The Algemeiner—The ‘If Only Israel’ Syndrome:

The “If Only Israel” (IOI) syndrome is the misguided notion — peddled in the name of Israel’s “best interests” by some in the diplomatic, academic, and media worlds — that if only Israel did this or that, peace with the Palestinians would be at hand. But since Israel doesn’t, then the Jewish state constitutes the principal, perhaps the only real obstacle to a new day in Israeli-Palestinian relations.

Striking, isn’t it?

Poor Israel. If only it had the visual acuity of these “enlightened” souls, including, most recently, a slim majority of Irish senators, then all would be fine. After all, according to them, Israel holds all the cards, yet refuses to play them.

The thinking goes: Why can’t those shortsighted Israelis figure out what needs to be done — it’s so obvious to us, isn’t it? — so that the conflict can be brought to a screeching halt?

If only Israel reversed its settlements policy. If only Israel understood that Gaza’s tunnel-diggers and kite-flyers are just exercising their right to “peaceful protest.” If only the IDF restrained itself. If only Israel stopped assuming the worst about Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas. If only Israel went the extra mile with President Mahmoud Abbas. If only Israel got beyond its Holocaust trauma. If only Israel ______. Well, go ahead and fill in the blank.

The point is that for the IOI crowd, it essentially all comes down to Israel. And IOI syndrome has only been strengthened by its adherents’ assessment of the current Israeli government, of course.

SnyderTalk Comment:

I have never seen a country act with more restraint than Israel.  In my opinion, Israeli leaders have acted with too much restraint.

Palestinian leaders have been trying to annihilate Israel since the PLO was founded in 1964.  PLO and Hamas leaders have changed over time, but their philosophy hasn’t.  It’s spelled out in black and white in the Palestinian and the Hamas Charters.  Their objective is the total destruction of Israel.

Between Israel’s rebirth in 1948 and the Yom Kippur War in 1973, the Arab nations surrounding Israel had the same philosophy.  Things started to change dramatically following the Yom Kippur War.  Since then, there have been no “wars” between Israel and Arab nations.  Today, they are called “operations” and “intifadas”, and they are between Israel and Palestinians.

With Arab nation states ostensibly sitting on the sidelines, Israel has been portrayed in the global media as the Goliath of the Middle East, and Palestinians have been portrayed as King David facing off with a menacing giant.  That narrative has sold well, and today, so-called “liberal progressives” all over the world repeat it as though it is common knowledge, an established fact.

It’s not a fact.  It’s a lie.

Israel has never been the problem.  The Israeli people have built a thriving economy and an open, democratic society while remaining ready at all times to defend their sovereignty.  Given the numbers of enemies surrounding Israel, the Israeli people couldn’t have succeeded without Yahweh’s Divine protection.  He is why Israel hasn’t been destroyed, and He is why Israel won’t be destroyed.

Yahweh’s protection hasn’t stopped Israel’s enemies from trying to eradicate Israel and “drive the Jews into the sea”.  The Palestinian slogan tells the tale: “From the river to the sea, Palestine must be free.”

The river is the Jordan River.  It’s Israel’s eastern boundary with Jordan.  The sea is the Mediterranean Sea.  It’s Israel’s western boundary.  In other words, “from the river to the sea” means that Israel will not exist.

Israel won’t be destroyed, but eventually there will be a major conflict that will involve Yahweh without disguise.  When He walks on the stage, the play is over.  He will take on Israel’s enemies personally and defeat them in dramatic fashion.

We are perilously close to that day.  Get ready.  It’s coming.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
