare (and shameless exploitation of children) is this: “Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.” Obama may want to put a hold on that one, until he comes to grips with what happened the last time a U.S. president tried it.

William A. Levinson: New York Declares War on the Second Amendment—New York’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo, has just shown why supporters of the Bill of Rights must use legal, nonviolent, and socially acceptable methods to destroy gun grabber organizations like the Million Mom March in 2000 and break political careers.

Diana West: Obama Uses Children as Pawns in His Power Grab— Not one of the 23 executive orders that President Obama signed — flanked by schoolchildren whom none of us want to see murdered and before an audience that included relatives of murdered schoolchildren — would have prevented the massacre at Sandy Hook.

Marco Rubio: President Obama is Abusing his Executive Powers—Sen. Marco Rubio R-Fla. criticized President Obama moments ago for his speech promoting gun control and abusing his executive powers. The president initiated 23 executive orders during his press conference, vowing to “use whatever weight this office holds” to promote his agenda.

Charles Hurt: Gun Edicts Put Personal Liberty Under Fire—Where is the liberal outrage? Where is the liberal suspicion about powerful, unchecked governments? Where is the liberal unflinching devotion to individual liberty? We have a president who has radically reshaped the landscape of American government so that it is more of a behemoth than at any time in history and more involved in every aspect of our lives. It is also more unanswerable than ever before. Now this president is issuing 23 new edicts aimed at curbing individuals’ gun rights. At the same time, his federal agencies are stockpiling more and more weapons and ammunition.

G. Donald Allen: Lies and the National Agenda—Where the “new lie” is concerned, the old “common sense” litmus test no longer applies.

Tom Blumer: Ben Bernanke Has Betrayed Us All—Federal Reserve Chairman parrots Obama propaganda on getting rid of the debt ceiling.

Daniel Greenfield: Gun Violence is Not a Republican Problem, It’s a Democratic Problem—Obama’s America is broken, the rest of the country isn’t.

Kerri-Ann Jennings, M.S., R.D.: The diet mistake even nutritionists make— A new study, published in the August 2012 issue of the Journal of Consumer Research, helps explain why the size of our plates affects how much we’re eating. Turns out, our behavior is directly influenced by what our eyes perceive, even when we know better. So, for example, you’ll serve yourself–and eat–less on a 6-inch plate than a 9-inch plate because it looks more satisfying.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
