Yahweh will Give You the Desires of Your Heart

These two verses are as misunderstood as any verses in the Bible:

“Delight yourself in Yahweh; and He will give you the desires of your heart.  Commit your way to Yahweh, trust also in Him, and He will do it.” (Psalm 37: 4-5)

Point 1

If you delight yourself in Yahweh, He doesn’t give you everything you want.  He gives you His desires, so that His desires become your desires.

Let it sink in.

Yahweh gives you His desires, not your desires.

Point 2

If you commit your way to Yahweh and trust in Him, He will give you His desires.

Trust in Yahweh means to have faith in Him.  From Yahweh’s perspective, having faith in Him is not just about believing in Him.  Faith in Yahweh, saving faith, is inextricably connected with doing what He wants you to do.

I call it the faith of Abraham.  It’s faith with legs that are willing to go where Yahweh says go and to do what Yahweh says do.  For details, see “The Trilogy”.

Point 3

Yahweh expects all of us to demonstrate faith with legs, the faith of Abraham.

Salvation and Yahweh’s other blessings are not connected with our believing in His existence.  All of Yahweh’s blessings are connected with our willingness to do what He tells us to do.

James explained it well:

But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” You believe that Elohim is One. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder. But are you willing to recognize, you foolish fellow, that faith without works is useless? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar? You see that faith was working with his works, and as a result of the works, faith was perfected; and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “and Abraham believed Elohim, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,” and he was called the friend of Elohim. You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone. In the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead. (James 2: 18-26)

The Messiah explained it this way:

“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of Elohim abides on him.” (John 3: 36)

The Messiah is Yahweh.  For details, see “His Name is Yahweh: Revised Edition”.  Therefore, obeying the Son means obeying Yahweh.

Satan the Deceiver

Isn’t it interesting that John 3: 16 is quoted so often and John 3: 36 is hardly quoted at all?

I’m not criticizing anyone who quotes John 3: 16.  I’m pointing out that John 3: 16 can’t be understood correctly without John 3: 36.

There is a reason why John 3: 16 attracts so much attention and John 3: 36 attracts almost no attention:

“I am not surprised! Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11: 14)

No one is better than Satan at misquoting or selectively quoting Scripture.  Remember who he used to be:

“You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of Elohim; every precious stone adorned you: carnelian, chrysolite and emerald, topaz, onyx and jasper, lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of Elohim; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until wickedness was found in you.” (Ezekiel 28: 12-15)

Delight yourself in Yahweh.  Have faith in Him, and He will give you His desires.  That means His desires will become your desires.

If Yahweh’s desires are your desires, you are safe.  If Yahweh’s desires are not your desires, you are in danger.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
