Exodus Chapter 24
- He then said to Moses, ‘Come up to Yahweh, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel and bow down at a distance.
- Moses alone will approach Yahweh; the others will not approach, nor will the people come up with him.’
- Moses went and told the people all Yahweh’s words and all the laws, and all the people answered with one voice, ‘All the words Yahweh has spoken we will carry out!’
- Moses put all Yahweh’s words into writing, and early next morning he built an altar at the foot of the mountain, with twelve standing-stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.
- Then he sent certain young Israelites to offer burnt offerings and sacrifice bullocks to Yahweh as communion sacrifices.
- Moses then took half the blood and put it into basins, and the other half he sprinkled on the altar.
- Then, taking the Book of the Covenant, he read it to the listening people, who then said, ‘We shall do everything that Yahweh has said; we shall obey.’
- Moses then took the blood and sprinkled it over the people, saying, ‘This is the blood of the covenant which Yahweh has made with you, entailing all these stipulations.’
- Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders of Israel then went up,
- and they saw the God of Israel beneath whose feet there was what looked like a sapphire pavement pure as the heavens themselves,
- but he did no harm to the Israelite notables; they actually gazed on God and then ate and drank.
- Yahweh said to Moses, ‘Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the stone tablets – the law and the commandment — which I have written for their instruction.’
- Moses made ready, with Joshua his assistant, and they went up the mountain of God.
- He said to the elders, ‘Wait here for us until we come back to you. You have Aaron and Hur with you; if anyone has any matter to settle, let him go to them.’
- Moses then went up the mountain. Cloud covered the mountain.
- The glory of Yahweh rested on Mount Sinai and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day Yahweh called to Moses from inside the cloud.
- To the watching Israelites, the glory of Yahweh looked like a devouring fire on the mountain top.
- Moses went right into the cloud and went on up the mountain. Moses stayed on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.

SnyderTalk® Commentary
In Exodus 24: 1, Yahweh tells Moses to bring Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders to the top of Mount Sinai to bow down before Him at a distance. Only Moses would be allowed to approach Yahweh.
In v. 5, we are told that Moses offered “commune sacrifices.” The NASB calls them “peace offerings to Yahweh.” Then Moses read the Book of the Covenant to the people. They, in turn, agreed to do everything Yahweh commanded. (v. 7) Moses then took the blood of the sacrificial animals and sprinkled it on the people. (v. 8) Listen to Moses’ words: “’This is the blood of the covenant which Yahweh has made with you, entailing all these stipulations.” In v. 9, we are told that Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy elders went to the top of the mountain just as they were told.
In v. 10, we learn that they actually saw Yahweh. Beneath His feet, there was something that looked like sapphire pavement. V. 11 tells us that all of them gazed at Yahweh and had a meal in His presence, but they were unharmed. This is important. All of them saw the physical presence of Yahweh. It was not an apparition, an illusion, or a hologram. The people down below saw only the glory of Yahweh—His Shekinah. To them, He looked like a devouring fire at the top of the mountain.
Now, take a look at this description of the Messiah in Revelation: “After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, ‘Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.’ Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne. And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne, like an emerald in appearance.” (Revelation 4: 1-3)
Many people say that no one has ever seen Yahweh, and that He doesn’t have a physical form. That’s simply not so. The Old Testament and the New Testament make clear that Yahweh has a human form, and people have seen Him. In previous SnyderTalk posts, I talked about Yahweh appearing many times to meet with people and tell them about His plans. Abraham, for instance, entertained Yahweh several times. For details, read His Name is Yahweh. Specifically, read chapter 5, “Yahweh has a Human Form.”
While I was writing the book, the mother of one of my Jewish students agreed to read the manuscript for me. She was thoroughly familiar with Jewish teachings regarding Yahweh, and she had serious misgivings about my assertion that Yahweh appeared many times in the Old Testament (the Tanach) as a Man. When she finished reading chapter 5, she wrote me a short email. It simply said, “You’re right. Yahweh does have a human form.”
In fact, the Person most Christians call Jesus is Yahweh. Reading His Name is Yahweh will prove that fact beyond a shadow of a doubt. If you believe the Bible, you can’t refute it. Let’s be thankful that we have a personal God and Savior and tell people about Him by Name.

- Congress must stop the trial in NYC I respectfully disagree. Why? Because radical Islamist terrorists can’t hate us any more than they do already, and people in our country don’t fully appreciate how dangerous they are. The trials will awaken our people to the real danger they face because they have been targeted by these pseudo religious nutjobs, many I suspect for the first time.
