What is it with “Liberal Progressives” and Virtue Signaling?
What is Virtue Signaling?
Virtue signaling is “an action or practice of publicly expressing opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one’s good character or the moral correctness of one’s position on a particular issue. It’s noticeable how often virtue signaling consists of saying you hate things.”
Virtue signaling is a way of saying, “I’m better than you.”
Self-righteous Christians virtue signal all the time. Singer-song writer Ray Stevens invented a name for them: “Sister Bertha Better-than-you”:
The Woman Caught in Adultery
Sanctimonious people really bother me. They bother the Messiah, too:
The Messiah returned to the Mount of Olives, but early the next morning He was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and He sat down and taught them. As He was speaking, the teachers of religious law [Halacha] and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd.
“Teacher,” they said to the Messiah, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses [the Torah] says to stone her. What do you say?”
They were trying to trap Him into saying something they could use against him, but the Messiah stooped down and wrote in the dust with His finger. They kept demanding an answer, so He stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!” Then He stooped down again and wrote in the dust.
When the woman’s accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only the Messiah was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then the Messiah stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said.
And the Messiah said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”

The Messiah didn’t condone adultery. He recognized what the self-righteous teachers of Halacha were up to, and He made it perfectly clear that they were guilty, too.
The woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. So was a man. The religious leaders didn’t bring him to the Messiah. Why?
An Example of Virtue Signaling
About 20 years ago, I was in the Earth Fare store in 5 Points in Athens, Georgia. A young woman was in front of me in the checkout line. I didn’t know her, and she didn’t know me. Our being that close together was mere happenstance.
She was probably a University of Georgia student, about 20-years-old. I was about 50 at the time. I had gone to Earth Fare because it was near my parent’s house, and I wanted some Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream. While the cashier was checking her groceries, the young woman turned around, looked at my ice cream, and said, “Vanilla ice cream is so bland.”
That seemed strange to me. I said, “I like vanilla ice cream, and besides, it’s the base for almost every other ice cream, and it’s great with strawberries.”
She turned up her nose and looked away.
The young woman was still standing at the end of the checkout counter when the cashier finished ringing up my purchase. The cashier asked if I wanted a paper or a plastic bag, and I said, “Paper.”
The young woman looked at me and said, “You know they cut down trees to make those bags, don’t you?”
Obviously, she was determined to show me how superior she was. Why that mattered to her is a mystery to me. As I said, we didn’t know each other. The odds of us ever seeing each other again were practically zero, but she wanted me to know that she was special.
I told her, “Trees are a renewable resource, and paper is biodegradable. Plastic is not.”
She turned up her nose again and stamped off in a huff. It was an overly dramatic exit for sure. She was communicating.
That happened long before we learned that state-sized globs of plastic are floating in our oceans and endangering fish populations. Today, people like her are standing in grocery store checkout lines telling people who choose plastic that they are killing innocent fish and threatening our ecosystem.
“Liberal progressives” will turn on dime. One day they will demonize the use of paper, and the next day they will vilify the use of plastic. It depends on what the politically correct view is at that instant. Right and wrong and facts never enter their minds. To them, their about-faces aren’t hypocritical. Unprincipled turns are the price “liberal progressives” are willing to pay to be seen by others at any given moment as being superior.
Another Example of Virtue Signaling
Since the day Donald Trump announced that he was running for president, “liberal progressives” in the Democrat Party and the Republican Party have done everything they could think of to disparage him. At first, they mocked and ridiculed him for running. Democrats said that he had no political experience and that he would never become president. Jeb Bush, the Republican frontrunner at the time, said that Donald Trump had no chance of winning the GOP nomination.
Despite the odds against him, Trump won the GOP nomination and the presidency. Then he proceeded to do the unimaginable. He actually did what he told voters he would do. Establishment politicians don’t do that. They say whatever they need to say to win votes, and then they do whatever they want to do if they are elected.
Since Day One of his presidency, Donald Trump has accomplished one impossible goal after another. Democrats have tried to destroy him each step of they way:
- Democrats and their operatives in the FBI and the DOJ spied on the president’s campaign and accused him of colluding with Vladimir Putin to win the 2016 election.
- Democrats charged the president with an attempted quid pro quo with the President of Ukraine and tried to impeach him.
- Democrats blamed the president for the coronavirus pandemic and used it to try to destroy the fabulous Trump economy.
- Democrats manufactured race riots in Democrat-run cities across America and blamed the president for the loss of life and property that they engineered.
Nothing has worked. In the midst of it all, President Trump engineered a Middle East peace deal that includes two Arab countries: United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. It’s the first major step forward in Middle East peace in more than two decades.
“Liberal progressive” Democrats are going stark raving mad. They are beside themselves. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is a perfect example. She has threatened to impeach the president again if he nominates a someone to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the Supreme Court. The president will do that tomorrow, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has promised that the Senate will confirm his nominee.
Will Pelosi follow through with her threat to impeach the president? She might, but if she does, she will fail again.
Nancy Pelosi is a fool. She will say and do anything to take down the president. She is grasping at straws.
For Democrats, their operatives, and their supporters, hating President Trump is virtue signaling. They belittle the president at every turn, and they ridicule people who support him. Hillary Clinton referred to Trump supporters as “deplorables”. Then she told us what that means:
Virtue signaling didn’t work for Hillary Clinton, and it won’t work for Joe Biden, either. Trump trounced Hillary in the Electoral College. He’ll do the same thing to Biden.
President Trump’s supporters aren’t deplorable. They are decent Americans who have had enough of the status quo in Washington where injustice and corruption prevail.
What Does the Democrat Party Stand For?
“Liberal progressive” Democrats see themselves as being morally and intellectually superior. They will say and do just about anything, but these are the things that the Democrat Party actually stands for:
- Abortion on demand at any stage of fetal development
- Partial-birth abortion
- Gay marriage
- Sodomy
- Pedophilia
- Socialism, infanticide, and bestiality are on the Democrat agenda
None of the things on that list suggest moral or intellectual superiority. Quite the opposite. They point to moral degradation and rank perversion.
Democrats are evil in the truest sense of the word. That’s what they represent. That’s what they stand for.
Virtue Signaling is Evidence of an Inferiority Complex
Virtue signaling for Democrats is a sign that they are desperately insecure. They have an inferiority complex. They feel the need to tell Americans how superior they are, because the evidence says that they are inferior to the bone.
Decent Americans have had enough of “liberal progressive” Democrats and Republicans. They deserve what they are about to get. I would not want to be in their shoes when they stand before their Creator.
At this moment, Democrats are glorifying Ruth Bader Ginsburg. For more than a quarter of a century, she was a staunch supporter on the Supreme Court of the evil causes championed by Democrats. Millions of innocent unborn children were butchered thanks to Supreme Court Justices like Ginsburg. She should have been ashamed, but she wasn’t. She was a mindless “liberal progressive”. I hope those slaughtered children were called to testify against her in Yahweh’s court.
There is nothing “liberal” nor “progressive” nor virtuous about tearing children apart limb-by-limb. That’s what Ginsburg and Democrats stand for most.
