November 12, 2020 SnyderTalk—Yahweh’s Name is the Same in Every Language

“Seek Yahweh while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return to Yahweh, and He will have compassion on him. Turn to our Elohim, for He will abundantly pardon.”

Isaiah 55: 6-7

Yahweh’s Name is the Same in Every Language

I started doing research for the book His Name is Yahweh more than 2 decades ago. While I was researching and writing the book, I made presentations about Yahweh’s Name to groups ranging in size from a handful of people in someone’s living room to hundreds of people in auditoriums and churches. I have made presentations in many Messianic congregations as well. Most of them are open to the truth.

In typical churches, after I have presented the facts as clearly as I know how, people will look at me and say “I don’t get it.” When I suggest they read the book, I can tell by the looks on their faces that they aren’t interested. It’s painful to watch.

In October 2004, I was at the YMCA Three Arches Hotel in Jerusalem talking about Yahweh’s Name with a small group. We were there for an Israeli security conference. One member of our group was a man who had been a preacher. He had gotten out of preaching, because as he told me, “It doesn’t pay well enough.” He had gotten into “Christian” fundraising. That’s why he was with us. He loved quoting Scripture, so he raised his head high in the air and with a smug look on his face, he said, “Neil, the Bible says, ‘at the name of Jesus every knee will bow.’”

I said, “The Bible does not say that!”

That startled him. I could tell. You would have thought that I had hit him in the face. Then, I quoted the verses to which he was referring to prove my point:

“For this reason also, Elohim highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the Name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus the Messiah is Yahweh, to the glory of Elohim the Father.” (Philippians 2: 9-11)

  1. Yahweh is the Name that is above every name.
  2. The Father bestowed the Name “Yahweh” on the Messiah.
  3. Yahweh is “the Name of Jesus”.
  4. Yahweh is the Name to which every knee will bow.

That’s what Paul was saying in Philippians 2: 9-11. Regrettably, most Christians hear and remember only this small piece of Paul’s message, “At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow.”

It is true that most English translations of the Bible include the phrase “the name of Jesus” in Philippians 2: 10, but it is referring to the Name Yahweh. Regrettably, people misquote, misinterpret, and mistranslate Paul’s letters all the time. This is a perfect example. See “The Trilogy”.

Jeremiah told us the Messiah’s Name hundreds of years before Paul arrived on the scene:

“In His [the Messiah’s] days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His Name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 6)

The Messiah is Yahweh. That’s the point. For more than 20 years I have been talking with Christians about Yahweh’s Name. Sometimes they become indignant when I tell them that the Messiah’s Name is Yahweh. Some of them are so angry with me that their faces turn red. That’s a sight to behold. I think I have heard every excuse Christians have for refusing to accept the truth.

By the time I was ready to publish the book, I had heard enough of those excuses to catalogue them and include a section in the book about them. Below is that section of the book. It appears on pages 40-41.

Excuses People Use to Justify Not Calling Yahweh by His Name

Reducing the risk of using Yahweh’s Name in vain or blaspheming His Name are the two most logical reasons advanced for not saying it or writing it. However, over the centuries people have come up with many more so-called “justifications” for not using His Name. They include the following:

  • It is too sacred.
  • We are not required to use it.
  • It has no real value.
  • Yahweh is a Hebrew Name, and people who do not speak Hebrew are not required to use it.
  • Only Jews are required to use the Name “Yahweh”.
  • Jesus and His disciples did not use the Name “Yahweh” so we are not required to use it either.
  • The correct pronunciation of Yahweh’s Name has been lost over time.
  • Jehovah is the Name for Elohim most commonly used today, and it is sufficient and appropriate.
  • Yahweh knows when we are addressing Him so the name we use is unimportant.
  • Yahweh has not convicted me personally about the importance of using His Name.
  • Moses was the first person to use the Name “Yahweh” so the Name itself is not eternal.

These are just a few of the many excuses that people have come up with to defend their practice of not using Yahweh’s Name. None of them stand up under careful scrutiny. For instance, while it is true that Moses took Yahweh’s Name to the Children of Israel when they were in bondage in Egypt, Enosh—Seth’s son and Adam’s grandson—invoked His Name shortly after the creation.

In chapter 10, you will see that Jesus and His disciples used Yahweh’s Name, and the Psalms talk repeatedly about the importance of declaring His Name. Further, no one should require Yahweh to convict him personally about the importance of obeying each explicit command in the Scriptures. We should obey Yahweh because we love Him. In fact, there is no good excuse for disobeying Him, and He commanded us to declare His Name to the world. That’s certain.

A Few More Points

Point 1

I have a friend in Israel whose name is Ishai. When Ishai and his wife, Hanita, visit Katie and me in the U.S., I introduce him as Ishai. I never tell anyone that King David’s father’s name was Ishai, not Jessie. And I never tell anyone that it’s okay to call Ishai “Jessie”, because that is not his name.

Ishai travels all over the world. His name is Ishai in every country he visits regardless of the language spoken.

In English, my name is Neil. In Hebrew, my name is Neil, too. In Turkish, my name is Neil as well. This is not complicated.

Yahweh’s Name is the same in every language. In Chinese, Norwegian, German, French, English, and every other language, His Name is Yahweh. Nothing can change that fact.

Point 2

Several years ago, I was giving a talk on Yahweh’s name to a small group in Florida. Unbeknownst to me, an 80-year-old retired preacher was part of the group. When I finished making my presentation, he looked at me and said, “I wondered about that while I was in seminary.”

I said, “You were a preacher?”

“All of my life,” he said.

“What did you wonder?” I asked.

“I knew that LORD and GOD were substitutes for God’s Name, and I wondered why we didn’t use the correct Name. At that time, I thought God’s name was Jehovah. Now, I know it’s Yahweh.”

I looked into his eyes. Yahweh’s Spirit had confirmed my message for him. The light had come on. He got it.

No one is too old or too churched or too indoctrinated or too tradition-bound to get it. To get this message, all you have to do is open your mind and stop making excuses. Let Yahweh confirm the truth for you.

If you are in love with the name “Jesus”, get over it. His name was never Jesus. At birth, He was given the name Yeshua. It means “Yahweh saves”. And the Messiah told us that He is Yahweh. The name “Jesus” was made up.

Some people have told me that telling “Christians” the truth may cause them to lose faith. I say, “That’s ridiculous!” If someone’s “faith” can be shaken that easily, he didn’t have faith that leads to salvation to start with. He was just a churchgoer, probably a Christmas and Easter churchgoer.

As Adrian Rogers used to say, “A faith that isn’t tested can’t be trusted.” He was right.

In Yahweh’s eyes, there are no good excuses for rejecting the truth about His Name. If learning the truth becomes a test of faith, so be it.

Point 3

I created a website to get the message out all over the world. It’s called “His Name is Yahweh”. Go to the website. Explore it. Examine every page. Share it, too. That’s how we reach the world.

The Truth is Getting Out Despite Stubborn Resistance

See “His Name is Yahweh: A True Story“.

More than a decade ago, a group of Nigerian preachers emailed me and asked for permission to copy His Name is Yahweh for use in their congregations. I gave them my permission and told them that I would post it on the internet in PDF format so that their congregations could read it on their computers.

A few days ago, a friend sent me the YouTube video below. It is a group of Nigerians singing about Yahweh. When I saw it, Yahweh told me that I had played a part in getting the message out in Nigeria. The book is being used in many other countries as well including China, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia. There are many more.

No One and Nothing Can Prevent Yahweh from Getting His Message Out

No one and nothing can prevent Yahweh from getting His message out to the world. It’s an important message no matter what anyone thinks. Stop making excuses and get with the program.

Yahweh’s Name is not important because I say it’s important. It’s important because Yahweh says it’s important:

“Therefore behold, I am going to make them know, this time I will make them know My power and My might, and they shall know that My Name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.”
